Acting Journal Day 7

What do you like about the character? I like Jude as he is tragically flawed reminded of an old Greek tale while the captain seems like he is the stock and essential space captain.

What is similar between you and that character? Like Jude I have experienced my lows in life and like the captain we have both failed at jobs

Do you know someone else who is like the character?

I do not know anyone like the captain and Jude I have friends ad family who battle with severe depression and suicidal actions

Do you have a personal experience that helps you understand this character? No not really for any of them

Think about why the character is the way he/she is. What made them the way they are? Make up a "back story" or history of the character. Where did they come from? What do they like and dislike? How old are they? What do they dress like?

The captain is Jack Redding, an elite member of the GCC. He was born on earth but raised in a colony in space and enlisted in the GCC shortly after high school, he is 32 years of age. He dresses in the GCC standard AB7 armor,  he is a fan of classic westerns and noir films.

Jude is a down and out man who wishes to end it all. He is late twenties working a dead end job barley making ends meet. He was raised by his mother who died while he was in high school leaving him all alone. He left school early to get a job to support himself but his job does not pay enough and has left him beyond struggling. Then one night he meets Grace an angel who promises to make it better but all the time spent seems to have no affect.

I am choosing the monologues “Fallen” and “Alien Goo”

Why do you like the monologues?

I like them because in “Fallen”  Jude is very crestfallen and the scene is very dark while in “Alien Goo” is scifi and light heart Who is the main character of each monologue? Jude is the main character in “Fallen” while a person simply called Captain is the main character in “Alien Goo

What is the character like? Jude is at the end of his rope and wishes to end his life while Captain is trying to accomplish taking over an alien planet

Where is the character (the setting/place it is taking place)? Jude is in a dimly lit room at night while the Captain is on a alien planet Why is the character saying what they are saying in the monologue?  (What's their motivation?)The captain is on a mission from the GCC, Jude is trying to end his life but an angel intervenes How did the character get to the point they are now? (what is their background? where did they come from? why are they behaving the way they do?) The captain has been exploring and has failed before. Jude is torn between ending his life and Angel who loves him

Is the monologue from a play? If so, read the play and write about what you learned about the character from the play. “Fallen” is from a one act play “Grace” and Jude and believes his life is not worth having but the angel Grace wants to show him there is love and beauty while the other angel Bez wants to help him end his life

Which monologue video do you feel was the best? “Staying Power “ performed by actress Kasey Darlene

Why do you feel this was the best performance out of all these videos? I liked her delivery and the overall feel

What was honest and real about the performance?   You could see that she was really saddened about the state of the world

How do you feel this actor did a good job with the character?

I feel Kasey brought herself into this character and expressed herself genuinely

Which monologue video do you feel was the best? I'd say the best monologue video was "Before You Punch Me" monologue  performed by Micah J. Oliver

Why do you feel this was the best performance out of all these videos? His performance was enjoyable and filled with emotion

What was honest and real about the performance? It seemed truthful that he was actually arguing with someone else

How do you feel this actor did a good job with the character?

He seemed enthusiastic and also passionate about the woman the character was talking about

Watch a movie or see a play and pick an actor who you think was really good. What actor did you believe was "real"? 

I am choosing the movie the fighter starting Mark Wahlberg, to me the stand out actor was Christian Bale as Dicky Eklund . The relationships and arguments that take place between Mickey, Dicky, their mother, her seven daughters, George Ward (Jack McGee), Charlene, and Mickey O'Keefe (as himself) are really the heart behind all the boxing that takes place. Christian Bale gave a performance that reminded his fans just how talented he can actually is. His performance seems to leave little of himself as everything about was different, his accent, his mannerisms and his seemingly sick drug addict scenes were amazing.

"Why do you want to be an actor?" Day One

   Thinking about this an answer to this question I had to reflect It’s really hard to explain because I really do love being an actor. I get to go into a story and get to be someone else or tap into different emotions, that can take you to different places. Acting pulls out your true self and I get to enjoy that feeling like a child playing dress up. I would like to be an actor like Tom Hardy or Idris Elba where I could move through various genres but still be able to do great drama
