Mad Men’s Betty Draper has spent every day recovering from the quiet trauma of her deeply unfulfilling life. Here’s why we should celebrate her. Spoilers below.

For Betty, the phrase, “I’m not hungry” doubled as a desperate, subconscious plea for attention — a way of disciplining her body and others. When she forces Bobby to eat his candy, she’s punishing him for his love, his vulnerability, his eagerness to please. Betty used to have those qualities herself, but they were rewarded with duplicitousness and deceit. It’s no wonder she wants to cure her children of them, however painfully.

Pat Cassels and I wrote this sketch about the new season of House of Cards. It imagines that the entire third season is all about Frank trying to become President of the Galaxy, and it is filled with every stupid sci-fi/space specific we could think of.

I had a lot of fun writing this, but sadly, it was never greenlit. Maybe because it calls for a bunch of aliens and is about twice as long as our usual sketches. Anyway, the new season of House of Cards is released today, so it seemed like my last chance to share this with anyone.
