We liberals/democrats believe ourselves to be smarter and more enlightened than republicans/conservatives. Yet we refuse to compromise at all, and we expect republicans to just magically understand and conform to our ideas. How the hell can we expect people that haven't been educated the same way and raised in the same culture we have to think the same way we do? We've become this uncompromising elitist group of babies that just shouts at the top of our lungs about what's wrong with the country, but instead of trying to fix it, we rather sit here and claim that we're right and everyone else is wrong. Bothers the shit out of me.Â
And because we're so arrogant, condescending and uncompromising, we force the republicans to become even worse! We reply with "But it's their fault, they don't compromise either!" Well yea, but look at their leaders and their base. you can't expect them to behave like logical, reasonable people when they never have. It's not neccesarily an insult, it's just how they are. It's our duty to be the bigger people and to drag the conversation to the middle. If we want to be called progressives, we have to do what's needed to make progress, which means we have to be willing to compromise first.
