reading and favorites are for my fic readingâ ď¸
sharing is for talking about me, personally, and my life, not that you should care but oversharing is a hobby
babbling is for thoughts and ranting
â ď¸ althought this miss is lovely, shes also quite the unscrupulous, shameless minx, and while I tend to only repost what I genuinely like and think I'll wish to reread in the future, at some point you might come across heavy dead dove themes, so please be warned
prompt sharing
sometimes i have ideas, you might want to write one of them
this morning i was listening to cal smith's version of i've found someone of my own and who who popped into my mind? yes, the 30-second man brendon park
something where Brendon and Reader dated in the past and were head over heels for each other. anyone who saw them knew theyâd end up married with the perfect life. but at some point they realize that they wouldn't be really happy together (something about different views on what meant to have a good life) and decide to break up. neither of them wanted it but they know they would end up resenting and hating each other and life would be unbearable if they stayed together.
the breakup is hard, but over time both heal in their own way. they don't see each other again until the day the Reader shows up at the ER with her husband and sons (who had been playing in a old ass treehouse that collapsed, resulting in a few broken bones) and Brendon is called down
no reconnection, no getting back together, they're both happy(or at least pretty content) with their current life but theres definitely uneasy feelings and a loooooooot of bittersweet angst
this song is actually great for any mutual breakup situation, especially when theyre happy in a new relationship but still have feelings for each other, despite knowing they aren't right for one another
yesterday I came across the song great white shark by johnny hollow and immediately thought of our very own park the shark
I can't think of anything specific right now but maybe something with dom/sub dynamics, secret relationship, power imbalance, toxic relationship between brendon and obsessed!resident!reader? idk
just writing this down so I don't forget about it later
theres maybe a little age gap, doctor x unwilling!patient?, unrequited feelings, secret crush
Reader whoâŚ
âŚis one of the few women on the Pittsburgh SWAT team in which Jack volunteers
âŚis known for having a thick skin, a hot (and hard) head, and quite the death wish, often (even if unintentionally) risking herself to ensure the success of operations and the safety of the team
...feels she constantly needs to prove her worth and secure her position on the team even though she already is a well respected officer
...has had a crush on Jack for a while but hides her feelings and pretends not to like him, fearing both judgment and rejection, so her solution is to keep her distance and treat him as professionally as possible
...risks her life to protect Jack during an operation and pretends sheâs fine afterward because she's afraid of letting him touch her
âŚends up in the ER a few days later due to a poorly treated gunshot wound only to find herself being treated by...
Jack who...
...is pissed off because he doesn't understand why Reader (who always seemed to dislike him) would risk herself for him, only to refuse his help and end up in his ER with injuries he could have treated
...decides itâs time to set things right between them
or, where Jack finds himself more worried than he thinks he should be and is willing to keep Reader in the ER until he they have a proper talk
age gap, parent x teacher!one-time-stripper, grumpy x sunshine? i guess
Maekar Targaryen who...
...is a widower and father of six
...is balancing grief, raising his children, and working in a high-level position at his family company
...has not been in any relationships since his wife's death, apart from meaningless one-night stands
...has been far more impatient and harsh lately, worrying his older brother Baelor and prompting him to drag Maekar to a private nightclub after a particularly difficult week
...hides into a private booth wanting to be left alone just to be interrupted by a rookie stripper whom he believes was paid by Baelor
...finds her lack of dancing skills quite amusing (since his brother had said he would get him "the best"), but lets her do what she was paid for just to get Baelor out of his way (or at least that is what he tells himself)
...just gives her some money after they're done and leaves without saying anything else, thinking he will never see her again (even though he quite enjoyed it)
X
Reader who...
