Losing my mind over how bad the skyrim furry mod makes the children look
When you're hanging out with your brother but some argonian, armed to the teeth and covered in blood, walks up to you and starts laughing before whipping out her smart phone and taking a picture of you so she can bully you on social media
I think this is the single funniest artfight rule. Like....I guess?

This is true but I'm gonna be controversial for a second and say that I feel bad for jocks who get hit with The Injury™️too. The Injury™️ fucking sucks, man. Having something that everyone praised you for when you were young suddenly betray you and having to grapple with both a sudden loss of ability (whether it's something that can be recovered from or not) and figure out what your future looks like now that the one you had imagined for yourself (whether it was actually realistic or not) feels like it's been snatched away is brutal.
Yeah, like, maybe we shouldn't be shaming/making fun of people for either of these things!
Having a thing considered core to your identity, especially if that was a thing that people raised you up to believe was your ticket to a decent life, only to have that snatched away? That’s something that causes real grief. And loss never actually goes away. You just grow around it. But you know what makes it hard to grow? Fatigue, poverty, depression, lack of stability.
You know what experiencing that kind of loss causes a lot of?

Be kind to each other. We’re all we have.

If your system doesn't account for the fact that Parents Are Going To Be Abusive/Neglectful/Insufficient then it objectively sucks I'm sorry I don't make the rules
Monitored bank accounts for those under 18. Requiring parental consent for medical procedures. Parental controls on personal devices. "We won't teach this at school because parents are supposed to address it at home." Anything that puts all of the child's power onto the parents' hand, anything that assumes parents are going to inherently do enough of a good job no one else needs to interfer, every single one of these IS going to be used by controlling, neglectful or unprepared parents and already are, and if the system did not account for that very real, tangible, dangerous tendency, then it's not worth fucking anything. You shouldn't make things "for the youth"/with children in mind if you are going to overlook this painfully common aspect of their lives u_u
When those GPS trackers for cars were released, specifically advertised for parents to put in their child's car, I saw the ad on TV and said out loud, "God... I wonder how many abusive parents and spouses are gonna use that to keep their victims from escaping."
My dad was sat next to me and his eyes got big as saucers. He was so quiet when he replied solemnly, "I didn't even think about that... jesus christ, that's dark..." and I had to tell him I had friends who were probably gonna end up in that situation with their conservative parents. He was so removed from the notion of using that device for cruelty that he didn't even CONSIDER it! That's how easily people can be bought in by inventions/legislation advertised under the guise of "keeping the kids safe". My own father, who is a beautiful and gentle man with a good head on his shoulders, was ready to advocate for a tracking device, because it was sold as a device to "protect children".
Children need more protections from abusers, yes, but the biggest protection they could possibly have is AUTONOMY. GIVE CHILDREN AUTONOMY.
the thing about art is that sometimes you'll be moved to tears by stuff that is not very good
I keep seeing a lot of stuff saying that if I don’t believe ralsei is a she/her trans woman, I must be being a terrible crypto terf who should kill themselves.
After Flowery calls Ralsei “princess,” all of Ralsei’s pronouns turn to they/them. Both in the UI and when being referenced by other characters. Admittedly I think the one character that uses pronouns for Ralsei after that point is Asgore during the sealing of the fountain, who refers to Ralsei as “they.” Might be because he doesn’t know Ralsei, but also in the entire rest of Deltarune, even with the most bizarre and inobvious creatures, everyone automatically gets pronouns right on the first try. They seem to have pronouns omniscience in DR.
So… it sucks to see during Nonbinary awareness week, a lot of people insisting that anyone who thinks Ralsei isn’t a woman, must be a super evil crypto terf.
I saw somebody say “it’s so obvious at this point and there’s no evidence to say anything other than woman, so, you’re choosing to be blindly ignorant if you think differently and should kill yourself.”
I saw people posting fanart of Ralsei in a dress and going “cute Ralsei for all the guys and girls, but mostly the girls.” …which is an oddly specific way of phrasing it for a game with a nonbinary protagonist and when Ralsei’s started being referred to by characters and the narrative as they/them.
So, for all the folks who think there’s fair evidence that Ralsei might be not a woman either… because there’s more options than just man or just woman and evidence to suggest a they/them reading, happy nonbinary awareness week. I love you and I’m sorry the wider community is so violent and cruel when it comes to the simple possibility of someone not being binary.
Undersigned, a not binary person who is very tired of seeing cute fanart of, another possible rare example of nonbinary representation in media, of which there is so little, especially not of someone transitioning to nonbinary mid narratives, and seeing those posts tell those of us who are very excited at a possible additional NB in the game, to kill ourselves, during our week.
