Ah, I see...
Holden smiled complacently, knowing better than to argue with her. “I’m not doubting your skills, Daria.” He shrugged. “Of course, we can’t know such a thing, since your father runs and will continue to run the kingdom with his heart.”
"We don't need him to change the way he rules to know such a thing. History had been written before, and that is how it has happened with a vast majority of rulers. They make enemies."

Ah, I see...
"Sometimes. He doesn’t quite know when to separate the mind from the heart. It’s served him well in the past, but it has also caused more trouble than it’s sometimes worth."
"I think I ought to take that as a compliment, as thus far in my twenty two years of life I've become one of the most successful healers within the Realm and currently run the infirmary within the Keep. I think my father has done a wonderful job. Besides, if he ignored his heart, he would chose risks that earn far more enemies."
Healing Hands || Daria && Ashlynn
Daria assured her that it wouldn’t happen but Ash couldn’t be so sure. She wasn’t sure of much of anything these days. “Maybe you’re right, sister. Still….” Ash hesitated and sucked in a deep breath as she thought. “Would it sound strange if I said I wasn’t afraid of it happening? Not really. I’d be more afraid of it happening to someone I loved. Like you or Darius, Hector. Any of the family. I’m far more terrified for any of you to be hurt or killed than I am to be in the same situations.” She knew it might have seemed like just her age, after all the young always tended to feel invincible and less phased by the thoughts of their own death. But it wasn’t that. Ashlynn just had such a strong desire to protect all those she cared about that, as long as their safety was the end result, she didn’t much care how it was achieved.
"Could we meet somewhere? Wherever you think is best, I’ll go, even if you decide that ultimately means meeting here, but I’d just like to keep this," She nodded down at her shoulder, "As secret as possible." She had yet to tell Daria why exactly. "Attached it? Daria, that’s brilliant. Not that it was a hassle before but this seems so much easier." She smiled at the thought and moved so she could follow her sister. Her smile fell, though, when Daria mentioned explaining how she got the injury. "I might need more than one drink if you want the story." She muttered under her breath.
"I don't find it weird. I would gladly switch places with any of you if the gods allowed it. It is simply the love we possess for one another. Some consider it reckless, for wishing to place yourself in harms way, even if it is to save your loved one, but I consider it brave and selfless." Perhaps they were unaware, or maybe it was just silently acknowledged, but Daria would do anything it took to protect her family. Whether it be giving up everything, including her own life, or taking those who posed a threat. She wouldn't hesitate. Besides, it was better to do it and ask for forgiveness later.
"Of course. You know where some of Hayden's gang used to reside? Its the rougher part of the Keep of course, but I can give you an emblem. A pin to put on your blouse or robes. You won't be bothered then. I've gone and helped them, or sent people to help and we've come to develop a rather... mutual understanding with one another." Daria wouldn't turn them in if they kept their mouths shut about her personal coming and goings or returned the favor here and there. "Even if someone sees you going, they wouldn't dare follow." It was true enough, they'd probably even be targeted by thieves. "I'm not sure I would call it brilliant. I ended up buying a few of the houses. Expanded the infirmary a bit in case something like this happened. To many people and not enough space would be a problem. Added housing for those who work for me.. it makes it all easier." There were still plenty of things to do, she just hadn't gotten around to it. Pushing open a door, she held it open for her sister. "So, would you like to start that story of yours, or shall I intoxicate you first?"

