Grace who never fully recovers from his amnesia. Grace who barely even realises how much is missing until one day he finds that he doesn't know the name of his street, where he went to college, of he had any friends before the vat. Grace who has a hundred titles but feels like all of them are fitted to somebody more, a few sizes too big for the sum of his parts. Grace who is left picking through his spare belongings and recovered memories trying to cobble his early life together through context clues. Grace who is, in his own mind, completely defined by his work of the project. Grace who has left earth and everyone who knew him and can never ask who he used to be. Grace who, despite all of this, has not been given a clean slate. Grace who can't remember his mother's name, but knows that he is a coward.
