Juvenile Northern Saw-Whet Owls

These guys are among my favorite birds. These are juveniles, but they don't actually grow much bigger than this--they're pretty much an owl the size of a pigeon. The first time I held one (at an avian rehab facility, do NOT try to keep them as pets) I was speechless at how tiny and incredibly furious they are.

Some bigger owls have sort of resting majestic faces, but saw-whets are 98% rage with a dash of superbly grumpy thrown in. Like housecats, they are god's perfect killing machine made tiny and adorable. They are so small and so so mad about it.

This is an adult.