Very true. It was hard even conceptualize how to transition to nonbinary for me because of the insistence on binary gendered thinking and lack of modelling for that kind of social script in media representation.
A lot of folks tend to really push for character presentation as a sign of binary gender, because… well, there aren’t really many things especially with regard to attire that aren’t deeply gendered by society already.
Dresses aren’t inherently feminine, and even if they somehow are, when you’re nonbinary, there’s not a special third style of dress you can pick, so you’re forced to dress yourself within the bounds of the existing framework, and just kinda gotta dress how you like and what looks good on you.
People forget this and go “gendered clothing item?! Must be gender for sure.”
Like, if a nonbinary character we know first as a woman who wore all frilly dresses had some sudden gender stuff BEGIN and she swapped to exclusively, like, pants and a button up top, there would probably be some “oh he’s a man now,” or, mercifully “oh she’s just realized she’s butch.” But nobody would probably go “oh, maybe she’s experimenting with things that Aren’t woman, because within the narrative, she’s tired of being seen as a woman, and the sting of being seen as a man hurts less than the sting of being seen as a woman, because it’s newer and novel, and comes with the silver lining of relief of, not dealing with the old, open wounds.”
Like, people don’t… they never think about the fact that nonbinary people don’t really have any really affirming options to transition TO, especially if they’re NOT naturally androgynous. But some still transition because the act is inherently queer, which IS affirming, and people having any hesitation to call them their AGAB, which is an open wound of sorts, making the transition still HELPFUL and improving morale because then at least they’re further from the thing they have years of experience disliking being.
Right, exactly. I'd rather not be treated like a man or a woman in an ideal world, but my wardrobe options usually make me lean in one direction or the other along the binary continuum people default to. Some days I pick whichever direction makes me queerer today just for the morale boost, some days I pick whichever draws the least attention just to exist and be left alone.
Hot take: There aren't other interpretations of the scene, there are only willful misinterpretation.
This interaction is clearly not meant to be mocking. Sure, Flowery is talking down at Ralsei but not in a way that I think can be truly read as malicious. Also, Ralsei isn't the kind of person who would take offense to be called a princess, so why would it be used as an insult here. (Heck, in this game, it being used as an insult doesn't fit how the world and characters seem to interact with gender. But I could even be wrong about that that doesn't matter.)
Flowery is a character meant to get under Ralsei's skin, so there's no reason to have him use an insult that wouldn't be effective on the character as we know them.
Unless, it's meant to reveal new information, and I doubt the story wants to reveal that Ralsei is secretly a misogynist so... what else would it be telling the audience about this character? a character who is defined by the prophecy as a prince and the shapes everything they do are and allow themselves to be around that? Hmmm...
Why call that character princess like it's a big drop moment? In a game with a non-binary main character and several lesbians? In the chapter where a canonical trans woman is the secret boss. Secret bosses, which usually parallel one of the core trio. Who's the only one of the core trio who hasn't gotten a boss that parallels then yet? The same character who has the most interaction and friction with the character closest to that boss over the course of the chapter.
But I'm getting off track again.
Why would you call that character a princess? Well if you were some sort of flower-man doing it during a scene where you are talking about how much they should allow themselves to be happy, be themselves without worrying about others and try living for themselves rather than following the prophecies rules then you might say it if you wanted to make sure that character knows, you know exactly who they are.
If you were a Game Dev, you might say it to make sure the members of the audience who haven't picked up on all the little hint you've been sprinkling around the game, such as the pink white and blue "princess ribbon" (Ribbons that the game often encourages you to put on a certain prince)
Among other interactions and thematic parallels.
The point is there's no way that this Frame is just a throwaway line, there's too much focus on it, too long of a pause too important of a moment.
And that's not even getting into the drink color, I know it is the color of Kris's dark world outfit but here is the thing, things can have multiple meanings and one meaning doesn't invalidate the other. If it were the only evidence then I would dismiss it too, but in conjunction with the line and just everything else every video on the topic of Ralsei's gender will point out.
At a certain point, it just becomes Occam's razor.
And somehow we've returned to the days of years past, gazing back afixed a past we forgot to see those we called fools were seers in disguise as we look with new eyes.
And ourselves see that...
Ralsei is a girl.
I'm so sorry, tricycle, or whatever your channel name was.
My first impression from all this information was the opposite, that Ralsei was a trans guy. Flowery is kind of the twink Ralsei wants to be, charming and suave, which is why he's infuriating, and the secret boss is a projection of his princess alter ego. Flowery calling him "Princess" to me read as teasing by misgendering and also outing him to his friends as a trans guy. He's doing the destiny fate thing as required but being a prince instead of a princess to not stray too far from the rules he holds so dear, because he's a lil soft boi, even when he just wants to go ape shit instead.
