Normalize blaming riko moriyama for everything.

You feel insecure? Riko's fault.

You're broke? Riko's fault.

You got hurt? Riko's fault.

Guys I know this is a major hot take. But Riko Moriyama genuinely is not as complex or interesting as people like to make it out to be. I’ve seen a ton of people come online and go “Oh, I don’t like excuse his behavior but he’s just such a complex character!!” Or I hear that, “Riko isn’t a bad person, it’s just that growing up in the mafia and the best made him that way!!” I fully agree that his father’s lack of care and attention for him paired with the vicious nature of the Nest definitely contributed to his horrible actions. However, it’s not really explored how it affected him or the specifics of his childhood. What we know and understand about his relationship with Kevin is also severely lacking in context. Much of the fandom clings onto complexity that just is not there, and uses it as fuel to look past Riko’s actions and baby him. This man literally orchestrated the prolonged sexual abuse of one of his own teammates, the sexual abuse of their opposing team’s goaltender TWICE, broke his closest partner’s hand, and murdered a person on the other team. That is literally just the beginning of what this man did. Riko’s backstory is honestly lacking in an explanation for his cruel behavior. I don’t think many people realize that he is just as bad as Drake or Proust. Putting a hit on someone makes you equally as terrible as the murderer.

Fandom speculation is fun. It’s okay to want to explore a character and put them in a different light. But let’s not make Riko out to be something he isn’t.

Fucking thank you. Everytime I speak about my hatred for Riko, I have some rat hurrying to tell me "but he's so complex!! He can't help the way he was raised" sybau. Defending a character such as himself with little to zero context as to why he even turned out the way he did is insane.

People are so desperate to shine light on villain origin stories but end up completely excusing their horrible actions. Some villains aren't born but Riko was literally BORN to be a horrible person.

If Riko is your favorite character, my one question is.. Why? Because there is nothing in aftg that could influence you to feel any other emotion for him other than straight up hatred.

And ofc I had some rat tell me I should "let people like villains" Riko isn't just a villain. He has no goal, no motivator, no reason behind his actions other than to control and fulfill his sick desire to see others suffer in pain.

We have NOTHING on why he became the way he did, and yes we can chalk it up to him being in the mafia, but that's literally it. Neil was in the mafia too, I don't see him treating people the same way Riko does? He is a sick human being and if people genuinely like Riko beyond just "oh he's well written" then I'm just gonna assume you condone his actions. There is nothing about him that can cause you to feel even the slightest bit of pity or empathy for him.
