The Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge upgraded from 339 books to 408 (including those mentioned in the Netflix special, A Year in the Life)
Over the course of 7 seasons and a Netflix special, Rory Gilmore was seen reading 408 books on screen. How many have you read?
girls in catholic school studying the saints. girls pouring over pages in libraries, reading about st catherine and st monica and st clare, being drawn in by their grace, poise, and kindness. girls composing sonnets for st cecelia, the patron saint of music, girls exchanging roses in honor of st elizabeth, girls falling in love with the beautiful joan of arc and weeping for her tragic fate.

create art for the sake of creating art, create art without caring about how beautiful it is, how perfect it flows. art is art. and all art is glorious. if it's rough around the edges, who cares. you might not be the next picasso, the next shakespeare, and that's alright. if you're enjoying creating art. create art for yourself. create art for art.
Darkly academic research ideas for your time indoors (because you're not a heathen):
The lives of great classical composers.
Ancient Egypt's social hierarchy and attitudes towards women, homosexuality etc.
Poisons.
The tea trade, and how it became so important to British culture.
18th century fashion and the production of clothing.
How corsets aren't the terrible patriarchal torture devices everyone thinks they are.
The use of recreational drugs in the late 19th century.
The French revolution.
Methods of forensic investigation at crime scenes.
Controversy in psychological studies.
Matriarchal societies.
How nostalgia influences fashion, media, and literature.
The nature versus nurture argument.
The history of trains and railroads.
Symbolism in art.
Just a few research rabbit holes to throw yourself into if you're bored. :)
🕯 Witchy Academia 🕯
candles are lit all around you, sometimes you know who lit them, sometimes you don’t, old grimoires stacked around your room gathering dust, clippings of your favorite spells pinned up, diagrams of plants and their properties inked in black in your book of shadows, stacked teacups with already read tea leaves, tracing the lines on your friend/lover’s palm and secretly interpreting the meanings, forming incantations with the stars and planets, whispering to the plants on your windowsill before bed, piercings and stacked silver rings that catch the moonlight just right, studying the history of witchcraft instead of studying for class, divining from the steam of your coffee at your favorite coffee shop, walking through the fog with ease, lipstick the color of coagulated blood, black eyeliner, smudged sigils up and down your arms under long sleeves, carrying crystals in your book bag

Some random advice for people who just got into dark academia, because I know this can be really overwhelming, and it’s hard to know where to start.
Watch a few movies with this aesthetic, this is a great way to become more familiar with the aesthetic. (Favourites of mine include dead poet’s society, kill your darlings and The dreamers.)
Become familiar with different types of academia. (Dark academia is the more famous one, but there’s also light, chaotic, witch, cottage, theater and many others.)
Make a playlist. There’s lots online, but make sure you actually enjoy listening to the songs.
This is something that helped me a lot: pick a subject you know little about and read an introductory book on it. (For me, it was philosophy, and I chose Russel’s “the history of western philosophy”)
Become familiar with different authors. If you don’t feel like reading entire books, look for passages by Oscar Wilde, Scott Fitzgerald, Homer, and any other you feel curious about.
There are some books that embody the aesthetic very well. Those include If we were villains, the secret history, the picture of Dorian Gray, and many others. There is a list on Goodreads of the top 95 da books, and you’re sure to find something interesting in there.
Make use of your surroundings. If you live somewhere with lots of museums, visit them!! If there’s a nice library close by, use it!!if you feel like no one gets what you are going through, or like you have nowhere to go and exploit your interests, fear not, for you are simply a missunderstood academic!!
If you found this post, chances are you’re on tumblr. If so, great!! There are so many blogs with dark academia aesthetic, and those are great for inspiration. My faves are @greeksblog and @wine-stained-dawn
Feel free to contact me if you want to talk, and remember: PURSUE KNOWLEDGE.

