Brandon Sanderson has taken  preparations in case of the worst

Brandon Sanderson revealed the following in case of the worst possible scenario - his premature “departure” and what is gonna to happen then with The Stromlight Archive series.

“On one hand, I’m 41, with a good 30 years of books to write. And anyone will be nervous confronting their mortality.

 On the other hand, I had the experience working on the WOT to accustom me to these sorts of ideas. I have a good team in place, and am an outliner. I could, and will, have things in place so near finished series can be finished by someone else for the fans.

 I am looking at getting a really good outline for books 6-10 of Stormlight ready. That would kind of be my cutoff, I think. If I got sick with a terminal disease tomorrow, my instructions would be for my team to release the notes. 7 out of 10 books are just too many to release posthumously. But 5 would probably work, on the extreme edge. 

Better that none have to, but I would rather know something is in place. “

With all the recent talk about adapting WOT, I have ideas.

They’re just ideas. I’m hardly qualified to assess what the best approach to adapting WOT would be. I don’t watch many SF/F TV shows, and all the SF/F adaptations I’ve seen have been films.

I mean, I’d like 20 episodes per season, and for those episodes to be at least an hour long. But regardless of whether or not that would be feasible, I don’t know if that would be the best route to making an engaging and successful series…

So, ideally I want an adaptation that is true to the series in terms of plot, worldbuilding, tone and characters. An adaptation which streamlines and abridges the story but doesn’t deviate radically from the books. An adaptation in which the actors cast both look the part and can act the part. But I recognise that I’m unlikely to get everything I’d want.

I think I’d prefer:

an adaptation that is successful and respected (and thus recommends the books to others) than an adaptation that does absolutely everything I want.

an adaptation with high production values (strong acting, good pacing, epic soundtrack and scenery, effective special effects) that tells a clear and compelling story than a lacklustre production that is pedantically faithful to the books.

I'm sorry, but am I crazy? Am I the only one that feels like the first book should have a season of its own? I think it's important to establish the characters and world, and go through the quest to the eye of the world meticulously. I think this would do huge favors for the new audience and would pay in dividends towards later seasons.

It's not practical, but I'd like to see that.

I've been reading through Brandon Sanderson's FAQ on his website and apparently the last three books were all called A Memory Of Light but each one with a subtitle. A Memory Of Light: Gathering Clouds A Memory Of Light: Shifting Winds A Memory Of Light: The Last Battle I don't know about you, but I prefer these over the ones we got.

Upon listening to this song for hundreds of times, I've come to conclusion that it is by far my favorite Opeth song. It is Mikael's most haunting vocal performance, if not his most emotional. Misery leaks in every word, and lingers in the listener's head long past the runtime. A funeral of a song, a celebration of a song. "Asleep in the rain. A child once again. And the ghost in my head Has forgiven me, ..Lifted his curse upon me."
