some facts about me:
For SOME REASON, I enter fandoms when they're either completely dead, falling out of/is out of mainstream, or just really inactive --- inactive meaning there is a lack of fan content and engagement. And when I do enter a popular fandom, I arrive super. duper. late. Like "It's the last season of this show and everyone's crying as if their life source will be cut off so it looks like I missed something" kind of late. Just my luck.
I like children's shows, movies, books, etc. Fight me on this.
(But that doesn't mean I don't like content geared to older audiences. It's the same concept as drinking orange juice and red wine and liking both of their unique tastes.)
I also love to write! It's one of my passions, so don't be surprised when I post a fanfiction, or a really indulgent dissertation about a controversial thing a character did in my favorite movie.
Another one of my passions is art! Visual and performing arts, literature, nature, you name it!
Being a casual fan is NOT A CRIME. How do I know? Because that's me for most of the fandoms I'm in. And it's actually enjoyable as long as nobody attacks you for it. Like, please, I'm just here to relax and enjoy my time...
Finally, don't be surprised when I get a little unhinged. As you can see, I have already rambled. A lot.
If you have read this far: I like you. If you've just skipped to this part because there's no way you're reading all of that: I like you, too. Because everyone is awesome and cool, and I have already said enough about myself. I hope everyone has a great day and God bless ✨️
Rewatching Rebooted and Lloyd's vehicle in that season was a motorcycle, and then rewatching SoG and Lloyd's pulling stunts on a motorcycle while being chased down by a biker cult with Harumi... C'mon guys they'd be a biker couple.
(and this is NOT because I saw a bright green yamaha R15 and a black honda CBR 150R in my Dad's shop this is NOT because of that I totally did not think of llorumi because of a pair of bikes)
to date "In Sons of Garmadon, Harumi was trying to get Lloyd to impregnant her so she could give birth to descendants of Lord Garamadon" remains the most insane fan theory I've seen someone bring up completely unprompted and then defend wholeheartedly
The formation of Sora and Arin's unconventional bond was not influenced by their parents (they were absent from their preteen-teenage years) or society (was being repaired because of the Merge). Our parents and society are usually the ones that shape our perception of relationships, but throughout the most character-molding period of Sora and Arin's lives, the typical molders are not there to guide them into how their relationship --- friendship, for that matter --- is supposed to look like, is supposed to be labeled, supposed to be. They were only guided by their deep love for each other, and their past experiences with love. There was no one telling them what their boundaries should be like, how they should be acting with each other, and what to define their relationship with, so they discovered it on their own. That's how Sora and Arin's friendship is so unique.
The difference between the progress of Lloyd's relationship with Arin and Sora is a very interesting look on how reputation can completely change the way a person is viewed way before one meets them for the first time.
To Sora, the ninja in general, were nothing more than overexaggerated stories told to her by her enthusiastic best friend in the middle of the night. She took those tales with a grain of salt, not really thinking much of it. Ninjago was not a world Sora came from. She didn't grow up with the ninja, they were never part of her life, her story or her culture the way they were of Arin's. So until Lloyd came along, she didn't really have much of her own view of him.
To Sora, Lloyd was a blank slate - someone she based her opinion on purely on what she saw in front of her. And what she saw was someone far from perfect. She saw someone who is incredibly skilled at what he does, but also someone messy, sheepish, self-conscious, a bit of a dumbass, and more often than not just as unsure about things as his own pupils. But also someone kind, gentle and safe. The only adult in her life thus far, who, despite taking the role of a teacher didn't feel overly strict or demanding, who she didn't really feel all that inferior to, who didn't like being called master despite being levels above her...like a friend. A caretaker, an authority figure, but also someone more than that, someone who wasn't too imposing, who made her feel welcomed. Sora, just like Arin had been doubting herself constantly ever since she decided to live in the Monastery. Because of the way she was brought up, she had a habit of basing her value on her skills and usefulness alone. So whenever she felt like she's failing, like she wasn't meeting this invisible standard that she made for herself, she started believing that she wasn't earning her place. On the other hand she saw Lloyd, someone incredibly powerful, regarded and accomplished, someone who by all means should know exactly where he belongs and what he's doing, and yet all she could see, was someone struggling in the exact same way she was. And it felt so reassurring to know she's not the only one who doesn't have quite everything put together yet. That this radiculously important adult is just as much of a loser as the rest of them, that she could connect with him like that, that she could relate to him it that way. I think it really helped Sora believe in herself so much more.
To Arin, the ninja were everything. Strong, brave, untouchable, legendary, everything Arin ever wanted to be. They were role models, an example, and a sense of safety. It's clear that Lloyd was Arin's idol, his hero, way before he was his friend and mentor. Just like many citizens of Ninjago used to watching the ninja from afar, Arin had put Lloyd on a pedeatal. To him, he was a figure close to divine. Similarly, being a ninja was an idealized concept. An illusion of a life full of thrilling adventures with very little peril in-between.