...is a young woman (mid/late 20s), single, and a recent graduate
...is a recent hire (a year or so) at this highly prestigious and traditional school (where the Targaryens children attend)
...is tired of being belittled by other faculty members (most of whom are elderly maesters and septas) and having her work constantly questioned (despite having been top of her class and graduating with honors)
...is also feeling drained by the lack of a social life and feels like she is missing out
...despite everything, refuses to be intimidated into resigning (as happened to young teachers before her) and continues to use "unconventional" (aka non archaic) methods to teach the children
...is Aegon's (Egg) favorite teacher and well liked by most of the younger students (whom are known for hating all the other teachers)
...knows that most of the students come from very wealthy family but isn't intimidated by it (an also doesn't really care)
...is invited to her best friend's birthday/bachelorette party at a private nightclub e goes wanting to feel like herself again
âŚat one point gets separated from her group and ends up in a booth where a white-haired man is alone looking miserable (despite being quite handsome)
...pretends to be his stripper just because she wants to feel young and reckless again
...by the end of the night, is relieved that she will never see that man again (despite having enjoyed herself)
or, where Maekar is called to the school because of something Egg did, and it's Reader who has to talk to him
â ď¸
please note that these ARE NOT fanfics themselves, but merely ideas I decided to share in the hopes of finding someone who can write them properly, since I lack the talent to do so myself
đ the rules
YES, you can write it if you like any of them
YES, you can write it exactly as i imagined, but also
YES, you can change any and everything you want
NO, you are not required to credit me (although Iâd ââappreciate it if you did or just tagged me in the post), i really just want to read it
PLEASE, LET ME KNOW WHEN/IF YOU POST IT; my dms and requests are open so just send me the link (i really just want to read it). also feel free to contact me if you have any question regarding any of the prompts or anything else, i'll be glad to help with anythin i can
if you're a writer looking for something to write about, I might have something for you here
but first, read this (it's important!)
â the whys
although I find myself constantly blessed with a mind fertile enough to entertain itself, I was not given the gift of committing my daydreams into words in a way that pleases anyone other than myself
meaning: sometimes I have some great fic ideas (or so i convince myself) that I can't really do anything with since I lack the writing skills
thatâs why I thought that tossing my ideas in the open could be a great(and faster) way to see them turn into something more than just a daydream while also helping writers who are looking for suggestions and requests
Summary: Part 2 of Wrong Name ft. an accidental proposal
Pairing: Jack Abbot x reader
Word Count: 2.8k
Warning: None! Just super cute!
Authorâs note: And I present a part 2 I honestly never thought I would write! Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who left likes reblogs and comments they all mean that absolute world to me I love hearing about your favorite parts it absolutely makes my day and I hope you like this part too!
Check out part one here!
He thought he had learned to stop being so surprised to see you just show up at the hospital.
It was always with an excuse, dropping off food for the staff, meeting him after a shift to walk home, giving him something he had forgot at home, but he thinks you actually just like being around, and the rest of the doctors of the Pitt certainly felt the same way. He was pretty sure they just texted you, asking you to come when they needed you, and you never hesitated to follow through.
It was nice to have someone outside of the Pitt. It was something he learned early on with you. Nice to have someone with what felt like objective eyes on the good and the bad, who could give perspective from a point of view other than a medical professional. And somehow, youâve become that person for the people in the ED still too new to have that network yet.
So maybe he shouldnât have been surprised to see you sitting on a bench across from the hospital, drinking a beer from a familiar looking cooler, surrounded by familiar looking young doctors.
âHave my med students kidnapped youâ a part of him relished the way everyone in the group but you jumped a little at his voice, their immediate reaction to try and hide the beer as if they had been caught doing something wrong.
All except you who grinned up at him from the bench, tilting your neck back eagerly to give him a quick kiss in greeting with a hum of approval. âKidnap? Please, I think I could take themâ
Melâs head tilted slightly to the side as if trying to figure out whether you were joking or not while Javadiâs eyes go wide and bounce rapidly between the two of you still trying to figure out if she was somehow going to get in trouble for this.
It was Whitaker who pipped up to fill the silence âWell Santos knows Krav Magaâ
You looked at the intern with a raised brow, watching as she tried to bite down and hide her proud smirk behind her can. âThatâs okay sheâd be on my sideâ
âDamn right I wouldâ she responded immediately, clinking her can against yours in a toast as you chuckled.
âWell now that your white knight is here what do you say we head homeâ he cut in putting a hand on your shoulder and giving it a soft squeeze.
âAnd that kiddies is my cueâ You gave a dramatic groan as you stood up, raising your can in front of you to address them âto my favorite doctors in all of PTMC who work under Dr. Abbotâ you gave a pause for dramatic effect âwho I am incredibly proud of and did amazing work todayâ
Javadi gave a snort at that âyou werenât even here to verify thatâ
âOh those werenât my wordsâ you assured her quickly âthose came directly from Jackâ
âNow hold onâ he tired to interject but you steamrolled ahead.
