Kate had been sat on her break reading her most recent book of choice with a cup of coffee, having already demolished her sandwich when the new voice interrupted her. When she looked up, she made sure to politely smile considering she was still at work and they could potentially be a customer. “Help yourself. I haven’t got long left anyway and then it’s all yours.” Kate was sure she recognised her, she’d seen her with Melina a few times.
A small smile touched her lips at the blonde’s words and she pulled out the chair, sinking into it gratefully. “Thank you,” she replied. When she’d left the house she’d been hoping to just have a quiet sit down in the coffee shop, maybe play on her switch and have a chat with Melina. Then she’d be able to say that she’d tried - she’d left the house - whenever her parents called her next. Instead she was feeling very overwhelmed by the crowd of people. It served her right for coming during the lunch rush. Her eyes scoured the table for a menu, figuring she could at least choose her order while she waited, but she was dismayed to find that there wasn’t one. Her cheeks flushed and her eyes jumped up to the girl beside her. Should she-? But she was busy. Teeth dug into the flush of her bottom lip as she considered her options before she finally said: “Do you- Uh- Do they have menus?”

Sketching nothing special on the notepad in front of her, Olivia’s eyes were drawn upwards to the new addition at the opposite end of the table. She offered a smile and nodded. “Sure! Pull up a chair.” Her foot moved to the leg of the chair in front of her and she pushed it out from under the table a little, to look a bit more inviting. “Though, you might be a while in the queue.” She said, her head gesturing towards the counter on the opposite side of the room. There weren’t too many people there, but more than usual. “Unless you weren’t planning on ordering yet, then you’re golden.” Another smile pulled on the corners of her lips.
Relief flooded through her at the girl’s kind words and Saf dropped into the free chair with a ‘thank you’. Her hands clutched her bag where it now sat in her lap as she glanced across at the long queue for the till. She could wait. Probably. Slowly her eyes slid back to the table, falling on the menu that was stuck between a salt shaker and a pepper shaker. She pulled it out, glancing over the menu with the upmost interest, even though it was no different from a standard menu that you’d find in every other coffee shop in the UK. It passed some time, thankfully, but the queue seemed even longer than before, if that were possible. Eventually her eyes drifted back to the girl who had offered her the seat, and fell on the sketchpad before her. “What are you drawing?” Saf asked curiously, before quickly tagging an “If you don’t mind me asking” on the end.
It wasn’t often that Saf left the house. Although her job couldn’t really be classed as demanding, as such, it often required that she spent a significant amount of time in her room. The result of this? She barely spent any town in the beautiful snowy town that she called her home. On one of her rare days off - updates - she decided to go out and explore. She knew that her housemate Melina worked at Cover to Coffee and a familiar face was always appreciated when surrounded by strangers. Pushing open the doors, she smiled at the little tinkling bell that sounded, before looking inside. It was completely packed. She couldn’t see a spare seat in the house, which was to be expected since she’d come on a Saturday. Fingernails scratched over skin as her eyes darted around nervously, too scared to walk forwards but also too embarrassed to turn around and walk straight back out. But she spotted an empty seat tucked under a table where someone was already sitting. Cheeks flush, she headed towards them. “Can I_ I mean, do you mind if I sit here?”
