Laser engraved and cut green fluor acrylic Hayley. Third and last in the typography series, 3 of 3. One for each faction in the series obviously, so a Shaper was needed as well. The original plan was for a Smoke, but that idea is moving in a more illustration direction, so Hayley it was, as she is easily the other most played Shaper ID. Fun detail; the flavor text on the bottom is from Hyperdriver, one of only two cards that has a Hayley quote. It fit the concept well enough that I wanted it in there, especially as the font I found for her subtitle really appeals to me.
Laser engraved and cut aqua blue Steve Cambridge. Or Lyle Nether Wallop. Or Barry Milton Keynes. Or Sebastian On-Trent.* Second in the typography series, 2 of 3. * The UK Netrunners give our Criminal friend here all kinds of silly nicknames, as he truly has one of the most generic names imaginable. This design practically made itself. Made up some fake names on my own, then sourced the rest (some real gems in there, thanks to all contributors) from the UK community.
Laser engraved and cut orange acrylic Maxx. First of of a set of mainly typographically designed Runner ID’s, 1 of 3. Maxx is easily one of my favorite ID’s runner side. The speed that she offers is almost unrivaled and makes many other runners feels sluggish in comparison. The acrylic used here was a pleasure to work with; with a little chemical after treatment it almost seems to glow.
Yellow fluor acrylic CTM, laser engraved and cut. Quite pleased with this piece; it turned out well and is the first acrylic piece of mine that I fully stand behind.
The Hard Hitting News reference is quite subtle, so doesn't come across all the time, but this is fine. The piece works well enough and still looks quite dynamic without immediately getting the reference. It was lightly chemically treated afterward to get the very clear looking end result.
Also; NBN is my Corp faction for life, so this makes the piece extra pleasing to me.
(Almost) Full art of the Turning Wheel reinterpretation. This has been printed as a playmat for the winners of the event (Berlin KOS). Card version pictured for reference and sense of scale. Also shows the difference in colour quite well, which is one the areas where the piece could use some improvement in my own opinion. Still, it’s gratifying to realize there are playmats out there in the world with work of mine pictured on them.
The Turning Wheel. A commission for a befriended TO from Berlin. Part of a larger piece which was used for playmats.
I sure let this little blog get buried by daily life. Not to give the idea that nothing was happening on the Netrunner front, on the contrary; a Nationals was held, Euros was visited (and new one coming up) plus lots of things were made. Speaking of making things; productivity is at an all time high. I’ll update this place with all the work since the latest set of posts in the coming days. First; an older, but still relevant piece: The third and completing last piece of the neutral “black ice” set. Again, the same style; dark, clean and striking, with a bit of a nostalgic vibe to the depictions of cyberspace from the ‘80s and early ‘90s. Some synthwave influence. Quite satisfied with how this one turned out. The idea is a puzzle box of mysterious energy that the Runner encounters during his escapades on the Net.
Latest laser experiment.
One of my favorite Netrunner cards will always be the gloriously janky “Labyrinthine Servers” agenda.
Custom laser engraved and cut wooden Jinteki: Potential Unleashed. Pretty pleased with the results, as this was my first time working with a Trotec laser engraver. Lots of stock vectors and some existing old design assets of mine combined to get to this end result. With correct influence number to boot*. *The first version I lasered had 15 influence. Silly me.
First time working with acrylic. More of an experiment than a result that I’m fully pleased with, but some folks seem to have taken a liking to it. Pleased with the “clean” look, but the overall design definitely needs work. I’ll engineer a new version somewhere in the future.
Quite the departure in art style here, which is quite logical as it’s not my own work! This awesome Supplier artwork was made by the great Rachel Kremer, from the SemiCoop comic and blog. These alts feature our local friendly gaming store “Comicasa” as the titular Supplier. They were intended (and still function) as a sign of appreciation to the store; without them our meta (Enschede, in the East of the Netherlands) would not be what it is today, so an in theme thank you seemed more than appropriate. There are also huge flag versions of this artwork; one hanging in the store, the others for when the meta travels or hosts bigger events.
Another thing I made. The original rule sheet for the 1.1.1.1 alternative format for Netrunner. It was intended as an entry level format to draw new players and lower the barrier of entry for them.
For a locally developed format that we simply proposed as an option to help other (small) meta’s, this got a completely unexpected reaction. Originally the expectation was that maybe one or two other meta’s would try it out. Instead, the format has been used for events all over the world, which will never cease to amaze me. Fantasy Flight Games have launched their own officially sanctioned entry level format “Cache Refresh” now, so there isn’t much place for 1.1.1.1 any more, but I’m glad that it played the role that it did. I like to think it contributed to Cache Refresh a bit; hopefully that doesn’t come off too arrogant. Trying to stay humble here, but still enjoy the great reaction that 1.1.1.1 got :).
The second in the series. The enthusiastic reception that the Wall of Static received was quite unexpected and a welcome motivation to keep going. Again; Neutral ice, with relatively easy to understand game text, to be both useful for most players and also accessible for newcomers. Same style; dark, clean and striking, with a bit of a nostalgic vibe to the depictions of cyberspace from the ‘80s and early ‘90s. Some synthwave influence. Fun detail: There’s a little white person being sucked into the angry swirling vortex.
The first custom I ever made for Android: Netrunner. It was intended as a small incentive to draw more players to one of the first tournaments I ever organized. It mostly reuses some old material from prior graphic design work, but came out pretty satisfactory. Still happy with how clean and striking it looks.
