hi psa: the second someone apologizes for being excited about something, that is the moment you start talking about it with 10x the enthusiasm because 100% guaranteed they have, at some point in their life, been shamed or told shut up or calm down about something that brought them joy and learned to apologize for taking up space and expressing themselves - learned to make themselves smaller- and that’s the absolute worst feeling in the whole world so please, the moment they apologize or say “I’ll shut up now”, you start talking about it for them, hype it up, encourage them to talk your ear off and participate in their excitement. We want their passion, we want their excitement, joy and love. Things I wish people would stop making jokes about -hearing voices -needing therapy -taking “crazy” pills -asylums and mental hospitals -seeing things/having visions -delusional thinking -mentally ill people in general like just stop
This. Ableism against mentally ill people, especially those with psychosis, delusions, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc., is so so pervasive and so so harmful.

take slow, deep breaths. tell yourself that it is going to be okay
hydrate! especially if you cry during meltdowns, but also in general — drink water/tea/something
again, especially if you cry during meltdowns, have a salt-based snack
take care of your sensory needs. listen to music, use a stim toy, or put on ear defenders
don’t feel pressured to go back and communicate with anyone until you’re absolutely ready to — the last thing you want is to go out before you’re ready and end up having another meltdown
think about a special interest, or engage with a special interest in general
if soft toys are your jam, go give one a tight squeeze
