Algae could prove to be a powerful biofuel.

So I have no idea if this will be a good energy source, but the research could help to revolutionize ocean-farming. Growing more seaweed in particular could be a huge win for a recent scientific discovery:

Experiments in sheep showed that if dried Asparagopsis taxiformis seaweed made up just 2 percent of total feed, methane emissions drop by 70 percent. (x)

That’s a huge drop in methane emissions! And this is very significant since:

About 14.5 percent of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions come from livestock. That is more than global car and airplane traffic emissions combined.

So gaining more “land” to farm in, as well as massively improving the carbon footprint of livestock farming - this could be really good news.

p.s. forgot to mention that another benefit is that ocean farming pulls CO2 out of the ocean, just as plants pull co2 from the air. This would be really beneficial since the oceans are acidifying bc of the excess co2. and unlike growing corn for biofuel, this wouldn’t use valuable farmland, but some of earth’s 71% surface area which is covered by water. .
