I need help.
I have two Macs now. Connected files and everything. I had a completed version of a Word file I finished a few days ago. My laptop had the incomplete version of the same Word file, open and everything. Without thinking, I saved it and closed the file.
I closed up my laptop, not realizing I had completely and utterly erased ALL my hard work on that Word file with the incomplete version and I tried Googling ways to recover a previous saved version of that Word file, but to no avail. A lot of it seems dated, and nobody seems to have posted any recent methods.
Does anyone know how to recover a previous save file, or did I just completely and utterly fuck myself with the overwritten file and now have to write up 20+ pages all over again?
Because I am about to rage quit and scream into the void from frustration. And possibly maybe put a fist through my laptop and/or monitor.
Eeeh…I think you’re hosed. If you attempted to overwrite a newer file with an older file, it should have prompted you with a warning that the file you’re attempting to replace is newer, and are you sure you want to save. But once you’ve saved it, far as I am aware, that’s it, you’re done. There is no going back, unlike with the revision history of a wiki page or Google doc file.
That said, you could check and see if there’s a revision history available for Word for Mac option. I haven’t seen that in Word at any time, but I also haven’t had a need to look either (plus I don’t have it installed on my computer these days, much as I should correct this). That might give you an avenue to look, if your previous searches weren’t already along those lines.
you could potentially recover the file by going to file>info>manage documents then you should find some options regarding recovering unsaved and saved documents previous versions. It might be best to do this on the computer that originally had the full document. [Here’s a microsoft help article regarding it]
