clearly the people responsible for scheduling the nohecharei have never watched three men and a baby....everyone knows you need at least three shifts for round-the-clock babysitting. three pairs of nohecharei and a zhas more like
IKR?!!! Like, there is no shift pattern involving you working half the time that isn't absolutely brutal and takes a massive toll on you mentally.
The only way I can think it would work is if the night shift is really "one watching while the other sleeps in place". After all, there are also multiple layers of guards in between the outside world and the nohecharei.
(There are 168 hours in a week, so you really need four people/groups to provide 24-hour coverage while working a sensible 44-hour week.)
Also, who covers for them if any of them get hurt or get sick? Terrible planning, truly.
like what would they have done if beshelar had been seriously injured by tethimar?? it's part of the job description to get injured if necessary...really seems like there should be a contingency plan...
also i lost it when kiru said she could keep doing her cleric thing in her off hours. WHAT OFF HOURS??? how does she have time for anything except working and sleeping?
This is all very valid, but also recall they live in a household with maids and cooks, etc. 12 hrs on, 4 hours off, 8 hours asleep (assuming elves need a full 8 hrs) is somewhat easier to handle when you are not cooking, cleaning or dealing with errands. It wouldn't be 4 hours of pure leisure, but likely better than it initially sounds (aka "impossible").
The complete lack of any time off beyond that is brutal though. OTOH, it's not like Maia gets a vacation from emperor-hood either. One assumes that quiet days when he stays within the Almacet are markedly less stressful.
