The Crossing is eerily quiet this afternoon.
{ raven to lyra mormont [private]
Lord Walton,
Your raven was quite unexpected and I do believe that, should you wish to broker peace it should be with King Rickon and not with me.  If you were aware of the plans for the Red Wedding than you should have spoken up.  The bloodshed could have been avoided.  Alas you chose the coward’s way out.  I do hope guilt gnaws at you whenever you remember that you could have spared many lives by preventing the ‘dishonor’ your grandfather brought upon your house. Â
I was not aware that the current Lord Frey took part in the Red Wedding but I assumed as much. Â From my brief encounter with him I gathered that he was not a kind nor honorable person.
There was a time when the alliance between the two were strong but those days have been put aside. Â When promises were broken and guest rights were violated. Â I do hope that your cousin does not spill more blood. Â Already enough has been lost. Â Now is supposed to be a time of peace with the kingdoms newly independent. Â
As you said you are next in line for the Lordship. Â Unless something untimely befalls your cousin I do not see you taking his place anytime soon. Â Even if you did is one Frey truly better than any other? Â Do Freys know so little of honor that they betray their own kin for offer repentance for past actions? Â How would one ever trust someone willing to do such a thing?
Your sympathies are unneeded. Â Had your family not spilled the blood of so many Northmen there would be no need for such apologies. Â
Sincerely,
Lady Lyra Mormont
Lady Mormont,
I wished to do more than I could, but I have three children dear to my heart. With no wife to care for them, I feared that my Lord would condemn us all had I betrayed them. My lady wife took ill with greyscale, passing after the incident. I know loss, Lady Mormont. As much as any parent, one is driven with maternal instinct to protect their own. It is my own regret that I was not of further aid, that weight will forever be mine own to carry.Â
He is neither kind nor merciful, in that thought you are correct. I fear that if pushed, my cousin will cause great peril to the Riverlands and it's allies. I know that King Rickon and my King are amicable, as should be from years before.
I realize your grief is still very much fresh, this I can see. But I am not my cousin nor my grandfather, as much as you are not your cousin Jorah. Mistakes have been make, grave ones. I wish to be sure that they do not happen again. And with the way Lord Walder behaves, I am sure he will be deposed all too soon.
I would kindly remind you that I am not my kin and I wish to extend to you my deepest apologies for the mistakes of this house.
- Lord Walton Frey
{ walton & alysanne
Spending some time at Casterly Rock had already proved to be a good idea for Alysanne. Back at Golden Tooth, she was bored more often than not. While she had the big job of overlooking both the estate and the mine, things had been running smoothly lately and most of the time she felt useless. There were no numbers she needed to observe, no people to meet with, and nothing exciting happening. With news of the annulment to Tyrion and Sansa’s marriage and an invitation from Jaime Lannister, the opportunity presented itself at the most perfect time. Spending the past few days around people she actually enjoyed was a nice change, and it was turning the often cynical Anne into a slightly kinder one.
The King was the one person she planned on spending most of her time here with. Being the king, though, meant he had obligations and there were times where she just had to make due with someone else. The handmaiden Tyrion had provided her with, Beth, was nice enough and already learning to speak up more around Alysanne, but she was still timid and a horrible cyvasse player. She needed to find something else to occupy herself with today, she decided. Next on her list was Jaime Lannister, and, just her lucky, she couldn’t manage to find him. Cersei would be her last resort, but she wasn’t planning on settling for that so quickly. Anne felt like a child, wandering around, trying to find someone to play with her. Actually, when she was young she would do just this. When her father was busy, she’d wander around the castle, talking to all the older men and women and try to convince them to play pretend with her.
Alysanne had made it to the entrance hall and watched as someone entered. The face was incredibly recognizable, and though the two didn’t know each other well, she did know of him. Most of the noble houses were acquainted on some level and considering the Twins wasn’t terribly far from Golden Tooth. With a curious smile, she made her way up to him, catching him before he left the room. “Lord Frey, correct?" she asked, though she knew the answer. His strikingly handsome features set him apart from most, especially the dark hair and bright eyes. “It seems as if the Lannisters are going to be keeping a full house soon enough."
