i watched one (1) video on how to draw hands that changed my life forever. like. i can suddenly draw hands again
these were all drawn without reference btw. i can just. Understand Hands now (for the most part, im sure theres definitely inaccuracies). im a little baffled
i don't like to yuck people's yum but i have to say that my least favorite thing to come from the current state of Artists on the Internet is the idea of a sketchbook as something nice and pretty and shareable. like i love me a notebook full of gorgeous art don't get me wrong but that is NOT what a sketchbook is. a sketchbook is my friend who i carry around everywhere like a purse chihuahua. it is the physical manifestation of my notes app. it is the container into which i wring my brain out. it is my therapist. and most of all it is filled with absolutely terrible sketches that should never see the light of day.
this post is making the rounds again and the amount of people saying that the pretty sketchbooks phenomenon ruined sketchbooks for them is HEARTBREAKING and i stand by my opinion that sketchbooks should be like a jar you put your OCs in. and then you shake them around in there. that's what they're for
You wouldnāt think it while that gigantic sword is swinging at you. But the glowing beads wrapped at the end of the sword glow the same color as the staff, that the other plant girl wields.
Finally getting back into sketching. Wanted to show you all what a few pages in the journal looks like. The roughest of all sketchās ever. As I try to learn how to draw bodies and proportions and poses. Itās a process. I am proud of the sketchās on the very last page. It felt good to make a page to feel proud of after all of the failures before it. But I wanted to show you those failures too. For failures are just as beautiful.
After some layers of white acrylic paint, I thought I could still see the previous attempt.
Used some of this texture medium and more white acrylic paint. This will be the first time Iāve attempted to prime a canvas with this mixture. Iām excited to see the final results with this painting. Hereās to a new year and new attempts!
Finally trying the oval canvas again! Might add more layers of white to hide all of the past painting. Gonna try to make a mermaid for this painting this time around.
I used to be so afraid of using stickers. I was worried I would put them on the wrong thing or Iād use the thing up and the stickers would be lost with it or theyād be wasted or Iād change my mind.
I started putting stickers on everything. My laptop. My journals. My window. My pill cases. I am using them up and I am enjoying them and they make me happy. Happiness does not have to be eternal to be worth seeking.
I feel like this is my favorite drawing on the internet. Iām not sure why, since Iām not an art or painting expert. And this is nothing like the cartoon shows I like to watch or the comics I like to read. It is its own thing, made by someone I donāt know. But that was enough.
It feels quiet. Soothing, but at the same time lonely. The mermaid is sitting, by herself, with no background. It doesnāt seem like sheās underwaterābut she could be! Her expression isnāt sad, or happy, but it seems a bit curious to be looking behind her back. But not because she heard a loud noise, or else she wouldnāt be so calmly hugging herself while glancing back. A rare moment where all emotions are balanced and you donāt feel too much or too little of anything.
There are tattoos on her arms, but nothing too mystical or intricate. Almost as if someone took a sharpie and merely doodled on her skin to pass the time: A sun, a kitten, a cloud bearing a face as if ready to blow a gust of wind, and what looked like an apple at first, but after taking a good look, it appears to be a big firefly. They are very simple, but because of it, it reminds me of the times I would pass the time making small drawings at the edges of my notebook during class.
More importantly, they are an indication that someone else drew them. She couldnāt have done it herself. Probably made by a friend. And how happy I am that this Lady has a friend. Everyone deserves a friend. And because there is a kitten, maybe someone from land?
Also, her tail. Or more specifically: her scales. They are beautiful, colorful, with seemingly no pattern(?). It calls for your attention first, unique like portuguese tiles Iāve seen before with their bluish hues. I love it. Because for once, instead of the tip of the tail being the center of attention on a mermaid, her scales of aquatic nature are the ones making a show. And sure, this mustnāt be the first occurrence of and artist doing as such. But it sure is the first that left such an impression on me.
And Iām not sure about this last paragraph, butā¦
There are a few singular scales highlighted in black. At first I thought: Ok, nicely done by the artist. And that was it. But after looking at it for so long, thinking of the tattoos, and her looking back in quiet patienceā¦ I thought that maybe, what ifā¦
The Lakey Lady was sitting down with a friend, they were sharing a conversation, her company with a pen in their hands. Maybe to draw things as they explain things from over the surface. And they are sharing stories, drawing on each otherās arms, with no thought of how to wash it out later as kids tend to do when having fun. Then her friend is in front of her and draws over her tail, tracing the natural patterns of the scales, until the moment it runs out of ink. āIāll go get another one! Be right back,ā they say. And now sheās just calmly waiting while looking back to where her friend had went.