âGoes on constantly about how proud he is of you guysâ
âWait a secondâ
âHow you are the best residents heâs ever hadâ
âI certainly didn-â
âAnd that youâre all getting raisesâ
Jack tried to swallow back the chuckle that ruminated in his chest âAnd with that we are leavingâ
You chuckled fondly at him, Jack beyond powerless to do anything but smile softly back at you.
âAlright I will see you allâŚprobably fairly soon youâre kinda stuck with me nowâ
Mel pipped up just as you started to retreat âweâre still on for Friday right?â
âYesâ You responded eagerly, making your way over to Jack and not hesitating to take his hand in yours, giving the fingers a reassuring squeeze âyour sisterâs okay with it right?â
âOf course she is she likes youâ Mel rolled her eyes like it was obvious only making your grin widen.
âGood I like her too. But I wanted to check. You canât just crash a King sister tradition without checkingâ Pulling softly on his arm you started to lead Jack away from the benches, still calling out back behind you âtext me if she doesnât want me to come, no hurt feelings got it?â
Mel gave you a thumbs up in response, you just about to finally turn around and leave with Jack before Whitaker called out again.
âGoodbye Mrs.A-â
âWhittaker you finish that sentence Iâll sic Santos on youâ
And finally, finally Jack had you all to himself. A comfortable silence falling over the two of you as you started to make the familiar trek home.
âYouâve met Kingâs sister?â
âYou havenât?â
And all Jack could do was laugh because of course you have. Of course you knew all about how she spent her time outside of work. Of course you had gotten yourself invited to their family tradition.
But still his mind was stuck on one particular part of that conversation. Unable to stop himself from asking even as he felt he shouldnât. âHave you ever thought about it? Being Mrs. Abbotâ
âOf courseâ you answered so quickly, so thoughtlessly, as if those two words hadnât made his heart stutter in his chest âthatâs why its written in pink glitter pen on every page of my diaryâ
And maybe you noticed the way his smile didnât fully reach his eyes, or the way his laugh didnât live in his chest as it normally did, but something made you pause before giving a more honest answer.
âYeah Iâve thought about itâ
He let the answer hang for a bit, let you enjoy yourself watching him squirm before he spoke âand?â
Like he knew you would you grinned back at him. Giving your interlocked hands a little swing âand I think I could go either wayâ
âReally?â he asked with a raised brow âyou have no opinions?â
You shrugged in response âI think Iâve decided my priority is you.â
And truthfully he didnât know what to say to that. In all the ways he had envisioned this conversation going, all the possible answers you could have given that was not one he had prepared for.
âI like what we have goingâ you shrugged, giving his hand a soft squeeze âweâre good. I like the idea of making it official, I donât need it thoughâ And finally you looked up at him, a soft smile on your lips, nothing short of complete devotion in your eyes âat the end of the day Iâm going to spend my life with you Jack Abbot and thereâs nothing you can do about itâ
That finally pulled a real laugh out of him, the kind that rumbled deep in his chest, as he forced the two of you to stop, an action you didnât seem at all surprised by.
He brought his palm up to cup your cheek, fingers threading lazily though the hair behind your ear as he rubbed softly back and forth on your skin, taking a moment to truly look at you, appreciate the beauty of the person he was so unfathomably lucky to call his. âYou promise?â
âFor you my dearest Jack Rabbitâ you declared with a grin, going up onto your toes until your nose touched his, finishing on a whisper âI vow itâ
-
âYou know you two arenât being subtleâ Jack hadnât even bothered to look up as he said it, had in fact spent the better part of the day avoiding their gaze as much as possible.
âWell I wasnât going for subtle. Dana?â Robby stated matter-of-factly, glancing over at his charge nurse as he said it.
âI was going for overtâ she shrugged.
And Jack knew exactly what their expressions would before he looked up, could guess the mixture of barely contained mirth and disappointment that would paint their features without needing to confirm.