In truth, Walton had never met many Lords and Ladies of the South. As the third son of a lesser Lord, there was hardly any importance for him to meet anyone but those in the North. As the heir apparent to the Crossing, he had steadily grown in importance. His cousin was not one for good words without his lady Serra in tow, so it was he that was sent to broker a peace. He bore no hatred for the Lannister King, who often had his head in books and whores instead of battle. It had not been Tyrion's word that aided the murders of Catelyn and Robb Stark, it had been Tywin, he imagined. As a father, it deeply upset him to know Catelyn's son had been murdered before her own eyes.
Walton smiled as a lithe, blonde woman strode toward him. She was everything someone of Casterly Rock blood would be, golden and radiant. He found himself staring subtly- there weren't many woman of her like in the Riverlands. Once he found her coming closer, his eyes shifted above her and gazed toward the hall. Sliding a hand into a pocket, he offered her a little bow as she spoke. "Walton, if you will. I am no true Lord." Not yet. Once he deposed his cousin, he would be able to claim the Twins as his own. "You must be Lady Lefford. Pleased to be in your presence, m'lady." Reaching out to grasp her hand, he lifted it to his lips as kissed it. All sign of smiles faded, the smallest bout of nervousness grew as his skin touched hers. It was a formality that that been long ingrained, but still one Walton usually left to Walder. Recoiling quickly, he buried the feeling and replied to her jest with a chuckle. "I am a small man, I will take up little room."
{ raven to lyra mormont [private]
My Lady Lyra, betrothed of the King in the North.
I am called Walton Frey, third son of Ser Stevron Frey. I write to you at my own urgency, as I wish to broker the peace between our people. I was not present at the Red Wedding, though I admit as a young man I was aware of certain details. My cousin Black Walder, the current Lord of the Twins, actively participated in the tragedy that took your sister and the family of your King.
It is in my earnest opinion that my grandfather brought shame to our family by making such a rash action. And I believe that my cousin will make even more. There was once a time before the late Lord Walder where the North and the Crossing were once allied. As I am next in line for the Lordship of the Twins and the Crossing, I hope to bring this retribution to your family as well as your soon to be Lord husband's.
My deepest sympathies are with you both and have been, as well as my congratulations on your engagement.
Yours,
Lord Walton Frey

It was a long ride from the Crossing to Casterly Rock, though Walton was well used to horseback. Before the passing of the late Lord Walder, he had been one of the men sent to fill his whims. House Frey had been silent in the way of alliance before the promise of Robb Stark's marriage. After that, it seemed life they couldn't have enough. The Lannisters and the Boltons had been all too willing to aid in the retribution of a broken promise. One that Walton had not participated in. The killing of another was at very least- a last resort. With children of his own, the thought of the Stark loss felt all too close. Had he lost any of them, revenge would come swiftly. Now, his three offspring were well taken care of by his deceased wife's Septa, who had kept with them even after her passing. He knew Steffon would keep his siblings in line, if they ever tried to misbehave. Children would be unpredictable, playful and always ready for adventure.
His duties for Walder were more of a chore, as opposed to any sort of adventure. Another man accompanied him, a cousin of his wife's brother. Young and good with a sword, the Hardyng boy was a good deal older than his own eldest son. As they dismounted, he sent the boy off to stable the horses. Ravens had come ahead of him, to a certain number of the smaller houses among the Lannister land. Black Walder wanted an alliance brokered with the other houses too. The King of the Vale could do as he wished considering House Frey could no longer ally themselves with the North and would likely not accept them freely. Black Walder had freely participated, but Walton had not. He'd snuck away to his children, far from the Red Wedding.
