Dutch resistance members celebrate at the moment they heard of Adolf Hitler’s death over the radio, May 1945
this will one day be us
guys i’m so sorry to say this but exercising and indulging in hobbies rather than scrolling on your phone for 200 hours actually does improve your mood and overall mental health, this has deeply upset me more than anyone
One of the fundamental flaws in radical feminism is the idea that men must be fully excluded from discussions about gender and sex related rights.
Decentering men? That’s expected. That’s often a good thing. However, coming from the default assumption that all men are a danger cuts you off from allies and narrows your scope of focus away from ways that the patriarchy harms people of all genders.
Feminism can’t be torn down and started from scratch. Our knowledge of the world and feminist theory exists because of the people who came before us. We can’t find some pure ideology completely divorced from the ideas that came before us.
Radical feminism also often completely ignores how race and economic status plays into oppression.
Why should a poor black woman feel more solidarity with a white billionaire woman than a poor black man? Why should an indigenous woman side with a woman who claims ownership over her ancestral lands over the men in her community fighting to regain access to those lands? Why should a cis intersex woman with XY chromosomes side with women who claim that a Y chromosome makes people violent?
There’s a lot of conversations that can and should be had about how socialization in early childhood shapes us, but socialization differs from culture to culture and family to family and how each individual person reacts to the exact same situation can be radically different.
Modern intersectional feminism is about nuance. Radical feminism is about ignoring all of that nuance for a simpler narrative that tries to smooth over all of the opinions of people whose life experience doesn’t align with theirs.
If person socialized as man=bad and woman=oppressed then the world feels simple. The enemy is well defined and all personal questions of morality and self doubt can be brought back to that one supposed truth. It’s the same comfort that people find in any other oversimplified ideology. If nuance is glossed over, the mind is free. All doubts can be crushed by going back to the one supposedly unchangeable truth that the ideology is based on.
The world though, unfortunately, is never that simple. Nonviolent men willing to unlearn their biases exist. Parents who raise their sons well exist. Intersex people exist. Trans people exist. Women who abuse their power over men and boys exist. Race, class, nationality, disability, politics, and sexuality exist. And all of those things make the simplicity of radfem ideology just, so stupid. I’m sorry, but it’s overly simplistic and stupid.
The idiots in power want us to be divided. If you dismiss half of the human population as potential allies, that’s a pretty big division. That makes it easier for them to conquer us. The enemy is the patriarchy. The enemy is authoritarianism and racism and all of the other isms and phobias that keep us down. The enemy is not inherently people born with different genitals than you.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again but it is absolutely an example of civilizational inadequacy that only deaf people know ASL
“oh we shouldn’t teach children this language, it will only come in handy if they [checks notes] ever have to talk in a situation where it’s noisy or they need to be quiet”
My mom learned it because she figured she’ll go deaf when she gets old
My family went holiday SCUBA diving once, and a couple of Deaf guys were in the group. I was really little and I spent most of the briefing overcome with the realization that while the rest of us were going to have regulators in our mouths and be underwater fairly soon, they were going to be able to do all the same stuff and keep talking.
The only reason some form of sign language is not a standard skill is ableism, as far as I can tell.
For anyone interested in learning, Bill Vicars has full lessons of ASL on youtube that were used in my college level classes.
https://www.youtube.com/user/billvicars
and here’s the link to the website he puts in his videos:
https://www.lifeprint.com/
Update: you guys this is an amazing resource for learning asl. Bill Vicars is an incredible teacher. His videos are of him teaching a student in a classroom, using the learned vocabulary to have conversations.
Not only is the conversation format immersive and helpful for learning the grammar, but the students make common mistakes which he corrects, mistakes I wouldn’t have otherwise know I was making.
He also emphasizes learning ASL in the way it’s actually used by the Deaf community and not the rigid structure that some ASL teachers impose in their classrooms
His lesson plans include learning about the Deaf community, which is an important aspect of learning ASL. Knowing how to communicate in ASL without the knowledge of the culture behind it leaves out a lot of nuances and explanations for the way ASL is.
Lastly, his lessons are just a lot of fun to watch. He is patient, entertaining, and funny. This good natured enthusiasm is contagious and learning feels like a privilege and not a chore
And it’s all FREE. Seriously. If you’ve ever wanted to learn ASL