I could also see him being transfem though, and Flowery teasing him by outing him to his friends in similar fashion. It would track better with Flowery being essentially "Nice" even if he comes across as mocking to Ralsei, who doesn't want to be outed and/or misgendered and doesn't want this dark-world-adventure-journey to morph into one about his journey of self discovery. He's too shy and not ready for that. He never wanted to be the princess on center stage, whether because he's transmasc anti-princess prince or because he's a shy transfem who isn't ready to wear a dress and be the princess in a dramatic unveil and doesn't want to encourage that kind of adventure to "grow" from this dark world.
I didn't necessarily buy that Flowery is fully "Nice" especially if he's overtly outing Ralsei to his friends here. Maybe that's part of the point though. He's either like "I do what I want and you could bloom and be yourself for once here, Ralsei. Let's do it!" Or he's like "Come on, you're really just a girl aren't you? I'll out you to your friends and either emotionally devastate you so you can't fight me, or you'll discover that your friends support you no matter what and maybe you'll be a little more comfortable with yourself. Win-win." The first fits more with the "nice" projection of Flowery and the second is slightly more sinister and malicious but also kind in a tough love kind of way.
I love the tension of that though, and the fact that we don't need to know the exact details of Ralsei's gender journey (he's shy, okay) in order to get the way Flowery is picking on him for his shyness and resistance to being the center of the narrative arc as well as his gender weirdness he definitely has going on somehow. I also love that the tension allows for so much head-cannon and debate and everyone who's ever been a little shy and not wanting to be the center of attention while figuring out their gender can relate.
And to those wishing to Raise Occam’s Razor, after this line of dialogue… all ingame text starts referring to Ralsei as “they/them.” Both diageticlally— in dialogue, but also the game’s UI. It doesn’t get more “simplest answer” than that — Ralsei’s tenuous connection to either gender, and the freeness with which they switch between gendered presentations (and horse? lol) and the they/them pronouns suggest they’re neither boy nor girl.
Bonus: Ralsei appears to have, a tenuous relationship with physical form. Ralsei can turn into a horse. When ralsei is injured, there is No Body Left. Which does suggest a degree of, for example, fluidity. When ralsei is injured and there’s no body left… ralsei is JUST CLOTHES. So I imagine there’s going to be a very interesting relationships with the things that are fixed in a way you are not.
It may well be that Ralsei is a girl or has in fact has already transitioned and chosen to be a boy who still enjoys trappings of feminity, and that’s how it ends up! And if/when that is the case, I will be delighted! But I do think it’s very uncharitable and unkind to other queerfolk (especially to not binary people, who have been disregarded fully from the conversation) to say that there is “only one interpretation.” We do not know yet for sure, and there’s strong evidence to point to more than just a single possibility.
I think this supports my "Ralsei is a tree" hypothesis as well.
I actually love the liminality of Ralsei's gender so I think foreclosing on possibilities nowkinda spoils something in the narrative for me. It takes away Ralsei's own choice and agency to decide what gender they must be. It skips past Ralsei's journey to make a nice satisfying end instead of sitting in the point of tension this period represents.
I’d be happy if Ralsei were a tree. Or all the trees. One giant root system beneath hometown.
Can anyone explain wtf is going on here especially a Korean speaker
someone on reddit explained 😭
That is one of the most astronomical fuck up translations I have ever seen.
Remember! When companies lay off all their staff because AI is cheaper, this sort of shit is what you can leverage for a better contract when they are inevitably forced to hire everyone back :)
@sunspotpony when the AI translator is a fan of the grass mud horse?
It's my cat's birthday (anniversary of me getting him) so I told him the story of his life while petting him real good
Highlights include:
For your first two years (when you were small) you lived in a foster home with people who raised you into a very polite young man. Two is like you plus me, that's what two is.
Some people adopted you before me and they called you Timmy (which is a stupid name) and they returned your ass almost immediately because you were so annoying at that age.
Like think about how annoying you are right now at seven years old, but way worse.
I'm better than them though, I don't call you Timmy and I wore earplugs to bed for three years because you love to scream at bedtime. Earplugs are like when I roll over and go back to sleep even when you are yelling so so so loud.
I got you at a time in my life when I was really sick (being sick is like when I'm up late because I'm throwing up and you are a very handsome good boy who sits with me) and they had to put me asleep for a procedure. A procedure is like what happened to you when they put you asleep and took your balls away.
Now you've lived with me for five years. Five is like the number of toe beans on one of your feet. When I clip your nails five is when we're halfway done. But we're hopefully not even halfway done with how long we get to be together. I'm gonna have to figure out new ways to help you count.
Actually I've decided this is a poem
