30 Uncommon Character Development Questions: 4. Do they have any verbal tics? Do they have trouble pronouncing certain words or getting their thoughts across clearly?
//I’m sorry that I kept you waiting!
Nirwa certainly has some verbal ticks - he tends to gesticulate when he’s trying to explain a more complicated matter. He has also a tendency to accent words that he finds the most important in the phrases he says. He has a habit of hiding his opinions and feelings behind beautiful words and courtesy.
As for now, I can’t think of a word that might be hard for him to pronounce but that’s a very interesting question and I will think about it. There are probably many words he can’t pronounce in languages he’s not very familiar with.
Nirwa is generally a good negotiator and conversation partner but he tends to have a problem with getting his thoughts across. This usually happens in two instances - first, when there are big differences between him and his conversation partner. He might run out of arguments to convince them that his point of view is a correct one (usually, here’s when he feels flustered with his lack of eloquence and uses the ring to reveal the other person’s intentions to him so he could take advantage of them in the conversation).
The second instance is when Nirwa is trying to talk about his emotions and specify his life goals. It has a lot to do with the ring’s influence on him - the less number of positive emotions the wraith feels, the easier to control their mind. But aside from the ring’s control, it’s also caused by Nirwa’s suspicious, closed nature. He’s quick to chat about simple matters but not the one to easily reveal anything about his private life. Also, let’s not forget that he is a Nazgul for a very long period of time. He forgot many feelings, customs and ideas common for living creatures - like feeling of hunger, sleeping and sleeping schedules, concept of a family (he understands it only on a basic level), feeling of falling in love and so on.
Since we are on the topic of Nirwa’s lack of knowledge about mortals’ life, it’s worth mentioning that after Nirwa gets to know someone to the point he starts to trust them and treat them as his ally, he won’t hold back from asking questions about the technical side of their everyday life. Those are sometimes ridiculous questions. Nirwa can change a very simple matter into a complicated conversation about customs. Let’s take a scarf for an example. Typical chain of questions that Nirwa asks would be: “Is there a pattern people tie their scarfs with?” “Does a scarf serve only practical purposes or does it also serve decorative purposes?” “Is there any symbolic meaning associated with the scarf’s color?”

//In my drawings, I never use the Nazgul cloak design from LOTR movies. I simply think they look a bit unpractical (especially that hood) and also I prefer to go with a simpler cloak design.

The RP hiatus continues...
Firstly, I’m sorry for not responding to threads for so long. The truth is that I feel insecure and don’t feel competent enough to roleplay a character from Tolkien’s world. I just feel that what I write is not enough. That being said, I decided to put roleplay on hiatus for now and kind of return to the roots of this blog.
This account will temporarily become a place for my drawings, drabbles, character-related discussion, roblogged stuff etc. I will also talk about my other AUs for Nirwa, especially modern verse. Ask box, as always, is open and I will gladly answer any questions Nirwa-related or not. :) I will also lurk around tumblr sending memes.
Again, I apologize to my roleplay partners for delay in my replay. Love you all!

Another drabble inspired by a prompts list that I found. This time it’s about modern Nirwa and his boyfriend. Beware- contains ridiculous amounts of fluff (because we all need fluff from time to time).
I really like to draw Ascot (modern Nirwa).
A handful of modern AU headcanons:
- During summer and spring he has to use sunscreen when he goes out to avoid sunburn. It’s also necessary for him to wear sunglasses regardless of the time of the year. He carries them with himself all the time in his bag (they are correcting glasses and sunglasses combined into one- I don’t know how to explain it in English but it’s a very helpful thing)
- His sight problems are caused by albinism - his eyes aren’t naturally protected from the damage that can be caused by sun. That’s why it’s important for him to wear sunglasses.
- He always has slight shadows under his eyes. It’s not because of lack of sleep. It’s just a trait of his. Some people have those all the time no matter how long they sleep and rest.
- He likes coffee which makes him one of my few characters that like this drink.