If he ever came in line to be Lord of the Twins, it would be that fact used to bring peace. He would be a much better leader. Climbing up the heavily crowded stairs, he made his way toward the larger keep. Bearing a tunic with the sigil of his house, a slim few chose to make way for him. At the top of the stone steps, he made his wishes known to enter the keep. Surrendering his weapons, he entered the home of the King.Â

Walton Frey • Lord in the Vale • Widower • Unmarried Home Location: The Twins • TAKEN • FC Chosen: Ian Somerhalder
History: Walton was born the third son of Ser Stevron Frey, who was the elderly Lord Walder’s firstborn son and heir apparent to the Twins for the majority of Walt’s life. Through his father, Stevron had learned to place great importance on the family. Stevron, unlike his father, was amiable and reasonable, and as such, a very good father to his children. Stevron had 3 wives over time and had children by all 3. His first gave him Walt’s older half-brother, Ryman, before she passed away of the wasting sickness. Stevron’s second wife gave him Walt’s older half-brother, Aegon, and older half-sister, Maegelle, before the wife died of a fall from a horse. Then came Walt, whose own mother died giving birth to him. Even when Walt was young, Ryman was already a portly man of great appetites, prone to gluttony, drunkenness and whoring. His intelligence was small and his greed was large; despite Ryman being third-in-line as heir of the Twins, he received no such grooming nor etiquette, and Walt found him rather irritating to be around. On the other hand, Aegon was a half-wit and also of low intelligence, though for entirely other reasons, and so the man became the Twins’ fool, known as Jinglebell for the fool’s crown with bells that he wore. Maegelle died after marrying and giving birth to her third child. For his part, Walt was married off as a young squire, no more than 13, when his half-siblings had been comparatively older. His wife had been Deana Hardyng, of one of the branches of House Hardyng of the Vale. They had three children together: Steffon “the Sweet," “Fair" Walda, and Bryan. Even after this, Walt has retained his youthful appearance, even though Black Walder has given him a few stray gray hairs, as when Walt heard his cousin had bedded his daughter.
Though Walt did participate in the Red Wedding, he did so minimally, and at a distance, raiding the camp followers as he was goaded on by his relatives. So while his hands aren’t full of blood, they aren’t necessarily spotless, either; like Freys tend to do, Walt took the middle ground, the one that benefitted him most. And so he did not die at the hands of wolves but neither did he die at the hands of lions, and so he lived. Unfortunately, his lady wife did not live, though for entirely other reasons. She contracted the adult form of greyscale, which is quite quick and quite deadly, and there was little Walt could do for her but send her a maester and listen to her cries, but he could not even comfort her by touch. They gave her the gift of mercy before she turned to stone, and that was how Walt became a widower. During this time, Walt’s brother Ser Ryman held Edmure Tully hostage in the siege of Riverrun. Every day Ryman threatened to hang Edmure; every day Riverrun did not submit; every day Edmure was taken down alive. For his inability to do a siege properly, when Ser Jaime Lannister arrived, he commanded Ryman to leave the camp at once. On Ryman’s way back to the Twins, he and the 15 men making up his escort were captured and hanged near Fairmarket… though no one is quite sure by whom. Some suspected the Brotherhood Without Banners, and others, like Walt’s cousin Edwyn, suspected Black Walder had a hand in it. It seemed all the more likely when Edwyn, too, passed away shortly after the ancient Lord of the Crossing did, enabling Black Walder to inherit the Twins by the quickest of successions. Walt has never had a desire to be Lord of the Crossing before, but he is fearful of what Black Walder will do to their people as Lord, and now Walt himself is heir apparent. Walt already sees the way Black Walder neglects his new lady wife, Serra, and is slowly considering trying to turn Black Walder’s game on himself. If it was possible, surely Walt would make a better lord—and a better husband to Serra—though it means descending to Black Walder’s level.
Personality: Walt lives in a world of facts and concrete needs. He takes in life in the present moment, with his eye constantly scanning his personal environment to make sure that everything is running smoothly and systematically. He have such a clear vision of the way that things should be that he feels naturally inclined to become the leader at the Crossing. Black Walder is hardly interested in training his new heir, however, and so the two men spend only some time together, while Black Walder shoves most of the actual business responsibilities off on Walt. Walt doesn’t mind too much; he is well-suited to the task, and is extremely talented at devising systems and plans for action. He can sometimes be very demanding and critical, because he has such strongly held beliefs, and he is likely to express himself plainly if one of his underlings isn’t living up to his expectations. Walt is self-confident and a touch egotistical, inasmuch as he views himself the best candidate for the Lordship over his cousin. He is loathe to debade himself by becoming a kinslayer as Black Walder has, but he sees little other choice in the matter. Besides, he feels that Lady Serra deserves better in life than the marriage she was arranged to. In general, Walt is an energetic individual who enjoys interacting with people and likes to have fun. He can be very boisterous and fun at social events, especially activities which are focused on his family, his House, or ‘his’ people.
