The VanEck CEO has stated that there is no chance of a Bitcoin-spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) being launched in the US market any time soon. Jan Van Eck made this announcement at the recent Bitcoin 2023 conference, citing the ongoing legal battle between Grayscale Investments and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as the main reason for his skepticism. Even if Grayscale wins the case, Van Eck believes that the SEC's delaying tactics will prevent a Bitcoin-spot ETF from being launched in the next year and a half. VanEck already launched the VanEck Bitcoin Strategy ETF in 2021, based on Bitcoin futures, but their proposal for a Bitcoin-holding ETF was dismissed by the SEC at the end of the same year.
