i so desperately want for him to love me in the way that i love him. i care so deeply but his avoidance makes it seem like he doesn’t care at all. i don’t know why he won’t let me go if he can’t care for me. or maybe he won’t let me go because he doesn’t care for me. i don’t know. but i do know that i can’t free myself from this alone
when you fall in love but the person turns out to be a self centred asshole who has commitment issues and now all you want to do is hide in bed and cry for the rest of your days

Reasons why I like Mike Wheeler/ Why he is a great person and deserves better:
He is kind.
He is very protective of the things and people that he cares about.
Struggles with emotions and may sometimes comes off as rude.
Always ready to risk his life for others.
Will admit when he is in the wrong.
Learns from his mistakes.
Is a great boyfriend to El.
He expresses his love through actions despite struggling to actually say it.
The universe is conspiring against him.
I will defend this boy with my life. I've never connected more with a fictional character.

a hill i will die on: mike wheeler is actually so clever and so good at problem solving, probably the best in their party. dustin is definitely the most knowledgeable and therefore people think he’s cleverest (which is true!!! he has a very broad range of knowledge about monsters and alternate dimensions and stuff like that, which makes him Knowledgable, not Ingenious). mike doesn’t have as much of that sort of knowledge on hand, but he has such a quick brain!! at the very beginning in s1 he comes up with the plan for el to ring the doorbell to ask his mom for help (the plan didn’t work, but it was a good one nonetheless). then in the last ep in s2 he’s the one who had the plan to set fire to the tunnels. and THEN AGAIN in season 4 he’s the one with the idea to seek out suzie’s help. coming up with creative solutions to problems as they come up makes him CLEVER and INGENIOUS and i’m so tired of people just associating mike with being the one dimensional love interest especially in recent seasons! no! he has a very interesting character arc if you would just take the time to read into his actions a little more, you’d see too that he has so much more to offer that isn’t tied to eleven or will, much as i love both of them. in this household we appreciate mike wheeler and his special, invaluable input to our favourite show!

I like mike and el’s relationship because it feels like a subversion of the traditional male superhero/female romantic partner and emotional tether trope that makes up the majority of superhero narratives. it’s like gender-bent lois and clark or peter and mary-jane, etc. and despite the traumatic circumstances that made it happen, even the element of mike having long hair and el having a short buzzcut contributes to the standard subversion and makes them look quite iconic together
i cant believe that (some) people in this fandom still REFUSED to see how mike loves and cares for eleven. Like… it’s already the 4th season. Their relationship is not something that was built because of the shared trauma. maybe it was at the beginning, but all of them shares it now, it’s nothing uncommon for the group anymore at this point. but it’s clear that he has some buried personal trauma in there that he isn’t aware of atm. and maybe that’s why he cant express his feelings properly. there’s a lot of maybes in mike’s character that has not been explored that much. and i think they’ve also building this season into that as well. mike is a vital character. his story is needed to be told. but one thing is for sure: he was never confused about what he truly feels for eleven. it’s always been genuine. there will always be a part of eleven in mike.
