district six, referred to as the morphlings, are drug addicts and love color. at training, they stay at the painting station and paint themselves tons of bright colors. in the arena, the woman tribute flings herself in front of a monkey coming for peeta, and ultimately sacrifices herself for him. as she's dying, katniss is at a loss for words and doesn't know what to do. peeta begins telling her about all the colors he creates and paints with. she looks fascinated, reaches down into her wound for blood, and paints a shape katniss says is a flower on his cheek. peeta responds, "thank you. that looks beautiful." YALL.
besides being heartbreaking asf, i feel like this scene really encapsulates how good of a person peeta is and how he truely just does have a way with words that's so perfect. i know we're already told that throughout both books, but holy reading a prime example of it is crazy.
