[[I work for my local Board of elections and the Election is gearing up and we’re in crunch mode so that’s why I’ve been incommunicado for so long and will be till after the Election. My apologies.
"Ah, y-yes,“ She nodded her head firmly, the corners of her lips quirking upwards ever so slightly, "Yes, thank you so much…”The very idea that she’d be going against Order regulations was a bit exciting, to say in the least. The worst thing she’d ever committed was keeping those odd glowing flowers she’d found during one of her and her troops’ expeditions. This act, however, was incredibly against the rules- though she was intensely pleased to be breaking said rules, though she wasn’t exactly sure why…
“Well then let us hope that they get their meal to us soon so we can be off.” It was then, as though summoned, that the waiter returned with their drinks and food. Placing the items on the table he gave the two of them a polite bow before departing, leaving them with their meal. It took him no time to get his meal in order for quick consumption. “Normally I would say take your time and enjoy but I get the sense that you’re eager to see these holograms so, enjoy, but go at the pace you desire.”
The offer had her lean a bit closer, brows furrowing as shelistened to him. She’d been rather confused at first, bring the stars to her? What an odd statement…was he perhaps speaking in metaphor? However, with furtherexplanation, she’d understood his statement completely. A projection would bethe perfect answer…that way, she didn’t have to sneak off and risk any sort ofunwanted attention. “C-could you really…” She paused, thinking for a moment to choose her wordscarefully, “Could you really do that? I wouldn’t want to impose…”
“Of course, i wouldn't offer if I didn’t mean it.” He gave something of a warm smile. “After all it doesn’t cost me anything, I already have the equipment. When we’re done here we can go to the docking bay where my ship is and you can view the Galaxy to your hearts content, or at the very least until duties call one of us away. That alright with you?”
Kry’sku nodded slowly, mentally taking note of his words. She doubted she’d ever be able to go to such a lovely star cluster; she’d probably be tracked or followed by a member of the Order, only to be reported shortly after. “W-well…” She cleared her throat carefully before glancing around the large room in case any of her ‘crew’ happened to be about. Seeing no one familiar she looked to the other once more, “I’ve just…lost hope…after all these years… I suppose it’s a silly thing to say, but…I fear I may never have hope again.”
He sat quiet for a moment, disheartened by her words. He could push it, he thought, the idea of hope, but perhaps there was a better way. “If you cannot go to the stars,” His words were soft as he spoke, because he knew something of not having all the freedoms you would wish upon yourself.
“If you cannot go to them, then I will bring them to you.” He put his hands together on the table. “My ship, has an entertainment room, I can project to you the galaxy. I can show you the stars as they were seen by those who were there, it would be the next best thing. Perhaps you would join me for that? The galaxy at your finger tips, and you’d never leave the docking bay.”
tips for writing Star Wars fanfic/Star Wars roleplay things
it’s not concrete; it’s duracrete
viewports are the windows on ships
not a plane; ship or speeder
it’s not steel; it’s durasteel
books are rare; holorecords or datapads
it’s not a glass pane it’s transparisteel
caf is the equivalent of coffee
it’s not paper it’s a flimsi
medcenter is a hospital
Star Wars can be very similar to things we’re already used to, but getting familiar with some of these terms can make your writing really fit in with the universe
This is brilliant! Here’s another:
It’s not a movie; it’s a holovid
It’s not a phone or cell; it’s a holocom or communicator or just comm (unit). You normally comm someone instead of call them.
Searching our standard terms in Wookieepedia will normally provide you with one or several in-universe alternatives. The other items exist, they’re just either archaic terms or really low-tech versions of what’s commonly used (like concrete is a real thing, but just extremely less durable and strong than the more advanced and common duracrete).
I’ve seen ‘permacrete’ used in the latest books as well.
Back in the day weren’t the “glass” windows on x-wings and ships called like invisa-steel or something? That stuck in my head from the Thrawn trilogy I think. I remember sitting there in deep contemplation over how the hell you make the molecule chains in metal transparent and worrying about carbon chains and shit because what’s what you do in 10th grade.
