i’ve been thinking about the new carrie adaptation again and honestly i want to kill peole. like it's 2026, we had many shows and movies and cartoons adding fat people taht weren't only jokes those past few years so we had the chance to finally give novel carrie (a fat "ugly" girl) the screen time she deserves but instead we’re getting another conventionally attractive skinny girl because god forbid an audience has to look at someone who isn't a bombshell for five seconds. it’s the same "she's a mess" trope where they just put a pretty girl in a bad outfit and call it a day. and i know people will jump in with "well skinny girls get bullied too" and yeah no kidding but we already have a million movies about that. i’m so tired of the industry being terrified of a protagonist who is actually fat and actually covered in acne and actually "ugly" by societal standards because heaven forbid we have to sympathize with someone who doesn't fit into a neat little box.

growing up as a fat bullied girl means that book carrie was everything to me and seeing her constantly stripped of her physical reality feels like a personal insult at this point. even if you want to argue about "beauty standards of the seventies so maybe she wasn't fat but she was just a bit more curvy" the text is right there. she has weight on her and she has acne and she's frumpy. by making her "hollywood ugly" they’re completely missing the point of why her story is a tragedy. it’s easy to feel bad for a beautiful girl who’s just a little shy but it’s a lot harder for a general audience to look at a fat weird girl and acknowledge her humanity and that's exactly why the story needs to be told that way

and i just know they’re going to make her a perfect little angel again because they’re too scared of her actual personality. in the book carrie is genuinely spiteful even before the prom scene (when we see her inner thoughts she has violent fantasies about hurting her bullies iirc amongst other moments) because being bullied for years doesn't turn you into a saint it turns you into someone with a lot of repressed rage. she’s a sweetheart deep down sure but she’s also weird and difficult. the whole point is that she’s an unconventional victim. she isn't "relatable" to the people who would have been her bullies and that’s what makes the prom scene so visceral

i’m just so genuinely mad that we are losing another fat girl.

Truly I hate to do this to you all but; you can watch all the videos and read all the blogs in the world but you cannot learn to sew without at some point picking up a piece of fabric and fucking it up. No tutorial exists that will stop you at some point ruining this poor piece of cloth. The visceral act of holding a project and wondering where you went wrong is the only way to learn sewing; you cannot escape it. I’m sorry

Thinking of an open world adventure game where you make your character, you receive your quest from the shady, wizened old man in the tavern, and then it is completely up to you to figure out how to finish the quest.

There's no direction to point you where to go. You don't get a map unless you find one. And this is very important, there is no log or journal to remind you about what you've already done or need to do or keeps track of clues you've found.

If you find a clue that tells you that you need to go to Snake Mountain then you need to remember to go to Snake Mountain by yourself or write it down irl. If you quit the game and come back the next day and forget where you're supposed to be going, tough luck, unless you want to go back to find that clue. Can't remember that NPC's name you needed to talk to? Got sidetracked by a side quest and ended up on the other side of the map with no way to quick travel back to where you were? Oopsy daisy.

The map works as a real map that can only tell you where things are. It doesn't show you where you are, if you're pointing in the right direction, nothing. You get a compass and whatever names are on the map and the signage you find on your way to guide you anywhere.

I then pulled out my phone and fact checked them and guess what??? The answer AI gave them was WRONG! They then asked me MY source to which I showed them and told them that I am a librarian and that they should always fact check for themselves because so often ai is wrong because it doesn't actually give a real answer, it just spits out something that sounds correct from the info its been fed which is so easy to manipulate.

And I saw the light kinda die in her eyes as I explained all this and then my appointment was over. So chalk this one up as a win for the ai hater community!

OKAY BUT I NEED TO KNOW SOMETHING!

Long story short, my sister and i ended up in a deep dive on IMDB for Jeff Bennett. Who if you didn't know is basically one of those voice actors who has been around forever. Iconic roles include Johnny Bravo, Kowalski from Penguins of Madagascar, and Petrie from Land Before Time.

And while scrolling through his EXTENSIVE credits I realized that he was a voice actor in all of the previous Baldur's Gate games including the original Baldur's Gate from 1998. He was in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Dark Alliance II.

BUT NOT Baldur's Gate III and I just need to know for my own sanity if he was at all approached to be in it, if schedules didn't line up, did he not want to do it, was he snubbed? Partly because I'm just really nosy but also HE WAS IN ALL THE OTHERS! WHY NOT THE NEWEST ONE!!????

Like many people who love Stardew Valley I made an entire backstory for my farmers. My longest/first file is a farmer named Magnolia with dark brownish red hair and amber colored eyes. She's married to Sam and has two kids named Basil and Zinnia. (There is a mod in play in this scenario where Sam is a trans man and this will come up later just an fyi)

Now despite this being a solo file, in my head there's an entire other narrative at play where Mags has two friends that came to Pelican Town with her. They were all working at Joja and then one day she's like "fuck this" pulls out the grandpa letter and learns she has a farm. Immediately tells her two work friends and they all leave together to go live their cottage core life on this farm. Her friends are Alistair and Elektra. Alistair is a gay man and was working in accounting at Joja. Elektra is a trans lesbian with a political science degree but had trouble finding work so was actually working at Joja as a janitor. (minor detail but in my head Joja refused to acknowledge Elektra's name change so her deadname was on her coveralls and she covered it by using duct tape and marker for her real name.)

Upon arriving in Pelican Town Elektra immediately forms a crush on Maru and Alistair is causing all kinds of gay panic within Alex. Magnolia kinda has a crush on Sam but she is the last person to know despite Sam being VERY obvious about his own crush on her.

For backstory Mags used to come to Pelican Town to visit her grandpa when she was little and was friends with Sam. Sam was actually really shy as a kid and Mags being a couple years older than him was more outgoing and brought him out of his shell. They had actually buried a time capsule on her grandpa’s farm that they promised to dig up when they were adults. Everything was going well until one summer Sam and Mags were playing by the ocean and Sam’s bucket got blown into the sea so Mags went to get it and started getting pulled out into the ocean by the tide. Sam ran to Willy who dove in to grab her and bring her back. Mags’ parents were horrified that their daughter almost drowned on what was supposed to be her grandpa’s watch and stated they were never bringing her back again. Mags didn’t want to leave but her grandpa told her she had to go with her parents, they knew best after all. Her goodbye to Sam was heartbreaking since they were both crying, Sam most of all. Sam retreated more into his shell and it alerted Abigail and Sebastian who decided to bring him into their fold now that Mags was gone.

Sam doesn’t really remember much about those summers now as an adult outside of he had an older friend who he played with a lot. His memory has him misremembering Mags as a boy cause she was full tomboy at that age and had super short hair and he only knew her as Mags not Magnolia. And when he transitioned (see mod mention) he ended up basing a lot of his personality on Mags cause he thought she was this cool older boy. Because of all this he doesn’t immediately recognize her when she returns to Pelican Town.

So Mags and Sam are having this really cute and awkward slow burn friends to lovers romance but in the background running parallel to all this is Elektra and Alistair realizing how corrupt Lewis is and uncovering all his unethical and straight up illegal activities and working on a master plan to run him out of town. Alistair is finding accounts that don't add up and realizes he's been embezzling tax money to make a gold statue of himself instead of keeping up with town renovations. Elektra is the political science whiz so is constantly pointing out all the shady shit he does and sowing doubt with the townsfolk while also endearing them to her because she's naturally super charismatic. They're also having their romances but they're pretty focused on the mayor Lewis takedown. Elektra then becomes the new mayor!