âWell if you could keep your overt stares to yourselves that would be greatâ
âWhat is it Jackie-boy is it the ring?â Dana ignored him, leaning forward onto her forearms from across from him, bending down and seeking his gaze just as he usually did with people âI told you the ringâs perfect. It matches all of the stuff she already has wellâ
âNo itâs not the ringâ Jack cut her off with an annoyed look, keeping his head pointed down at the charting he had abandoned long ago ânow if you excuse me some of us have a job to doâ
âWell if not the ring then what?â Robby jumped in, mirroring Danaâs stance as he did so, the two doing their best to present a unified front, a fact that almost had Jack chuckling despite himself âYou know when I told you she was too good for you I was mostly jokingâ
With a dramatic sigh Jack finally straightened and looked at the two across the desk from him, resigning himself to the fact that there was no escaping this conversation for much longer âno itâs not-â
âDr. Abbotâ Mel King his saving grace appeared next to him effectively catching the attention of all three of them, Jack more than happy to distract himself with whatever case she needed him on than withstand anymore grilling from his two so-called friends.
âYes Dr. Kingâ
âI just wanted to ask if-â and he spoke too soon.
âNoâ Jack effectively cut off the line of questioning, turning back to his chart physically putting an end to the conversation
âBut I just think that-â Mel tried again
âNoâ
âHave you considered-â
âStill noâ
âDr. Abbotâ Robby finally cut in, raising a brow at his friend as he put on his best teacher voice that only succeeded in pulling an eye roll from Jack âIâm not sure if youâre aware but this is a teaching hospitalâ
âIt sure isâ Jack responded in a similar tone âand teaching is exactly the thing I would love to be able to do today but thanks to some of us who have decided to be nosey and âovertââ he pointedly glared at the two of them âthe rest of the staff have gotten it in their heads that they should get to be there when I proposeâ
And though he hoped that would be enough to get everyone back to work Jack was never that lucky, Robby immediately jumping in with âso it is for sure a when not an if thenâ.
Jack only glared at his friend, pointedly ignoring the shit-eating grin he wore as he stared unflinchingly back, Mel deciding this was the perfect opportunity to plead her case again âI just think that when it happens I-â
âOkay everyone listen upâ Jack cut her off with a loud clap of his hands, effectively pulling the attention of anyone in the center of the ED.
âDr. Abbotâ Dana tried to call his attention, but he steamrolled ahead.
âIâm only going to say this onceâ
âJackâ Dana tried again as Jack once again pointedly ignored her.
âIt will be done in private, just the two of us, at a time when I feel it is right alright?â He challenged the ED with a raised brow, his audience, despite his words, looking almost giddy before him.
âSweetheartâ Dana again tried to cut him off but Jack was too deep into his speech now.
âI appreciate your help with the ring and everything you all have done for the two of us but you need to stop pushingâ
At this Dana had no more to say, little more than a deep sigh coming from the nurse as she crossed her arms over her chest and leaned back against the counter behind her.
âWhen I propose it will be on my own terms got it?â
The ED went silent around him, his students eyes wide as they did little more than stare up at him with rapt attention confusing Jack slightly.
âWhen you whatâ
Jack froze. He knew that voice. He knew that voice all too well. And even if he didnât one look at the shit-eating grin on Robbyâs face was more than enough to confirm it.
Jack spun in place quicker than his feet could really keep up to see you standing just a few feet behind him, frozen in place staring back at him with a wide-eyed gaze making Jack curse under his breath.
For the longest time no one said anything, the two of you frozen before one another as Jackâs head desperately reached for absolutely anything to say, finally settling on a defeated âwhat are you doing hereâ
âWhen you propose?â And God help him the way your lips twitched up at the corners as you said it made him nearly melt on the spot, Jack unable to fight the smile from growing on his lips in response as he took a few steps closer to you until he was almost chest to chest.
âOkay fine yes, whenâ he conceded with a soft chuckle, stooping his head slightly to fully meet your gaze as he drove his next point home âwhich is not this momentâ
âBut itâs going to happen?â Your question came back quick, your smile quickly growing to a full on grin that Jack wanted to be exasperated at. It wouldâve been so much easier to shut down this conversation if he could remain stoic but the unbridled glee in your eyes had his resolve crumbling.