I remember seeing med center used as medbay and sickbay as well, and dishwasher as sonic dishwasher? (correct me if wrong tho, I can’t remember v well). But here’s some more:
bandaids = bacta patches bathroom = refresher watch/clock = chrono first aid kit = medpack, medkit motorcycle = speeder bike, swoop bike camera = holocamera internet = holonet shower = sonic shower(?)
Correct any of these if they’re wrong ;P also they’re all legends I think and I’m not sure if any of them are in new canon.
I love this, because it’s not condescending or pretentious…just fans letting newer fans know ways to improve their fic. I love the films, but I haven’t been able to get access to so many of the books and comics yet (even though they’re waiting in my Amazon cart for pay day), so this is awesome. And I’ve basically been living on Wookieepedia lately, too!
BLESS THIS WONDERFUL POST!! ❤
Shower does = Sonic Shower but generally
Shower/Bathroom collectively = Refresher/’Fresher
There are cars, they’re called Groundcars.
Ground Speeders tend to have a max flight height of a few meters
Air Speeders can fly very high, but not leave atmosphere.
If you’re in the Old Republic (2000+ years before the movies) it’s not Bacta, its Kolto.
MGLT or Megalights is the measurement of speed for starships (but it’s scaling is off as it would make a TIE fighter slow as kriff so just use kph/kps)
Everything is in metric
The Galaxy is separated into the Deep Core, Core Worlds, Colonies, Inner Rim, Expansion Region, Middle Rim, Outer Rim. Much of the western galaxy is undocumented (but not unexplored necessarily) and is called The Unknown Regions. (these are only the main divisions, not political dividing, like the Hapes Consortium, or the Six Sisters of Eshan) There are seven companion Galaxies, the most famous being Companion Aurek, aka the Rishi Maze.
She looked down into her lap as the waiter walked away, fiddling with her fingers. It was only then that she noted the small traces of sand and dirt still under her nails. Ah…how unfortunate. She thought she’d cleaned them spotless. Looking back up to him, her eyes widened a bit, “That sounds amazing…” She spoke softly, daring to give a smile, “Now I just have to see it.” “I-it was nothing, really…” She replied, shaking her head, “Just a small thought. I wouldn’t want to bore you.”
“It’s,” He paused to think for a moment, “Only a few days travel back and forth with a class one hyperdrive. Faster with a point seven, like the one on my ship.” He almost worded it like an offer, but left it hanging, mostly on purpose. “But no really, you can say what you were going to. Conversation’s been very one sided thus far, you’ve learned much about me, only fair to give you a turn.”
She fell silent upon hearing his words. Hope…never being childish or false… The words were a bit confusing to Kry’sku, as she hadn’t ever heard of the topic in a positive light. Her superiors would have immediately denounced the idea of ever having hope; it wasn’t looked for in her line of work. “Yes…that’s true…” She looked out the window once again, studying the seemingly infinite number of constellations and ribbons of galaxies that seemed to be so far, far away, “Was it…was it as dazzling as you make it out to be? The nebula, I mean.” She looked to him once again. “I…” She trailed off. She herself indeed hoped. Hoped to one day leave the Order, to one day travel the systems, to one day see anything other than the mass of hatred and darkness she had grown so used to. Shaking her head to rid herself of such foolish thoughts, she looked to the waiter, “Ah, a small bowl of Traladon goulash, please…”
Vincent frowned a bit at her simple order, but it was not for him to push for her to order something else. He himself ordered the steak he’d mentioned, and a side of tuber soup as an appetizer. The waiter took the order and stepped away, allowing them to return to their conversation.
“It was,” He finally answered. “More so really, seeing it in person, the little features that at a distant are so vague or just not visible, the swirls of gas and plasma as they dance and ignite.” He took a moment, let out a sigh. “What about you? You were about to say something before the waiter came up.”
Business Unusual
Regarding that statement with a tip of her head and a brief raise and fall of a single brow, she wordlessly reached down to fish her pad out of her thigh pocket— hey, didn’t hurt nobody to just check for a moment.
