It's actually funny that I read the book first and watched the films much later, so I imagined the characters in my head completely differently (well, except for Vito and Michael, because it was hard not to stumble across them at least once)

I wonder if Connie's resentment towards Michael could be partially directed at Vito? Unconsciously. Yes, she says things like "if only DAD were alive" (Michael makes such a funny face in this scene, I love their beef). But Vito is practically a sacred figure in their family, while Michael is your annoying older brother, who also happens to be the Godfather.
