a  reformed  diamond          /          an  off - colour  lion     :          an  extraordinary  pair  they  make  upon  such  a  bleak  landscape       .              tongue  laps  at  the  edges  of  a  mouth     ,          showing  serrated - edged  teeth          (          even  these  tinted  pink          )          entirely  without  malice       .              he  comes  to  rest  upon  sun - warmed  sand     ,          chin  upon  paws     ,          content  to  close  eyes  with  her  at  his  side     :          she     ,          a  life - giver     ,          a  goddess       ⸻       perhaps  she  is  now  his  pride       .

oddity  is  approached  first  with  caution     ,          then  with  curiosity     :          something  new  to   be  discovered     ,          to  smell          &          to  touch       ⸻       perhaps  to  taste       ?              breaths  taken  eagerly  at  the  edge  of  curious  thing     ,          hoping  it  to  be  something  meant  for  eating       ...              or  at  the  very  least  chewed  upon       .

a  lone  beast     ,          solitary  upon  the  dunes     ,          feasts  upon  latest  catch     :          easily  spotted  for  the  unnatural  hue  of  pelt     ,          pink  where  should  be  a  tawn - gold       .              unperturbed  by  seclusion     ,          gaze  is  cast  out  upon  endless  sands     ,          awaiting  an  arrival       .
