Alright, new blog post is live! And before you ask, yes, you actually have to read this one. I know, I know—it’s not a 15-second video or a pretty little carousel you can swipe through in five seconds. This is that old-school, sit-down-and-get-into-it type of digital creation. I pour my whole self into each essay I write, and for this one on my take of the duality of Black womanhood, and I want y'all to get into it with me. Stop acting like you can’t read my essays! Go ahead and read the post. Go on, I know you can do it. 😉 #BlackWomanhood #Duality #Blogging #PersonalEssay
I’ve already shared that I started this blog, and it felt good to be courageous in that. This was my first post-- the first layer I peeled back. I’ve always been a writer, but in private. I didn’t want to share my writing on personal social media pages because of my fears: imperfection, judgment, and the uncertainty of what happens after vulnerability. Right now, I feel vulnerable while navigating formidability for many. I’m reminding myself that vulnerability is not weakness and it takes strength to peel back your layers. I titled this post “Peeling Back the Layers” because of the citrus theme of my blog. It’s always been rooted in community and harmony (sharing orange slices-- get it?). But as I reread it, I realize I wasn’t ready to be vulnerable. How can I build community around life’s zest and tang if I’m afraid to share those parts of me? This isn’t to say I plan to tell all my bidness now, because that’s not it at all. But the way in which I share...how much I allow myself to be seen...is something I’m learning to navigate. I’m asking myself for permission to share my duality. I’ll revisit this post as a marker of where true vulnerability began to settle in. I remember how I felt when I pressed the button to post it to my blog. I remember how it felt to share it on my personal page. And I’ll remember how I feel right now, as I reshare it. I don’t know what God has in store for me, but I think this is part of it. In the meantime, I’m making changes to the way I share my posts-- to honor my duality and live in this stage of formidable vulnerability.
This year is about honoring my joy, setting boundaries that feel good, and pouring back into my own cup until it overflows. A radical act. New blog post is live! How are you honoring your zest this year? #Joy #Reclamation #RadicalSelfCare
For me, it’s the slow, grounding magic of going home to Georgia—a place where time slows down, love feels infinite, and the weight of history is both heavy and beautiful. This post is a reflection on family, roots, and what it means to carry the dreams of those who came before us while navigating the complexities of today. Let’s talk about it—what takes you back to your roots? 🌱✨

The Real Glow-Up: The Relationships That Fuel You
Daily writing promptWhat relationships have a positive impact on you?View all responses We spend a lot of time talking about the relationships that drain us. You know the ones—the friendships that feel like a group project where you’re doing all the work, or the family ties that come with more obligations than joy. It’s important to know when to walk away from what no longer serves you. But what…
The Emotional Journey of Ending a Friendship
The Pain of Letting Go Letting go of a friendship isn’t easy—unless we’re talking about dropping your ex’s old hoodie (in which case, please, that’s souvenir status, and we both know it). On the real: saying goodbye to someone who felt like found family? Whew. That’s not just heartbreak, that’s “cry in the shower then check your group chat for memes” energy. It’s the kind of pain that makes you…
Navigating the Weight of Expectations in Friendships
Friendship, in theory, should be easy. When we were kids, all it took was a shared cookie or a secret handshake and—boom—we were ride or die. Simple. But then adulthood barges in, knocking over the juice boxes with a 9-to-5 schedule and monthly rent reminders, and suddenly friendship feels more like one of those escape room challenges—except nobody gives you the clues. According to a 2021 Pew…