Tarot
Let's talk about tarot! This is a fun one, and a form of divination I'm still improving myself (though to me, we are always working to improve, no matter how good we may be at something).
What is Tarot?
Tarot is a form of divination that falls under cartomancy, the practice of divination using cards. There are more types of divination cards, but we'll worry about those later.
There are four suits: pentacles (earth), wands (fire), swords (air), and cups (water). There is also the major arcana, which hold the famous cards such as Death, The Devil, The Hanged Man that we so often see twisted in media. Personally, I like associating the major arcana with the fifth element of spirit, as the arcana mainly deal with large events or turning points in one's life, and they can dig into your core.
The Heart of the Cards:
Not sorry, I had to use Yu gi oh, but I'm gonna go over the meanings and purposes of each suit, starting with the major arcana:
The Major Arcana- this is a suit of 22 cards out of 78 total. They are also called trumps (gross) and represent ones life journey. It starts with The Fool, representing beginnings and innocence, and ends with The World, which represents unity, harmony, balance, perfection. It is the ideal end of life, to be connected to the world around you and feel one with it. Use the major arcana as a guide for your life, use this suit as little mirrors who show you what you need to work on for your ideal end and what you've accomplished so far.
The Minor Arcana:
There are 56 minor arcana cards, split up into the suits mentioned above, which have 14 cards in each suit. Each suit details more in depth what they represent than the major arcana, which give you general advices and reflections of yourself. These suits all have different meanings, and I'll briefly discuss each one.
Cups are the suit of water, which mainly discuss and dive deeper into ones feelings and relationships. They promote feeling with your full heart, no matter what that emotion may be. Cups are a receptive suit and highly spiritual, as they are the suit that looks you in the eye and details your heart, no matter how uncomfortable you may feel with it, but thats tarot baby, the cards are blunt.
Wands are the suit of fire, dealing mainly with ones passions, creativity, as well as desire and will. This suit is physical, meaning it details more what you physically feel, rather than in your heart and emotions. They are the spark that will scream at you to get your shit together, to start creating, and to let your passions guide you.
Swords are the suit of air, representing logic, intellectual pursuits, and making strides in the spirit world. This suit details more of the steps and a rough outline of a plan for you to choose to follow. Swords will take you by the hand, a little roughly, and point out healthy, logical steps that follow a plan best for you. It's up to you to work with the cards however, they offer so much, and its up to us to meet them halfway to reap their benefits (so put in the work they tell you to do).
Pentacles are the suit of earth. They represent worldly, material things such as the body, money, sensuality. Like cups, this suit is receptive and details how one can connect with themselves and the world around them. This suit will grab your ankles to ground you and guide your inner self to harmony and completion. You can also find paths for manifesting within these cards (depending on your intent and/or spread), and balancing yourself and your environment.
How Do You Use Tarot?
Using tarot cards is highly customizable, to the point where it can be overwhelming. For spreads, the arrangement of your cards and the order you draw them in, can range from numbers 1-10+ the most cards I've used in a spread is 15.
Tarot cards are tools to build relationships with, as they will show you answers to questions you can't find or reveal parts of yourself you couldn't unveil alone. They help and they serve, so they deserve respect, tell them thank you when you are done with them, and store them comfortably, as you would want to be tucked into bed (boxes and bags to place in drawers or on altars I've found are easiest for storage).
I have a ritual for building my relationships with divination tools that I'll share, and hopefully it'll help you! For the first week I receive my tool, in this case deck, I keep it on my person constantly, whether that's keeping my deck under my pillow while I sleep or in my bag as I'm out and about, this is for the deck to get used to me so I can receive more personable readings. After that week, I build up the detail and intensity of my intent and number of cards I use.
For example, my first few readings, I'll ask questions like, "How can I better my communication skills?" It's simple, yet intrinsic enough to continue building a bond; as I go on with more readings, I will begin asking questions such as: "What is the root cause(s) for my insecurities?" This reading will dive deep into my psyche and unearth answers I won't be comfortable with, but that's tarot (making tarot a great tool for shadow work! But that's a later post). This intention is more in depth and asks more from the cards.
Intention is very important, and in my opinion better to start building up and getting used to first before you start worrying about detailed, complex spreads. Worry about drawing as many cards as you feel is right and placing them in a line, then once your comfy with your cards and how they work, spice up your readings with spreads.
Tarot Spreads
Spreads are the format of the cards, they can guide the order you draw your cards, as well as acting as a physical support for your intention. For example, there are multiple three card spreads, some even with the classic three in a horizontal line, one may be called Past, Present, Future spread, which is drawn left to right, while another draws from the middle first and is a relationship spread. Here are some examples of spreads, courtesy of Golden Thread Tarot, which is a free app I highly reccomend.
This is a Work Problems spread, meant to help you understand why you're facing the problems you're facing at your job, and possibly how to begin solving them.
When you come across a spread with a horizontal, or as I call, neutral card, that will either be the last or first card you draw, and the card where I personally let both upright and reversed meanings of the card guide me.
This spread is a Compatibility Spread, detailing the connection (or lack of) between you and another person, covering the emotional and practical aspects of the compatability.
Cautions of Tarot
Really, mainly you just need to respect and trust your deck, your cards know you, probably better than yourself, and will be glad to roast you whenever. Be sure to keep respect by saying thank you after every reading and storing them somewhere safe.
Without giving respect, you will not receive respect and your deck will render itself useless, breaking the connection between you and having poor readings, as in the cards will be irrelevant and distant.
I hope this little guide helps, and here's a couple links for further research! Tarot is fascinating and such a great part of my practice, I truly couldn't make as many strides in my craft and religion without them.
A huge help in my early days of learning tarot were the apps by Labyrinthos Academy, these apps are called: Labyrinthos Tarot, Golden Thread Tarot, and Luminous Spirit Tarot. They also have a Lenormand app for those of you who know and use Lenormand cards (for another time).
Here are the links:
Some interesting references in wiki for this one, and wiki always provides a nice jumping point for research!