âIn the future yes but I cannot stress this enough, not right nowâ
âYes I say yes, or I will say yesâ you eagerly grabbed at his forearms as the words all but spilled out of you. Jack helpless against the warmth that radiated within his chest at the action, his hands reaching forward to grab your face between them as a laugh threatened to bubble out of him.
âI am not proposing right nowâ
You all but ignored him, pulling his hands off your face but keeping them captured in your own as you continued on âhave you already bought a ring? Can I see it?â
You were like a dog after a treat, oh so eager to barrel on ahead despite everything and Jack was finding it much too hard to be mad about it âI donât have it on me because I refused to get engaged in the Pitt while Iâm in scrubsâ
And finally you seemed to properly take in the scene around you, the florescent lights ahead, the beep of machines all around you, the much too eager eyes of his coworkers who watched the scene before them unfold with rapt attention. âAlright fineâ
Jack nearly sagged in relief at that, glad you were finally seeing things from his point of view before you cut him off again.
âBut can I see it when we get home?â
A shocked laugh spilled out of the man as he shook his head, raking an exasperated hand over the lower half of his face âwill you let me do it properly? Get on one knee, recite a speech Iâll pretend I didnât spend hours writing. The whole nine yardsâ Never in his life did he think he would have to beg his fiancĂŠ to let him properly propose.
You pretended to think it over, the grin on your face telling him you were getting entirely too much enjoyment out of torturing him like this âCan we do dinner first? My favorite restaurant?â
He rolled his eyes at your response, unable to fight the fond smile from his lips as he did so âthis isnât a negotiationâ
But you only stared up at him through your lashes, bottom lip pinned between your teeth, and Jack was putty in your hands, throwing out the last resemblance of a plan he had with a sigh âwe have reservations this weekendâ
He barely got the words out before you were wrapping your arms around his neck and pushing your lips up against his, Jack grinning happily into the kiss as he pulled you by the waist deeper into him, finding that he didnât much mind this part of this catastrophe of a proposal.
But like usual the ED chimed in at the perfect time, an abrupt cheer from his friends around him pulling the two of you apart as you were swarmed by his med students, the kids eagerly pulling you into their own set of congratulatory hugs.
But with a grin like that on your face Jack still found he couldnât be too mad about it.
A hand clapping his shoulder pulled Jackâs attention away from the excited conversation happening between you and his students, Robby sliding up next to him with a smug smile on his face âYou know Iâm honored youâd want me here today to witness-â
âShut the fuck upâ Jack cut him off sharply but with a chuckle, not hesitating to pull him into a hug, Robby whispering into his friends shoulder âIâm happy for you brotherâ
Summary: Reader visits her partner Jack in the ED to drop off his lunch catching the excited attention of all of his colleges much to his chagrin
Pairing: Jack Abbot x Reader
Word Count: 2k
Warnings: None! Just super cute fluff
Authorâs Note: My first Pitt Fic! Basically, a short simple grumpy x sunshine reader cause I had the idea. Everyone in the Pitt loves the reader and Jack pretends to hate that, but everyone knows better. Again my first Pitt fic so any and all feedback appreciated and I hope you enjoy!
Check out part 2 here!
To say Jack was surprised to see you at Danaâs desk was an understatement.
He had just left you a little over an hour ago, a silent kiss to your temple, a murmured I love you into your hair, a cup of coffee left in his wake on the countertop so it was cooled down by the time you got up, the same as every day. You were still asleep when he left could you have woken up with something? Did he miss something last night?
His head was so full of the hypothetical he didnât take the extra second to acknowledge how at ease your body language was as you leaned against the tall desk, a soft smile on your lips as you nodded along to whatever Dana was saying.
Instead, he immediately crossed the ED in a few steps, sliding a hand to the small of your back to grab your attention, cutting of Danaâs story without a second thought.
âHey whatâre you doing here are you okay?â
Your eyes flickered briefly to his, the corners of your mouth pulling up slightly at his appearance as you grabbed his bicep and gave it a small squeeze. âYeah donât worry Iâm fineâ before immediately refocusing on Dana, silently signaling her to continue.
Dana, however, as she normally does, knew better, a look shared between the two women as she stayed silent and instead focused on Jack, the man himself having not moved his gaze from your form for a second.