Still paying attention to the group of three off the corner of her eye, she finally straightened up, pushing away from the archway, as she slipped her pad right back in its place, “…—Eh, don’t mind if I do.” Why pass a chance to gain those extra credits, really? A casual half-shrug followed that statement, as she held lingering back once more, waiting for the little entourage to start heading out, throwing a fleeting look over at the Rodian; a look that easily read, ‘I’d hate to be in your shoes.’ — amateurs, pfft.
[Several of the resulting actions and conversations were determined by the roll of a D20]
The walk from the bounty hunters ship was not long, but it was heavy with an uneasy silence. The Rodian was clearly terrified. Not of the hunter, or the armed guard, but more of the woman, and the man she walked next to. Whenever he would cast and upward glance it was in their direction, and every time, like clockwork, the woman’s head would turn to match his gaze, and he’d drop back down, staring at the floor
When they came to a halt it was in front of a door, years of wear had worn off any labels, a few splotches of yellow and black were visible around its perimeter, but nothing else. Pressing a button on a panel beside the door it hissed open, and the guard casually shoved the Rodian through the threshold and the door sealed shut behind it, it turned back, looking through the port hole of the door, and let out a squeal of terror.
“Shut up,” Vincent responded, taking a step direct center of the port hole, glaring through at the Rodian. “Answer my questions, to my satisfaction, and we let you out.” He crossed his hands in front of him, “Do not and you’ll learn what fear really is.”
Tskeeta nodded, his shoulders slumped.
“First question, who hired you to attack the ship?”
The big bulbous eyes looked away for a moment, glancing around the small room they were in, trying to find a clue or some out. He knew there wasn’t one tho. If he told the Echani the truth, his employer would kill him, if he didn’t the Echani would. But a life on the run was still a life? Right?
“Gridora the Hutt.” It’s long snout of a mouth drooped, “Your client hadn’t paid Gridora for protection that month, so he ordered me to take out your shipment. He chose you specifically.”
“Why?”
“Because you represent a rival security company, he can now bluster about that he took out one of your shipments.”
The Echani’s hand clenched, the leather in his gloves creaking. “And why did you kill the crew?”
“I didn’t… Gridora did.” There was a quiver in the Rodian’s voice, he was telling the truth, and he didn’t like it. “After I captured the ship Gridora’s barge showed up, he had them marched in front of him, and his Enforcers… well I wish I hadn’t stayed and watched.”
At this point the woman spoke up, picking up where Vincent seemed to angered to continue. “And what did you do with the ship and it’s cargo?”
“I was given it as part of my payment, Gridora’s a cheapskate like that. I sold the cargo at Ord Mantell and was going to dump the ship when your hunter got me.” He listed off a set of coordinates on Cato Nemodia and Vincent glanced at the woman.
“One of the more mountainous cities.” Vincent nodded, and then looked at the bounty hunter. “Bonus is being granted, I’d task you to go get the ship but my guess is Cato Nemodia is a place you should avoid for now.”
The Rhodian interrupted, “What about me? You said you would let me out if I answered.”
Vincent slowed turned back to the Rodian, nodding his head. “That I did.” The woman stepped up to the console by the door and hooked her datapad into it. A moment later the inside of the room the Rhodian was in began to light up, yellow flashing lights. A second door came down, one between him and the original. The Rhodian screamed something in it’s native language, Vincent didn’t care to translate. “We’re letting you out, and sending you right back to Gridora. With a message. You will tell him this…”
Placing a hand over the door frame he leaned forward, nearly pressing his nose against the transperasteel viewport. “You will burn.” The woman pressed a button, and the corridor shook. The room Tskeeta as in shook, and slid away from them, after a moment it floated free in space, revealing that it was an escape pod.
Thrusters fired, orienting the pod as two small engine pods slipped out from the side as the pod rotated to it’s port. It’s engines flared, and for a split second the pod seemed to stretch on forever before it snapped away into a burst of light, into hyperspace.
