Summary:

"You have to be peeved at me for waking you up at this hour. You can’t pretend that you’re not," Susan insisted.

"I would say that I'm annoyed that I have work in 4 hours," he said after glancing at his watch. "But you're my sister." He sounded perplexed by her questioning. "You called me when you needed me to come and get you." There was a hint of hurt in his voice as he asked, "Did you really think I would've just left you there?"

It's 2 am, and Susan was alone in far more ways than one. Smoking and drinking in the other room, her friends laughed as if their jokes carried all the humor in the world.

She didn't remember exactly when she had stopped laughing with them, but now, this place no longer felt right to her. That feeling drove her to stumble towards the phone, feeling her vision swim as she did.

Go home, it was the only clear thought she had. Her thoughts seemed to come and go as easily as the wind, never quite making sense, as her mind tried to wrap around them. She knew she had drank a lot tonight by the way her body craved sleep and how tempting the lumpy couch beside the phone seemed to be. But her gut nagged her not to do that just yet.

With shaky hands, she picked up the handset and reached for the dial when she paused. Calling home meant that one of her parents would have to come get her. She could already imagine their lecture, as they would certainly carry on until it became unbearable. She didn't think her headache could withstand it.

She bit her lip, as she wracked her brain for another option. Staying here didn't feel right to her; she wanted to go home. Her mind supplied only one other option, and the idea of calling her brother dredged up an intense feeling of dread.

Would he actually come if I called?

He had always been there for her all the years prior. Yet that was before, and these last few months were particularly taxing on both of them after years of fighting over Narnia. Her nervousness seemed to pool in her stomach, not helping the nausea that seemed to be creeping in.

With a heavy heart, she spun the dial on the phone to call the Kirke Residency.

I was always confused as to why Edmund says in the Prince Caspian movie, "So you're bravely refusing to fight a swordsman half your age," when Miraz was probably three or four times Peter's age. But then I remembered: Edmund saw Peter live up to his twenties in the Golden Age. If Miraz was at the very least forty-years-old, then chronologically, Edmund's statement makes sense.

Additionally, by the time of the Telmarine Age, everyone and I mean everyone, would know of the Kings and Queens of the Golden Age. They knew they would be in their twenties when they disappeared, but when they returned as preteens/teenagers, of course the Telmarines would underestimate them and forget they are actually much older. Miraz and his men were thinking they were having a war with literal children. But Edmund's sassy statement would've brought Miraz back to reality. Miraz choked up because he remembered who he was really up against. Edmund's words reminded Miraz not to underestimate him and his siblings. "We're actually much older than we look, so if you think you can get away with this, you won't," is basically what Edmund said lol

This also shows how very intelligent and word-savvy Edmund is. No wonder he's the diplomat. No wonder they chose him to deliver the challenge to Miraz.

(Or maybe Edmund just forgot him and his siblings were back in their preteen/teenage bodies, which was why he referred to Peter as only half the age of Miraz. But either way, he clocked Miraz HARD lol)

edmund pevensie learned at the age of ten that his life was worth a war, a sacrifice, and the death of a god.

he spent the rest of said life trying to live up to that.

"Sometimes I think we two had it worst," he confesses. He's never said this aloud - would never dare breathe it to any of the younger set, and to the older two it would feel too much like complaining. Susan understands, though. "With what we returned to and the way we left. Not knowing it was our last time, or that there'd even be a last time, until we were told it was over." "And Caspian?" His sister asks, though it's not a question, really. He stills, instinctively, muscles tensing, breath catching. He's used to having to remind himself to breathe, by now. "And Caspian," he answers. She reaches for his other hand, and when she takes it he clings. Susan holds on just as tightly. "I'm sorry," she says, tries to meet his eyes, but he can't quite manage it, not right now. "It is what it is," he gets out. He feels her careful gaze scan over him. "Whatever it is, it isn't easy." He shakes his head a little, swallows hard. "No," he agrees, "it isn't." Caspian kept his sword and Caspian is dead and Peter has to live here now, and he just doesn't know how. It's not been easy for a long time, not since the first days in that house in the country when all he had to do was look after his siblings and keep spirits up. (Even then, it hadn't been easy.) They stay there a while.

My silliest pet peeve is that every set of the Narnia books are put in chronological order nowadays. When I am very passionate in my belief that LWW is what is supposed to introduce us to the world of Narnia. Not Magician's Nephew. We get introduced to the world alongside the Pevensies, and then learn it's origins later on

nobody ever talks about the witch literally wearing aslan's shorn mane as part of her battle outfit in narnia. but i've been thinking about it for literally 18 years atp

I did not make this realization until I was like.... 16ish and then promptly blocked it out

Iirc Isis Mussenden (the costume designer) made this choice on purpose to show Jadis basically gloating over her victory at that point in the film. The way she used the costume changes to visually signify different points in the character's journey is actually really fascinating. For example she had the idea that Jadis' regular outfit was "melting" throughout the movie, hence why her dress gets darker and her crown gets shorter, to show how her power was waning as Aslan's power was growing. Anyway Isis is brilliant and I love her work (she's now the costume designer on Wheel of Time and her work on that show is also incredible)

imagine you have spent months watching your son and his cousins at each other's throats unable to have a polite conversation with each other to the point that your nephew genuinely has to remove himself from the room to prevent a physical altercation and you have to listen to your son complain about his cousins daily

and then just one day coming home for dinner and suddenly your son is holding onto your nephew's shirt sleeve like it's a life preserver your son and your niece are sitting together in an armchair reading a book your son and his cousins are piled together in bed whispering in a language you don't understand

and your brother and his wife and your other niece and nephew come to visit and you expect your oldest nephew to immediately poke fun at your son and your oldest niece to focus on her sister but then suddenly they're being pulled to sit as close as possible to your son and their siblings and now all five of them are talking in the strange language and your son is looking at his older cousins with wide eyes like he's looking at the king of england himself and you have to just look at your brother and his wife and they look as lost as you