Pinching your shirt at the waist softly he gave it a small tug, physically pulling your attention back to him as his eyes scanned your face âis it that headache you had the other night? Is it back? I can bump you up the CT lineâ
âHoneyâ you cut him off with that small laugh that always had his chest warming âI promise Iâm fine I texted you like an hour ago to meet me in the parking lot, you just forgot your lunchâ
He could physically feel the relief hit his system at your words, his shoulders dropping as he finally took a deep breath, his next words tumbling off his tongue before he could put any thought to them âyou didnât have to-â
But just as he knew you would, you cut him off with a shrug and the same words you always used when he tried to dodge being taken care off âI know but I wanted toâ
He couldnât have fought the fond smile off his face if he had tried, something he knew he was going to get shit over from Dana and inevitably Robby later. âWhy didnât anyone tell me you were here have you been waiting long?â
âNo Iâve been talking to Danaâ And it was so entirely you the way you stated it like it was obvious. As if this little act of kindness in going out of your way to get him food hadnât hijacked your entire morning. He was nearly overwhelmed by the desire to pull you into him, barely registering the way you pivoted back to Dana at the mention of her name.
âA conversation we absolutely will be finishingâ spoken like a threat that had the charge nurse chuckling, âdrinks later? Location and time TBD?â
âSounds good kidâ
And maybe it was a little selfish of him to want you just to himself in that moment, to pull you out of the Pitt to get even just two minutes of you alone. But Jack had found over the past year that he liked being selfish when it came to you âOh and Langdon was looking for you earlier if you havenât seen him yetâ
âYou spoke to Langdon tooâ heâll admit to only faking part of the exasperation in his tone that had you giggling.
âHeâs got a new puppyâ you protested with a grin âwhat was I supposed to do? Not ask to see photosâ
âYouâre right ridiculous questionâ he conceded easily, ânow arenât you supposed to be at workâ
And Jack relished the way he knew what your exact reaction would be seconds before you made it, the way your eyes widened almost comically before you reached for his arm, pulling his watch specifically into your line of sight, Jack using the momentum to press a quick kiss to your temple before he could think any better of it.
âShit Iâm gonna be lateâ You groaned softly, Jack chuckling at the action.
âI mean it, you didnât have to bring my lunch in todayâ
âPlease we both know you wouldnât eat anything if I hadnâtâ you brushed him off thoughtlessly before brightening and exclaiming âoh before I forgetâ. Suddenly you were pulling back from him, reaching deeply into your bag and rummaging slightly before pulling out a fistful of protein bars âgive these to Dennisâ
âTo Dennisâ he repeated with a raised brow as you pushed them into his chest.
âYeah Dennis, well except for the chocolate onesâ
âYou want me to give these to my med studentâ he repeated with another exasperated sigh.
Again you responded exactly like he hoped you would, a giggle and a teasing push against his chest âyes except for the chocolate ones he doesnât like those he likes the fruit ones. He wonât tell you that though, heâll gladly take them all but heâs just being nice about it because he doesnât want to offend youâ
He couldnât help but appreciate how well you seemed to fit into his life. How youâd forged relationships with each member of the Pittâs team that existed wholly outside of him. It was tough now to believe there existed a time when he had been hesitant to introduce you to the chaos of the Pitt given how you now had seemed to adopt each member of his chosen family on your own.
His train of thought was effectively cut off as he watched your gaze suddenly deviate from him to something behind him, the corner of your mouth ticking up as you took one of the bars back from his grasp and yelled across the room âDennisâ
The poor kid looked terrified for a brief moment as he spun around before breaking out into a relieved grin once his eyes landed on you.
That was all the acknowledgement you needed before you were throwing the bar at him, Whittaker to his credit only looking panicked for a brief moment before he was effortlessly catching the bar, grinning down at his new snack appreciatively once he had it âThank you Mrs. Abbotâ
âNot my nameâ you corrected breezily with a wave âbut bug Jack if you want more Iâm giving him the restâ
âGreat now if youâre done upsetting the natural order of my ED donât you have work to get toâ Jack cut in with fake exasperation.
âNatural order of the Pittâ you scoffed âthatâs an oxymoron if Iâve ever heard oneâ
Your comment had Dana snorting as she didnât even bother to try hiding the fact that she had been eavesdropping on your conversation up to this point.