Stepping away from the door Vincent smoothed his coat and seemed to regain a calm demeanor. “Callista, send a retrieval team, an armed one, to fetch the ship, and order the Vision of Confluence to rendezvous with us at the next jump point for this ship.”
He then turned back to the hunter, “The bonus is being transferred, as I said. However how would you like another job? A, ‘the better you do, the more you earn’ job?” He placed his hands behind his back, “We’re going to go visit the little criminal empire of a Hutt. Bring me proof of execution of every lieutenant you can, and I’ll pay you 10,000 credits a piece.”
His expression went stone cold after that, “Bring me the Hutt’s head, and I’ll refit your little Helix at not cost.”

Mira had her fork halfway up to her face with food before she registered what the woman across from her had said. She turned a shade of red, and tried to hide her embarrassment. “No I, don’t usually wait on such formalities, ya know, eating alone all the time… Sorry…”
She held up her free hand, “No no it’s fine, I don’t myself but I didn’t want to be rude.” She reached over and tapped the console on the wall, a few condiments sliding out from a recess. Picking up a glass bottle of some sort of sauce she poured it over her meal before taking a bite. “There are quite a few groups in Echani Space who can use a pilot, ship or no ship. So, you have options.”
“Well, it’s a corporate ship…” Mira trailed off in thought for a moment while she ate. “I can’t imagine, given the current circumstances, that they’d get terribly upset with me for using the ship for other things, so long as I continue to maintain it as well as I have. And given that I spent a good 6 months learning how to fix a YT-1300, before they let me even fly it once, I think I’ll be ok on that front.”
“I see.” She nodded, and took another bite. “And that’s if, maker have mercy, there is still a company to claim ownership.” It was a solemn thought, and one Callista pushed away not wanting the young woman to dwell. “Even if, there are many who would hire without a ship, and loan one. Our parent company even has a habit of granting a ship to their pilots, and in turn when they retire the pilot sells the ship back, it’s considered a return on investment, as a ship in a pilots name tends to be taken better care of.”

Rainbow light sabers
Star Wars geek question here.
Whenever you see a light-saber fight you always see that they are different colors.
In a way that make sense because that means the differing wavelengths would interfere with each other.
But what would happen if the dueling sabers are of the same color and wavelength?
Would they harmlessly pass through each other making defense with a light-saber totally useless…
… or would the wavelength match cause them to merge?
A case could be made that it would be beneficial to have a light-saber that you can change the color of while attacking and nullify any attack when defending.
Did not know enough details about how a lightsaber works - now I do.
So apparently the best description is plasma encased in a magnetic field.
Nice to know you can stop or deflect a light saber with really powerful magnet.
That is essentially how shields block them, powerful energy/magnetic fields that reflect or at least dilutes the energy. In universe the technobabble could go on, like how polarized armor is able to somewhat resist lightsabers before they eat into it.
^ 5 Things The Cortosis Industry Doesn’t Want You To Know
The Echani Cortosis Mining Guild has no issue with people knowing this, simply because a suit of tailor made armor with Cortosis weave is more reasonably affordable, and easier to wear, than a bubble shield generator, or a large electromagnet.

// Can anyone help me come up with period-specific verse names? Like, for the prequel era, for the original trilogy era, for TFA era? I am shit at naming things, and I could use some help, since Vivian’s backstory is deliberately vague so she can operate in all eras…
[[I attempt to name them after what the character/characters are doing or focusing on in that time period. i.e. my TFA tag is “T: This Little War Of Ours” due to my characters focus on being a PMC in a galaxy at war. My Pre-TFA tag is “T: Pre-Dawn” while my Original Trilogy era smuggler tag is “T: Smuggler’s Alliance”
So for you some examples might be, as a smuggler “V: Unsanctioned Cargo” or “V: Blockade Runner” for the Imperial/Original trilogy era. For TFA it could be “Gun Runner” or “A Galaxy on Fire”. PT, if your characters running cargo for either side “A Privateers Life For Me” or “Legitimate Cargo” might work.