Healing Hands || Daria && Ashlynn
Ash nodded at the words her sister spoke, knowing full well that they were true. This was the reason that Ashlynn would never trust too-syrupy or adamantly sweet words out of Daria’s mouth. She would fear what was truly going on, knowing that something must be grievously amiss. “I think I’ll keep that in mind, just in case I’m ever badly injured.” Ash prayed to the gods she never was but one never did know what the future held in store.
Daria worked quickly and Ash had to admit, she was a bit in awe of her sister. Ashlynn could never do what Daria did, never tend the sick, the wounded, the dying. It would make her mental. She eyed the sling and made a face, but she knew better than to protest so she said nothing. Not a word. That is until Daria explained her reasoning for her little trick. “Well than I guess I’m glad for your small deceit,” Ash shot her sister a tiny smile, “As for coming to see you every day, that shouldn’t be too hard. I just….” Ashlynn sighed and clicked her tongue against her teeth. “I’ll have to be careful to not be seen by too many people. I’d rather not have everyone knowing I’ve dislocated my shoulder.” More to the point she didn’t want to have to lie to too many people. She didn’t want to tell everyone that Hamish had pushed her. “A drink would be a gift from the gods, Daria. Please.”
Her brow furrowed slightly as she eyed her sister. The words had been disturbing, causing an odd feeling to brew inside. Certainly, she'd been sweet to those before whom were closer to passing, if only to make their last moments pleasant. But the thought of having to do so to any of her family was almost crippling. If it ever came to that, she would be torn between tending to them herself, in fear she was the only one with enough skill, or shoving it on someone else because if she failed, she would hate herself. "It won't come to that dear."
"I hardly call it deceit sister." She replied, lips finally twitching upwards as well. "If it causes you that many problems to come see me, then I will come to you from time to time. I ought to be out and about in the city more often anyways. We can meet up somewhere I know people keep their mouths shut." Once she was satisfied with the sling, Daria moved about setting things away and informing the others that she would be absent for a time. "Good, follow me. I don't know if I wrote you about it, but like Darius has done, I've finally attached the infirmary to the house so we can take the back way... and once we've gotten our drink you can tell me all about how you got that injury."
Of Old Pain (Daria/Paxton)
He shrugged impartially, thinking little of her authority; bored with the forced loneliness of the infirmary; entertained with her scorn and seriousness—”…Bondage? Oh madame you speak of my favorite sins. Do continue.”
His gaze and words were careless, meandering, lax: she was there, and she glared down at him—he smiled up at her; playful fire that danced in his eyes, lipped at his tongue. It sway and twirl around, beneath her cold contempt.
Daria stared at him for a few moments before releasing his wrist, though none to gently. "You men are all the same. Minds are always in the wrong places I swear." Giving a huff, she shook her head and returned to the shelves, only to return when she'd gathered the things she needed.
Pulling a chair up along side his cot, her eyes flickered up to look at him once more. Resting her wrist against her knee, she rolled it until her palm faced upward. "I've scolded you on it nearly a hundred times now. You're only going to make it worse. Now if you would so kindly let me check on it to see if you've gone and popped any of those stitches I gave you.. and before you tell me no, I very well can incapacitate you for the next few hours if you prefer." This time, she wiggled her fingers up and down, indicating she was waiting.
Ah, I see...
"You sound like your father, Daria."
"Is sounding like my father a bad thing?"

Of Old Pain (Daria/Paxton)
The lingering sense of pain was like the returning touch of an old lover—they run their finger along your spine, make circles on your arm, trace the lines of your palm, soothing you with a violent nostalgia.
At times, laying there in the infirmary bed, he purposely pushed his left hand against bandage that laid over the long gash which ran the length of his right forearm, wincing at the touch yet finding an odd enjoyment, a dull pleasure, in it.
The long days—the long days turned into decades, the long decades turned to centuries, and all of time eventually seeming to lose coherence—when he was chained to that rock high in the mountains; the circling circling eagle that would rip through his skin and tear at his liver. He screamed but eventually he laughed, still screaming with pain, yet laughing between the gasps. The pain, the chains that bound him to the rock and the bird that was Zeus’s, the eagle, was meant to be his punishment, yet it became a gift—or else a reminder of his victory. It was a victory none would know until the future, far far from now, unfolded and revealed the horrible and destructive truth that was man’s salvation and pantheonic immolation.
He pushed against his bandage, smiling as he winced—like an arrogant child—as the nurse came up to him with a reproachful look, she undoubtably noticed how he enjoyed the pain, hampering the healing process which she had administered, making her act of charity seem meaningless.
He smiled like an arrogant child, apathetic to how he irritates others.
The newest patient occupying one of the cots in her infirmary had been a bit of a shock. When he'd first arrived, she dusted everyone else off, ordering them away and telling them she would care for him herself. A Balor was not trust worthy, and by not means was she going to assume him harmless simply because of the injury.
He was an infuriating patient as well. She'd given a strict set of instructions. Ones he'd made a point to ignore by pressing his fingers into the bandage. At first the blood had bloomed onto the white fabric, and she'd scolded him. Now the bleeding had stopped, and he was simply aggravating it. Huffing as she approached him once again, she gave a pointed look.
Snatching onto his good wrist, she pushed it away. "Do not make me tie that hand of yours to the bed post, because I will if that is what it takes."
"Do you ever long for an adventure, like I do?" Phyllis asked, sighing, looking out in the distance. For a moment there, she wandered was Dione really fully stripped off her memories. Guess she was. It pained Phoebe to see her sister completely ignorant to who Phoebe really was.
Daria sighed, momentarily forgetting she was speaking with a woman she wasn't certain she would be able to trust. "Don't we all long for such a thing? Perhaps not one that takes me far from these walls but, even within them, one always wishes to be apart of some excitement."
Ah, I see...
"Love has no place in my life, Daria. Desire and love have done nothing good for this kingdom. I merely hope we care just enough about each other to avoid premature deaths." He nodded, finally smiling. "Of course."
"Love has a place in everyones life. You simply haven't felt it toward another just yet, thus you've only seen the bad side of it, not the good." Her nose crinkled, knowing that it was possible for each of them, even if now it seemed to be a bad time. "Then don't fret to much."
