Why the INFJ “gut feeling” is a myth.

I see articles about the INFJ gut feeling legit everywhere and I felt like I had to write this because it’s completely untrue. Whenever an INFJ (or Ni dom) makes a judgement about a situation, its always based on a series of logical deductions and the process is very obvious to the user. If anything, the judgements that are referred to by others as “gut feelings” are just snap judgements that are made when the Ni user’s understanding of something doesn’t match up with an event they’ve just encountered. Ill give an example of when another INFJ friend did this to me. Example: I’m a very upbeat person, and this INFJ friend perceives me this way. Normally when we meet we get super excited because we live very far apart so we’ll hug and talk about whatever we’ve been up to. I was mildly distant literally one time and she immediately asked me what was wrong. I was actually feeling like shit at the time because I’d just had huge a fight with my best friend. I asked her how she knew and she explained that she figured because of my constant upbeat-ness was that I wasnt easily affected by negative things (which is very true, any of my other friends would say the same) and logically since I seemed off this one time that something big must’ve happened to make me feel shitty. She was right. I legitimately hate how easily this one friend can read my moods haha. Why I think this is: The reason I think people assume INFJs make judgements based on gut feeling is because INFJs tendency to base their judgements on connotations or implications of things can seem convoluded from an outside perspective. I think when faced with things like this, INFJs will tend to ask “why” endlessly, like how children do. The result of this is that they narrow down the list of reasons something might seem “off” or “different” to the point where it seems like they’ve contacted some psychic dimension and downloaded the answer by the time they actually offer their opinion on why something is happening.

My favorite extrovert quirk.

there’s one funny thing my extrovert friends do and I’m convinced it’s an extrovert quirk. often when I’m hanging out with my extrovert friends, they do this thing if we’re just sitting quietly where they’ll turn their whole body to face me, or just start looking at me like they’re waiting for me to talk. My reaction to this is assuming they have something to say, and we just end up making silent but expecting eye-contact for like 3 seconds. after neither of us speaks I’ll say something like “uhh..yes?” or “whats up?” and they’ll just smile and shrug their shoulders while still saying nothing. its hilarious. it makes me crack up every time. I have a couple of ENFJ friends, ENFP friends, an ESFP and an ESFJ friend (examples I can think of off the top of my head) that do this and I never know what they’re expecting. extroverts do you. keep being quirky.
