“A trap?”

Galinda bites her bottom lip. She’s still wearing makeup, so some of her red lipstick gets smudged on her front teeth. Usually Galinda would freak out, but even Galinda Arduenna Upland realizes there’s probably more important things to worry about.

“Infected with what? We- we have to find her a nurse then, right?”

Galinda finally turns around to face Elphaba.

“What’s going on?”

“She’s obviously been bitten already.”

Taking the blonde’s arm in a tight grip, Elphaba pulls her away from the trapped woman. She almost can’t believe how innocent and foolish Glinda is acting! As if a nurse could really reverse the effects of a zombie bite. If that’s the case, then there wouldn’t be so many zombies running amok and causing destruction.

“Have you not been paying attention to the undead wandering around outside?! We have to get away from here before more arrive.”

“Well. It makes it all personnel and stuff, when you’re looking him in the eye. And when you’re looking down at him in the eye because you’re tall and standing, then it’s less personable and more scary.”

Glinda smiles at Elphaba as she bends down. She bends over and kisses the tip of Elphaba’s nose.

“See? More personable, less scary.”

At the mention of Fiyero’s death, Glinda lowers her gaze.

“We don’t know that he’s dead for certain. And it… It isn’t your fault if he is, probably.”

The lanky, green woman sighs, folding her arms across her chest. Perhaps she does look rather intimidating when she’s towering above someone. That might have been how her classmates felt about her at Shiz University.

“I suppose. You’ve always been better at this, my Sweet.”

Elphaba offers her a soft smile, pressing a light kiss to Glinda’s lips, before her smile falls. She looks away, unable to meet the blonde’s eyes, as she continues.

“Glinda... I’ve searched everywhere and used all of the Resistance’s contacts. There’s been no news about Fiyero. We... We have to accept the facts. He’s gone.”

Zombie Apocalypse Starters: "Don't touch it. It could be trapped."

Galinda stops her hand mid-air, and it lingers there for a while. She doesn’t look back at the all-too-familiar voice of her roommate (ex-roommate?) behind her. In some ways, it’s comforting to hear a familiar voice amidst all this chaos, but just because most of her other, non-green peers aren’t talking to her doesn’t mean she wants to be associated with Elphaba.

‘Aren’t talking to her’ is a… Unique way to put it. She’s been hiding in her and Elphaba’s room ever since a man from her biology class chased her across the campus growling and tried to force his way into room 22. She finally came out a few days after the bumping stopped only to find herself seemingly alone on campus with a puddle of blood outside her door.

“I know she’s trapped. That’s why I’m going to untrap her.”

The trapped woman looks almost entirely normal, except for her black, bloody eyes and the fact that she’s snapping her jaw inches away from Galinda’s hand. She was trapped underneath a fallen tree branch, and she was still wearing her uniform from school.

“She needs help. Can you help me take the branch off? Or- or can you get someone to help? Where is everyone?”

“No, I mean it’s probably a trap.”

Rolling her eyes, Elphaba couldn’t help but sigh in disbelief at her blonde ex-roommate’s reaction. Doesn’t she have more common sense? Their world has become survival of the fittest, and it would be stupid of her to try and save a woman who appears aggressive and infected.

“She very well could have been infected already. You should watch out for yourself before trying to take care of others.”

The green woman scoffs, her arms folded across her chest.

“No, it isn’t. If it was being delivered to all of Oz, you would have a bunch of speech writers telling you what to say and it would be a lot easier.”

Glinda has given speeches to all of Oz (at least, the citizens of the Emerald City). The rest of Oz--minus the Resistance and most of Quadling County--often found other ways to find what Their Goodliness said. She likes when people write her speeches for her, but she likes it when she’s not talking about how awfulified The Wicked Witch of the West is.

“Be open. Make sure to crouch down so you’re on his level,” Glinda looks up at Elphaba. “Be patient.”

“How does crouching down to be at eye level change anything? If you didn’t want to listen to what I had to say, then it wouldn’t matter if I was bent down or standing up, would it?”

Elphaba sighs as she practices, lowering herself so that she’s at eye level with Glinda, who’s sitting on the sofa.

“He already made it very clear that he hated me. You heard him. He thinks it’s my fault that Fiyero... that Fiyero died.”

The green woman points out, still skeptical. It isn’t that she doesn’t believe Glinda’s suggestions are well-meant, but she has a hard time believing that they’ll work on Liir.

“You’re a /perfect/ match for someone as ladylike as me.”

Glinda smiles and kisses Elphaba’s cheek again. She does try her best to hop alongside Elphaba, but mostly she just enjoys Elphaba’s support.

“So… Should we rehearse what you’re going to say to Liir? Don’t think you’re going to charm your way out of it by calling me ladylike and saying we’re a good match. But you can keep complimenting me and our relationship if you want.”

“You think I should rehearse what to say to Liir? It isn’t going to be a speech delivered to all of Oz.”