This site is really nice in that it goes over every single meaning of every single card, tells you the keywords, and even gives possible meanings for why certain card suits may show up in your readings. It a very easy to use and in depth site. Good luck, have fun, and be safe!
Blessed Be!

studying tips for ex-gifted kid academics :)
Just thought I’d share some of my personal tricks to make studying easier and efficient;
• Planning one week ahead
It’s super important to stay ahead of schedule, especially in university, so organize your planner as efficiently as possible and make sure you stay on top of your assignements and readings
•Sticky notes
Write down key aspects or vocabulary, whatever it is you need to memorise, on sticky notes and put them in your textbooks. This will highlight the main ideas and make it easier to retain information.
•Find a study cycle that works with you and stick to it
Personnally, studying in 20/10 minutes cycles work best for my attention span. Other popular cycles include studying for 40min/break for 15, or studying for 15min/break for 5min. However any tempo that suits you is what you should try to keep. I try to aim for at least 6 cycles daily (add up to about 2 hours of actual studying)
• Summarizing
After each class, try to mentally go through what you learned and write it out on a piece of paper. This will help you train your memory and help you retain information easier. Also try to make recap sheets for your classes and put them at the beginning of your notebook/textbook.
• Keep in mind your goals
Keeping in mind your long-term and short-term goals will really motivate you to do your best and study more.
•Don’t overwork yourself
Now,I know that time can pass really quickly once you actually get down to work, however, overworking will cause more harm than good. Please do take breaks, keep hydrated and do things that you enjoy, otherwise you will very likely experience a burn-out.
• Music
Finding a playlist, podcast or background music that you can work to will both make you more efficient and definitely more focused. I personnally recommend classical music or cafe/library asmr or lo-fi beats (I find that music with lyrics end up distracting me when i study)
That was it, feel free to comment if you have any other tips!
