Even this did not cause the man to stumble or falter. He strode forward with such confidence. Jaeha quite liked the determined look in his gaze.

“I doubt it,” the man responded. “You don’t seem like the type.”

“What’s the type of a serial killer?” Jaeha wondered.

“Ugly.”

“Oh.” And then he lit up. “Oh. You think I’m handsome, then?”

“I didn’t say that.”

AkaYona daily affirmation #7: Kija is a fantastic character and I love him to death

Like, okay. He's far more static than the other characters, but even he grows and changes. Further, the audience's perception of him changes over time, too. He seems relatively straightforward and a little dumb when you first meet him (said affectionately). He's only expanded on and developed later, not by forcing him to change, but by developing the why behind his loyalty and dedication. Jaeha calls him a tragic puppet when the first meet, but he eats and takes back those words when he learns of Kija's backstory.

Maybe Kija got lucky in comparison, being born into the best of the dragon villages, but even he wasn't untouched by the misfortune that affects the dragon warriors, the pain they inherit and the short lives they're condemned to. Kija was aware of this pain for the moment he was born, and he carries it with him. But he doesn't let it weigh him down; he turns a curse into a blessing, a weight into his strength.

Even in the final arcs where he's going through the meat grinder along with everyone else, it doesn't dim his perpetual enthusiasm, strong will, and love for his friends.

He's always such a bright spot in canon, he's really wonderful <3
