Desperately wanting a John Brown isekai story.
Like, so many fantasy isekai stories bump up against the concept of slavery in the setting, and all the characters treat it as perhaps unsavory, but not an institution worth fighting against, often outright buying slaves and freeing slaves in exchange for their unwavering loyalty and obedience. (So, just, buying slaves.)
I’d love an isekai story, just once, to feature a character who encounters slavery in the setting, and immediately goes “hol the fuck up” and makes their #1 priority to be the obliteration of the institution of slavery. Demon king can wait; maybe this kingdom being attacked deserves to be destroyed if it allows slavery.
Hence, I’d love a John Brown Isekai anime.
The anime starts with silhouettes against the sunset at the gallows and John Brown refusing the ministry of a man whose god would allow slavery, stepping up then quietly and with dignity, and hanging.
Jumpcut to him waking up in the arms of a big-titty elf lady.
Chicanery ensues. He speaks fondly of the woman from back home he called only “The General,” (Harriet Tubman). He’s got magic powers, but specifically ends up crafting a wizard staff that looks like a rifle. Wand that’s in the shape of a pistol.
Narrating on the possibility of being sent to do his lord’s work in yet another world. Denying the gods of this world, for he already has his own, and his duty remains unchanged.
Like, leave him genuinely actually John Brown, violent and heroic zealot on a mission from God to obliterate the institution of slavery and those who would support it.
It’d be FASCINATING and FUN.
Or at least, you know, do what I actually want, and just give me more isekai stories where the institution of slavery is either absent, or one of the things wrong with the world that the protagonist aims to fix.
