9/29 West Hollywood Book Fair

For its 12th edition, the West Hollywood Book Fair presents 12 outdoor stages and indoor venues showcasing literature, art, music and performances.

Participating authors include T.C. Boyle, Debbie Reynolds, William Friedkin, Lynda Obst, Victoria Chang, Aaron Hartzler, D.H. Pelligro and Veronica Reyes. Following its successful debut last year, the Culinary Pavilion will return with award-winning chefs sharing stories, recipes and tips.

L.A. photographer, Allison Davidson shows nostalgia at its best.  Her work, Moving America, captures Davidson’s drawing interest to our countries past. 

"There’s a comfort found in capturing the charm, grit, and raw character of America. Whether it’s off a dirt road in East Texas, a ghost town in the Sierras, or an abandoned motel on Sunset Boulevard, these places quietly call out to be remembered." 

Davidson urges for us all to slow down long enough to find the beauty in the abandoned, for out of all these mundane places, they are the ones that Davidson feels are most complicated, but beautiful of all.

The Los Angeles Times has just laid off its only staff reporter dedicated to covering art. Museum directors across Southern California wrote this letter to the editor of the newspaper in protest. Sign the petition to insist that the paper restores the art reporter position.

Homegrown music festival, Viva! Pomona, hits the city Saturday, July 27! The line-up boasts over 25 acts performing on two stages including, Allah-Las, Milk Music, The Lovely Bad Things, and more. Festival producers have hinted at a new website coming very soon. My school Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA is hosting its first-ever film festival this Saturday, March 16th. Highlights include Q&A/lectures with Zack Snyder (Art Center alum, Man of Steel and 300 director), Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine, Ruby Sparks) and Matthew Rolston (Rolling Stone photographer/music video director); as well as cool sponsor tables including one that’ll let you shoot an experimental Super 8 film!
