Youāve heard me go on and on before about little tips for how to keep video chatting fun. Although we hate to admit it, just talking day in and day out might get boring. There are surprisingly lots of way to keep Skype interesting. Like:
Let your Significant Other join in on activities by bringing them in on video chat! Lots of times, either with my family/friends or even by myself, Iāll put Pedro on Skype and have himĀ ājoinā me. It could be things from a family gathering, to cooking, to you doing your hobbies. Iām really into crafting, so if Iām making something sometimes Iāll chat with Pedro while making it!
Bring in Other People to join your conversations! My family loves loves loves talking to Pedro. Even my 3 year old nephew loves talking to him on video chat! This obviously brings up more things to talk about, which is entertaining for all of you! *I know language barriers may be an issue for some, but just translate!* My Portuguese is no where near fluent yet, but I still manage to talk to Pedroās family when I can! It really isnāt as awkward as you probably think either!*
Watch TV shows/ Movies/ Videos together! I highly recommend the website Ā ā rabb.itĀ ā to watch things together! It works amazingly!! If for some reason you canāt try sharing your screen on Skype!Ā
Tell each other about your day! Iāve gotten some messages of people saying they donāt think they have anything interesting to talk about! Just talking about your day is a great start! I promise you, your Long Distance SO wishes so bad they could experience your day with you, so Iām sure theyād love to hear about it since they canāt! It gives that feeling of being closer as well.
Find games you BOTH enjoy! Pedro and I arenāt very into video games, so we play games like trivia (sporcle.com), Would You Rather, Hangman, Mad Gab, Hedbanz (guessing what noun is on your head/what noun has been assigned to you) And NONE of these games require being together in person!! Thats what is so cool about them!! Plus there are other board games you can download in the app store.
Surfing the Web at the same time!Ā Pedro and I actually do this a lot. Iāll go on Tumblr or something and he will go on 9gag or Facebook and we will send each other funny/cool things we find! They usually spark lots of conversation.
There are a ton of things you can do together via video chat! Donāt limit yourself to just talking! Also, donāt limit yourself to what you talk about! Donāt be afraid to open up. All of the activities I listed are just the basics for what you can do! Have fun!!Ā