“That sounds lovely,” The Knight mused, almost on the edge of her seat as she listened to the other. She’d always loved the stars, “I’ve never heard of such a wonderful sounding nebula…perhaps I should look it up in my maps.” The galaxy itself was breathtaking within itself, always having something new or mysterious. Billions of areas having never been explored or charted. “Yes,” She replied, gaze looking out through the window towards the scene outside the ship, her face softening, “When I was a youngling I wanted nothing more than to travel through the universe, seeing all the sorts of things and planets…” She chuckled a bit, shaking her head as she looked back at him, “It was…a silly hope, yes?”
“Not necessarily.” He motioned his hands open, “The thing about hope is it’s never silly, never childish. It may often be fleeting, sometimes even false, but hope is hope. For a lot of people it’s what gives them drive.” He closed his hands back together and smiled, “It’s a big galaxy, lots of room. Lots of places to go, and to see. And a life time is pretty big too, lots of chances to make changes. To do new things, go out and see other worlds. When I was kid, I looked up at that nebula. As an adult, I’ve stood on the hull of a ship and seen it with my own eyes, only a bit of transparisteel and armorweave between me and it.” “I may have been lucky, born into the family I was born into. But hope, to one day see that nebula is what made it so, special.” He glanced to the side, as the waiter came up to take their orders. “One day, you may very well see the Nebula yourself. For the moment tho, hold to the hope, and order whatever you’d like.”

Thumbnails, Concept, and FInal Draft of Vincent’s Starfighter, the Ivory Dagger by Adam Ihle of Ihle Creations. Inspiration fell heavily on the Eta-2 Actis Jedi Starfighter and RZ-1 Awing Interceptor. While many of it’s internal components were inspired by the TIE/D Defender. The ship is fairly beefy for it’s size, though like the A-wing all that beef sits in the back. This is where the reactors, shield generators (yes, plural, it has two), and engine resides.
The ship is powered by two modified I-s4d solar ionization reactors, fed by a solar ionization array that sits adjacent to the cockpit module (the small silver nodes with fins just behind the cockpit). The reactors feeds power directly into the engines, a P-sz9.7.4 Twin Ion Engine. This allows the ship to push roughly 1700 meters per second in space, in atmosphere it retains the TIE/D’s top speed of 1,680kph.
A feature unique to the Dagger, is the HiMAT system (High Mobility Aerial Tactics). This system shunts extra power to the engines, and closes the ships S-foils into cruise mode. The extra engine power allows the ship to temporary gain a 25% boost to speed and mobility in both atmosphere in space. 2100kph in atmosphere, 2125kps in space. This puts extra strain on the engines, however, and can only be used for roughly five minutes before safeties shut it down. Additionally it puts extra strain on the pilot. Vincent gets past this by using the Force to bolster himself, in addition to a flight suit, however anyone not in a full flight suit with proper G-force equipment would likely blackout or red out during maneuvers.
For defense the ship features two Novaldex shield generators They sit adjacent to the reactor, behind the solar ionization arrays, in the last image they would be the two semi cylinder looking sections flanking the rear of the craft. These generators provide an overlapping field of defense, both can provide ray and particle shields either simultaneously or one providing ray and the other particle.
For offense the ship is fitted with two small quad laser turrets, these turrets have a shorter range than most, to compensate for a smaller platform. Like the X-wings of old, and new, the weapons can be dialed to fire at different rates or sequences. Rapid fire can eat through weak shields and hull, but is only useful against other fighters. on the other end of the spectrum single shot pushes all the power into one shot per turret each sequence, providing punch against freighters, and light capital (like Corvettes) while also extending range.
For when lasers are not enough, the lower portion of the ship contains an internal weapons bay. the bay can carry a number of munitions but in general fields 4 Proton Missiles for anti-ship duty, and 4 cluster-missiles for anti-fighter duty. It can be loaded with other munitions, cluster bombs, or swapped out for an Energy Bomb Launcher, though this does cause a reduction in speed due to the extra weight and power drain.
Finally the ships small profile, on top of ECM/ECCM systems mounted in the forward fins give the ship limited stealth. It’s engines can be tuned to produce a low heat and energy signature when not in full combat flight.
