Of Cats and Mice @Sammy
Samantha was frozen as he leaned close to her, his breath hot on her ear as he pulled each word out from the depths of his twisted mind. She tried not to linger on them too much, instead concentrating on controlling her heart rate. She didnât like him being this close, and he often invaded her personal space. It was annoying and she wished heâd learn.
He never would, though, so she learned instead to suffer through it. Still, the quickened heart rate was never fun. She hated when he pulled stunts like this, his little power plays that made him all the more cocky.
But she knew she had to one up him. She had to stay on top and make sure he knew it. So when he was about finished his impressive little speech and drew back from her to watch her reaction, she simply yawned. And not a fake yawn, either. This was a real yawn, brought on by her sleepless nights and maybe the fact that sheâd stopped breathing when he leaned in close. Yawning was one of the quickest ways to get oxygen to the brain, and it wasnât always a reflex for how tired a person was. But it was timed perfectly to tick off the brute before her.
âAre you quite done?â She asked, letting her tone grow bored. âIâd like to collect my book again and go back to my room.â
Danâs expression went from a cold mask of calculated anger to all out fury as she yawns, brushing off his threats like little more than a few badly placed puns. Oh she was asking for it. Did she want him to tear her apart? To grab that defiant jaw of hers and tilt her head up to force her to meet his furious eyes and force his lips on hers? Waitâwhat?!
He shakes his head, backing away from her and trying to clear his head. He couldnât keep letting his thoughts wander like that, especially when facing her. She wasnât much of a threat physically, but that little remote in her hand created one hell of a problem. Dan had become far too attracted to someone with that much power over him. Attraction made him weaker, and it made him hesitate. If he wasnât so attracted to her, she would be begging for her life right now.
But instead he stood in front of her, internally battling with himself as he stared down at her before letting out a frustrated noise and turning from her. âGet your fucking book.â He hisses back at her over his shoulder, âAnd donât you dare show such blatant disregard towards my anger again. I am letting you off easy this timeâthis one time. But there will not be a second. They will be scraping you off the floor when Iâm done with you if you dare try that again.â He had no interest in really letting her off easy, but he needed her off her guard. If he could catch her off guard and get that remote from her, heâd finally have the upper hand once again.