âYeah yeah now get out of hereâ he rolled his eyes with a fond smile âone of us has to make sure our bills our paid this monthâ
âIâm going Iâm goingâ you groaned with a matching eye roll, pushing up slightly onto your toes and pressing a quick kiss to his cheek, pulling away much too quickly for Jackâs liking with a whispered I love you.
Then you were gone, headed back the way you came leaving nothing but the soft scent of your perfume in the air around him as Jack forced his eyes down to the chart in his hands, pointedly ignoring Danaâs gaze.
Just when he thought he was going to be trapped in the inevitable teasing of his charge nurse Dr. King came running up to the station, Jack more than happy to turn his attention to her and ready to distract himself with whatever case had her moving so fast.
Instead, however, Melâs expression with brimming with barely contained excitement, her gaze searching everywhere around Jack but never properly landing on the man himself âWas that Y/N I heard? Is she here?â
With a disbelieving huff, Jack went back to his chart âyou just missed herâ
âNo sheâs by the door with Robbyâ Dana cut in with a smile, enjoying the way Jacks neck nearly snapped as he whipped his gaze across the ED to where you now stood with Robby, talking animatedly about something while the older man listened with a smile on his face and hands in his pockets, looking much more relaxed than the two of them usually saw him within the department.
Mel peeled off without a second word to either of them, the pair watching the way your expression lit up once more as you recognized her as she approached.
âYou gonna correct thatâ Dana nodded vaguely in your direction, her and Jack leaning onto the counter of the nurseâs station from opposite sides watching you give Mel an enthusiastic high five over whatever story she had rushed over to tell you.
âProbably talk to everyone at some pointâ Jack shrugged in response âthe Pitt canât afford to come to a screeching halt every time she so much as walks in the doorsâ
âNo dumbassâ Dana admonishes with a dramatic groan âitâs good the way everyone brightens up when sheâs here. God knows we could use some positivity around here. I mean Whitakerâs comment about the wrong nameâ
âI mean sheâs already told him to call her by her first name but I could talk to him-â
Dana silenced Jack with a glare, the attending turning his attention back to you from across the room as you eagerly talked to Mel and Robby.
âWas thinking about asking Robby to go ring shopping with me this weekendâ he admitted softly âScale of 1-10 how bad of an idea is thatâ
âNot where I thought this story was going but love is love so I support-â now it was Jackâs turn to silence Dana with a glare, the charge nurse enjoying way too much the way the tips of his ears colored at the admission.
âa sevenâ she mused with a shrug, turning her attention back to you as you finally said goodbye to the two doctors âmaybe a sixâ she let the silence settle around them and watched as Jack eyed her with a skeptical glare from her periphery âinvite me along and I can keep it below a threeâ
Jack studied her for a second, crossing his arms over his chest before nodding softly âdoneâ
Dana fought to keep the grin off her face as Robby finally started to make his way towards the two of them, Jack catching him slipping an awfully familiar looking protein bar into the pocket of his sweatshirt âJesus how many of those does she haveâ
Robby shrugged with a chuckle, eyes casting up to the board above the desk as he did so âshe mentioned something about having extra chocolate onesâ
âI saw her slipping Santos bags of trail mix earlier if youâd prefer thatâ Dana chimed in with a smirk as Jack huffed dramatically.
âdid everyone get to talk to her but me this morning?â
âYou get her every day, stop being so selfishâ Robby clasped his shoulder with a smug grin, giving it a soft shake.
âSelfishâ Jack repeated under his breath with a shake of his head, eyes going up to the board to pick out his next case as he did so âgod forbid I want to spend time with my future wifeâ
He hadnât even realized he said it out loud until the Pitt around him seemed to go unnaturally quiet. Casting his gaze back down he caught Robby and Dana sharing pointed, amused looks before turning their teasing grins back on him.
All he could get out was a simple ânoâ before he was storming off to the closest room, refusing to acknowledge the way Robby yelled out a threat after him âWe will be talking about this laterâ
You were never meant to be the bride. You were the eldest, the steady one, the one who stayed behind when brighter girls were chosen. You told yourself love was not meant for women like you.
You think you are an obligation.
He only knows you are the only woman he has ever wanted.