Elphaba chuckles at Glinda’s reaction to her compliment. It wasn’t her intention to compliment her way out of their conversation. They finally make it down the hall and to the study, where she helps her girlfriend to a sofa in the corner.

“Fine. How do you think I should approach him?”

“Time? Time is good. We can just have a little time, if you’d like.”

Glinda smiles gently and nods. It’s progress, at least, and she finds her heart soar with pride for how much Elphaba is willing to try and grow for her. She extends her arms so Elphaba can help pull her up.

“Thank you. You’re quite gentleman-like, you know.”

Elphaba chuckles at her girlfriend’s comment. There have been many rumors circulating Oz, suggesting ridiculous things--that the Wicked Witch had three eyes, that the Wicked Witch turned people into toads, and that the Wicked Witch was both a woman and a man simultaneously.

“A good match for someone as lady-like as you?”

With a soft smile on her lips, she nods at Glinda and helps her to the study so that she can take some time to cool off before approaching Liir again.

if a younger nessarose was called dreamy, then the eminence was pensive. she drifted in and out, over and over. occasionally, an ear tilted towards elphaba and the witch was heard. otherwise, there was too much going on within; nessa’s mind was much too cluttered, perhaps, for when she spoke her words were lazed and faraway, ` agree to disagree, dear. `

          eyes roamed around, then. the bend of disappearing land, the flowers in her garden, anything green. and she did so with that cloud inside her head and an ellipse of light outside —— in the sunset’s light, she appeared as a messenger of god! alas, she surpassed the rank of angel and fallen somewhere between goddess and devil — and she intended to play the part.

          ` he thinks whatever. we no longer associate ourselves with wizardry, see. if it’s opinions you want, ask our people. `

“I already know what the opinions of the Ozian fools are regarding this matter. I’d rather hear yours.”

Elphaba couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the thought of the foolish masses that seemed to gobble up every lie coming out of the Wizard’s mouth. She prayed to no deity in particular that Nessa also shared her sentiments about the Animal Banns.

“The truth is... I’ve come to ask for your support, Nessa.”

From Hell to Oz

Oh boy! Sweet treats! Lee eats up the fruits first, tail wagging giddily. Then the fish, which leaves the ever so pleasant scent of overcooked fish lingering in the air. That was a weird meat that Lee’s never had before… It was pretty tasty, if excessively damp. “Wuff!” The beast looks happy!

By the time Elphaba has finished preparing a meal for herself and the Monkeys, the hell hound has already devoured all the food she had laid out for him. At least, Lee seems not to be very picky when it comes to his diet! She jumps, somewhat startled by the loud clap of thunder. She had never liked storms.

"It’s a good thing we ran into each other, huh, Lee?”

The green woman offers the canine a soft smile before turning her attention to the plate in front of her. She better finish eating quickly so that she can work on that antidote that one of the Monkeys needed.

Tell you about it sometime. But yeah, let’s head back. 

Larry offered a quick grin in return. Like his old friend Edgeworth, winning a rare smile from Elphaba was a treasured moment in Larry’s book, and he promised that he’d remember that smile for ages to come. Tightening his squeeze on her hand, Larry closed his eyes and felt himself hurtle through space and time. As long as Elphaba was by his side, he shouldn’t have anything to fear!

(I hope you’re happy, Elphaba…I hope this is what you wanted.)

Once they’ve landed, Larry opened his eyes and took in the snowy L.A. streets. Safe and sound, thanks to the witch’s magic!

C’mon, let’s join Fiyero and Hero for dessert! Heh heh! There’s no place like home!

Dramatic touch, huh? Heh heh! Very fitting. Wrong musical, though.

Larry chuckled, knowing full well that Elphaba probably wouldn’t understand the reference. He’d have to play her a few soundtracks sometime: maybe after Christmas dinner, he and Fiyero and Elphaba could have a jam session together.

Hey, that’s what friends are for, right? You got to see Glinda, get out for the night, dance a little…good times.

They might make an unlikely pair, but they worked well together. Smiling, Larry linked his arm with Elphaba’s and braced himself for the teleportation spell.

“Wrong musical?”

As Larry had no doubt expected, Elphaba didn’t catch his musical theater reference. She shook her head, and with a slight smile on her face, returned to the Grimmerie.

“Let’s get out of here before the guards catch up.”

Clasping the orange idiot’s hand in hers, she began to chant to words on the page as the world around them seemed to melt away. Away from Oz and back to Los Angeles, California they go!

“And do you think your father was right? I mean, he was awful, right? You’re certainly not your father. And if your father wasn’t so awfulified, you and him would have a betterified relationship. Right? So maybe you’re--”

Glinda cuts herself off when she realizes that saying that Elphaba is Frexspar might be more than a little bit insensitive.

“Maybe you have to be the one to reach out to Liir. He’ll warm up to you eventually, I’m sure of it. I did, remember?”

“I... I suppose I could try again in a little while. I need some time first, and I think he does too.”