So it was a bit of a shock to Arin to see Lloyd act so painfuly, unbelievably human. During their time together Arin, for the first time experienced the ugly parts of being a hero. He got to see Lloyd fail, he got to see him frustrated and stressed out. He got to see him enter battle with little to no plan, he saw him panic and freeze. He saw him lose sleep over nightmares, visions, nearly suffocated by the amount of work ahead. He got to see him so wrapped up with so many things that he could barely keep up, not only with the world as a whole, but also with his own promises. He saw him stupidly promise even more. In all of that, Arin had to make peace with the fact that Lloyd is not invincible, that he won't always be able to fix every problem, that he might not have time to fullfill all the promises be made, including those be made to Arin. The idealized view of Lloyd shattered and for a moment the illusion was so far removed from what lied beneath that it made Arin feel like he'd been deceived. But deep down Arin knew he wasn't. Not in a way that could make him truly hate Lloyd. Lloyd is a creature raised to roam among the divine while never being divine himself. In a world in which the public expects him to be god, Lloyd feels like he has no choice, but pretend to be one, destroying himself in the process. A creature that loves with his whole heart, and tries to do right by everyone, losing sleep every day so others can sleep soundly. And the more Arin began to understand that, the more willing he was to forgive his mistakes. The moment Arin accepted who Lloyd truly is, he realized that he cares for him more than he could ever care for the faceless idol he used to follow. Lloyd finally felt to Arin like something real, something more than a poster in his childhood bedroom, someone who cares for him and someone he can care for and support on return. And that meant to Arin more than anything he thought he wanted Lloyd to be.
I can't wait for when Arin will pull Sora's parents aside for a one-on-one conversation, and they think this will be a conversation that will benefit them --- their ego, or whatever they planned to do by showing up to the Monastery after everything that has happened --- but then he stands up for Sora, telling them, "Sora's my family, now. I won't let you mistreat her, disown her, and then waltz back into her life just to disrespect her again and ruin her peace. I won't let you do that."
And this all happened unknown to Sora, and the next day she is shocked to find her parents at least trying to be polite to her. Frak, who has overheard Arin's conversation with them, tells her what happened, and when Sora catches Arin alone that evening, she immediately rushes in to hug him. "Thank you, Arin, for standing up to my parents for me," she tells him. "You didn't have to do that."
"Sora, I love you," he tells her confidently. "That's why I did what I did."
I need to see Arin stand up to Sora's parents if/when/even before they disrespect her in season 4 part 2. At the beginning of NDR, it is shown that he is not really straightforward and is somewhat gullible. But he stood up to Ras for Sora in season 3. He can do it again.
This would also strengthen his bond with Sora. Her identity and her self-worth is dependent on her relationship with Arin because he was there for her in everything when her parents couldn't, which was why Sora decided to leave with Arin and Ras --- basically, being without him is just not worth it for her. If Arin doesn't stand up to her parents, Sora would have to deal with them herself, which would worsen the bond they had just repaired in season 3.
I could talk about Harumi with a like minded fellow for hours, because there is so much to talk about with or without including Lloyd. I like Akita, I want her to show up again and I think she’s great but she was only in one season and her arc was pretty self contained. And her and Lloyd didn’t really… flirt, like, ever.
A lot of people forget Harumi is her own character and it shows. The reason why there's so much to talk about is because Harumi is a complex character herself. Without an understanding of her, you can't understand the ship.
So uhhhhh......... you reject life in a fucking sky castle with her. Make choices for her by grabbing her arm and fucking leaping off a cliff.
You two unintentionally get baptized. Which you probably needed. Cause the desire to forget the past and start anew. You try to become clean again. To wash the blood off of her hands as well.
But then she runs away from you and you two get baptized again but this time in mud/quicksand which pulls you under. Because you will never be clean. Because of all the sins you carry with you. Yay.
I'm telling you, us Llorumi's are experts at figurative language at this point. All this time analyzing --- probably overanalyzing --- our ship is making us recognize even the tiniest of symbolisms.
Thinking about how Team Azula all have problems stemming mainly from...
Inadequate attention. Hear me out,
Azula didn't get the loving attention from Ursa that her brother got. But got the cold, distant attention of her father... and she had to work to keep it. She feels insecure when others receive the attention she craves.
Zuko got attention from Ursa until he didn't, then he had Iroh, but yearned for that of his father's. Despite the fact Ozai's was always cruel. Everything Zuko did was in hopes of getting his father's approvals.
Ty Lee felt lost in the crowd of identical sisters and grew to love being the center of attention. To the point where "circus freak" is a compliment to her because at least it's an identity that felt personal to her. At least she stood out for once.
And Mai was expected to sit still and look pretty as to not upset her very emotionally distant parents or get in the way of their reputation. She also got a baby brother nearly a decade and a half after her; who seems to he her parents's current pride and joy. And as a result, she ends up seeking the emotional validation from Zuko and getting upset when that sense of respite is strained or threatened.
I wonder if after Aang was struck by lightning that Katara was haunted by the knowledge that, had Aang and Iroh rescued them 5 minutes later from the crystal catacombs, that she wouldn't have been able to bring Aang back with the Spirit Water, because she originally wanted to use it on Zuko. I wonder if she sat by Aang's bedside for the three weeks he was comatose, thinking about how her want to trust the burned boy that had been hunting and endangering them for MONTHS had almost lead to the Avatar's death, that her want to hope that maybe, just maybe, that boy who was just a teenager like them was still good despite burning Kyoshi village and threatening her own family, her own village, and using her mother's necklace against her. I wonder if when he walked in and looked at her them with his burned face that she had wanted to heal and his golden eyes and asked them to trust him, she thought of what that trust had almost cost.