First drabble. I wrote it some time ago, based on the prompts list posted on alloftheprompts. It’s a really amazing and inspiring blog!
Please enjoy!
I was having this fascinating conversation with lemasque31 about Melkor and what his vision of Arda would be, his aim, and suddently a thought popped up, and I felt like it would be a good thing to complete it and share it with you guys. Because I can be serious sometimes.
Melkor is chaos, the origin of Evil, the embodiment of Evil.
But what is his goal in the first place ? It is said he wanted to rule over Arda, he called himself the Master of the fates of Arda, though Melkor is not stupid, and he perfectly knew Eru was the only real master, as long as his blessing was upon Arda. If he wanted to rule, Melkor had to get rid of this blessing, in order to have a complete free-will, not only for himself, but for Arda. Also, maybe he wanted to prove that he and Arda can exist without Eru’s intervetion.
And that’s when this thought appeared : He wants to annihilate Eru’s will, to free Arda from Eru.
I like to think that Melkor knew what would happen if he stole the Silmarils. He knew Fëanor would go after him and leave Valinor.
And when you think about it, he told the Noldor that the Valar were imprisoning them in Valinor. And perhaps Melkor himself believed in these words. He was convinced that the Eldar were his kin’s ‘servants’. We can imagine, besides the canon facts, that he really wanted to free them from Valinor. Not because he cared about them, but to prove that all the Children – not only the ones who stayed in Middle Earth - could live without the control of Manwë and through him, Eru.
ofc, if Eru’s will is annihilated, his own will would rule instead.
So he made up his plan. First part of the plan : talking to the Noldor, telling them that they are the Valar’s slaves. → Many of them begin to believe his words, now he must give them the push to actually do something. Second part of the plan : destroying the lamps. Since the light comes from Eru, he take Eru’s blessing from Aman, and somehow, prove that Arda can live without Eru’s power. Third part of the plan → Stealing the Silmarils because he knew Fëanor wouldn’t need more than this to leave Valinor, run after him and free his people. Was the murder of Finwë a part of this plan? Possibly, but it could also be a terrible accident. Finwë was there, Melkor had to get rid of any person that would be between him and his goal. In any case, it helped Melkor’s plan.
The Noldor leave Valinor, Fëanor and his sons officially reject the Ainur, now they have to survive without any kind of blessing, and they join the elves who didn’t leave Middle Earth. Melkor’s plan is achieved (Partly achieved at least, since they swore in Eru’s name… )
They are free from the Valar, and through them from Eru, and Melkor can now take this mighty race under his own will. Or at least he will try.
He wants to take Eru’s place by becoming the one who would rule over the Children, in a land free from Iluvatar’s will.
Another thing, concerning the jewels! As long as Melkor keep the Silmarils, he thinks he’s the one who will rule in Eru’s place, the only one who possesses light. They are the proof he is his own master who lives and acts independently of Iluvatar’s powers. If he is his own master, then he can become the only master of the all other beings, and in the case of the Noldorin race, not only the master but also the liberator.
He only hopes it was not a part of Eru’s plans.
(I could go further and say that, maybe, Melkor thought he would be a better better master than Eru, because he was convinced that he knew Arda better than Eru did. Maybe he didn’t see his own actions as evil, but as the right thing to do to free Arda. But I’m propably going a bit too far with this.)
Hi! I don't know if someone asked this before but.. in which book does Tolkien say that Sauron's former maiar name was Mairon? Because I've already incorporated it into my vocabulary but I haven't found it anywhere for sure (not even in a middle earth dictionary)
It’s actually not in any of the book. The name “Mairon was only mentioned once, and in probably the most obscure location (which is why you didn’t find it, and I never would have without some google-fu) - a note on one of the essays published in the journal Parma Eldalamberon:
But this was altered after he was suborned by Melkor. But he continued to call himself Mairon the Admirable, or Tar-mairon ‘King Excellent’, until after Númenor’s downfall.
The specific reference is as follows:
J.R.R. Tolkien, “Words, Phrases and Passages in Various Tongues in The Lord of the Rings”, in Parma Eldalamberon 17 (edited by Christopher Gilson), p. 183.
THAT IS A VERY GOOD REFERENCE BUT CAN WE ALL JUST TAKE A MOMENT TO APPRECIATE THE SHEER, MAJESTIC CHUTZPAH OF THE NAME “KING EXCELLENT”