Her eyes softened as she stared at Glinda and her beautiful features. They had such different childhoods that it was difficult to relate sometimes, but she does appreciate the blonde’s help and advice. After all, Elphaba knew less about happy households than Glinda did.

“Come on, I’ll help you up.”

The Grimm–right–oof!!

There was barely enough time to react before the pair darted off into the skies. Larry kept his mouth closed firmly shut this time so that he wouldn’t get airsick all over Elphaba’s beautiful ball gown; enchanted or no, no girl needed to be covered with “leftovers!” It seemed to Larry that once they reached the outskirts of town, they could get off the damn broom and head home. However, it was a few more minutes of skimming over the pointed rooftops before finally coming to a stop on the cobblestone path. Larry was only too thankful to come into contact with solid ground again.

Oh yeah, I’m ready. Are you?

Shakily, Larry put a hand on her shoulder and gave Elphaba a small smile.

It’s good that you got to say goodbye to Glinda. Happy Lurlinemas, Elphaba.

Elphaba took the mask off her face and let it fall to the ground. Let the Gale Force find it, and use it as evidence for the Wicked Witch’s second death.

“Yeah... I’m ready. Happy Lurlinemas, Larry.”

She set the Grimmerie onto a stone ledge and began to flip through the pages, searching for that teleportation incantation. After a moment, the green woman looked up from the book and, resting her finger on the page to keep her place, turned to her friend.

“I don’t think I’ve said this before, but... thank you for helping me.”

Without Larry, she probably wouldn’t have been able to sneak into the castle, not to mention, it was Larry who had found Glinda in the first place tonight.

From Hell to Oz

With his love for meat and nearly wolf like nature, it wouldn’t be unnatural to assume carnivore, but in reality Lee’s just a bit closer to Omnivore with his taste for flammable objects such as dry grass and paper. He’s also developed a taste for dried fruits and candy as an occasional snack. 

Lee follows the pair into the kitchen, tail wagging happily. When told to ‘hold on’ Lee does his best to follow the order and sits down. He sniffs at the air a bit, hoping to smell something tasty.

Several of the other winged Monkeys have gathered and joined Chistery, and some of them stare at their new guest while others greet him with an ooh! Elphaba goes to fetch a fish from the well in addition to a basket of dried fruit.

“Here, Lee.”

The green woman sets Lee’s food on the ground and goes to prepare her own meal and the Monkeys’ meals. She occasionally glances behind her to make sure the hell hound is willing to eat the foods she had brought out.

You don’t have to tell me twice! Waaauuuugh!

His eyes squeezed tightly shut: so tight that he could see flashes and flares of strange colors in the blackness of the absence of vision. The noise of the crowd crescendo-ed into a frenzy of cries, crashes, and cacophony at the sudden appearance of the Wicked Witch. Larry held onto Elphaba’s slender waist and hoped that she wouldn’t execute any crazy aerial maneuvers while he was a passenger!

Uh…

Now would be the time to open his eyes. Larry quickly scanned the palace behind him; while people flooded the streets to catch a glimpse, no one could possibly catch up to them.

We’re all good. Can’t follow us!

Larry’s reaction reminded her of the first time she had flown with Glinda, who was just as nervous as the orange idiot and flailed around more. Sadly, it seemed she would never be able to fly again with her old friend.

“Good. We have to get the Grimmerie, quick!”

With that, Elphaba tilted the broomstick downward, flying a bit lower and making their way out to the city outskirts. She took a quick glance behind her--Larry was right--try as they might, there was no way the Gale Force were going to catch them! After several more minutes of flying, she landed by the abandoned building at which they had started their journey today and pulled the black text out of the hiding spot.

“Are you ready to go?”

The green woman asked her companion though the question could have been directed at herself as well.

I-I was using a figure of speech! I don’t know how much time–

Larry ducked quickly, barely avoiding a polearm poised to slice off his head; no, he would like to keep that attached to his shoulders, thanks! Just like out of a movie, Elphaba’s broom knocked the soldiers away like a bowling ball making a strike; if they weren’t in so much danger, Larry would have laughed until his sides ached! But for now, all his attention is focused on hopping on that magical broomstick. 

Coming!

He followed Elphaba, straddling the broom and holding onto her waist tightly. His face is almost buried in her thick curls, which he didn’t mind at all; however, he could easily pick out the shimmering silver ballgown in the crowd, towards the back of the room onstage. Glinda was there, watching, and it seemed as though there was an amused smile on the Good Witch’s face.

At least, Elphaba’s eyes landed on the one woman she wanted to see one last time before refocusing in front of her. She held the wooden handle in a tight grip and rushed forward.

“Hold on tight, Larry...!”

The Wicked Witch weaved in and out, expertly maneuvering through and around the startled Ozian crowd. Around her, the citizens started screaming and shouting that the Witch had returned. Luck was on their side--she saw that the front gates were still open! Elphaba didn’t waste any time escaping from the Palace and taking the two higher into the sky.

“Do you see them behind us?”
