I'm kinda new to les mis I've only listened to it for a few months and it wasn't until 2 weeks ago I looked at fandom content. But I've been reading a ton of Enjoltaire fanfics (I need to put the fanfiction down) with a common trope of Enjolras losing his patience with Grantaire and snapping at him for being a drunk or cynical or just existing in general. And it usually ends with Grantaire just leaving like a kicked dog and such since I've learned he's got awful self worth whether that's canon or fanon.

But if anyone hasn't already ( I haven't read ALL the fanfics because dear lord, there's A LOT) you should write it with a twist where Grantaire has had it with being ridiculed by Enjolras so he interrupts, and shouts at him mid way and Enjolras is taken aback by it while Grantaire FULLY goes off at him, because it would be interesting to see him be put in his place, wink wink.

I hope I don't sound goofy for suggesting this if it is an idea people wrote about a million times, I wouldn't be shocked, but then again Grantaire gets written to be someone who worships enjolras and would take his own life if enjolras demanded it, if thats not too dark to say, so I do doubt peopl would think he'd ridicule him back. I'm so scared to post this idk why I've never posted to this fanbase before.

Yeah I’d say Grantaire’s sense of self worth in canon is basically nonexistent. I need to read the brick again but I believe there was one scene where he gets drunk then just starts crying because he realizes Enjolras doesn’t like him.

Also, I recommend this for your next Enjoltaire fic if you’re into long fics: World Ain’t Ready. It’s so good. I need to finish reading it 😭✌️

Thanks for welcoming me to the fandom chat, it probably shouldn't be but hearing Grantaire gets drunk and cries over Enjolras sounds so fucking funny to me. The fic you recommended isn't depressing is it? I wouldn't be surpised if it is bc it's les mis but so many just write about Enjolras getting brutalised by the national guards and it's just so concerning.

This isn't a brag post bc who else would be listening to Martin Guerre (a seriously dead musical that hasn't seen the stage in YEARS, buried 6 feet deep) for me to brag to. I just want to start posting again after my long absence. I am shocked that 'could we start again please' wasn't first because I had a big phase with having that song on repeat everyday. (I'm also shocked that 'The killing' is first.)

I think about this moment so much, I know the photo is not the best quality but you can see this guy is SMILING while he's on his KNEES, arms restrained and held at KNIFEPOINT. This can only mean 3 things.

1, Matt Rawle broke character

2, Martin doesn't take him seriously, acting cocky.

Lastly

3, he enjoys being restrained and having a knife held over his throat by another man

Martin does seem like the type of guy to enjoy dangerous situations a little too much, this is the same guy that ran from his village and wife to go to war and die in his male friend's arms. Not implying anything btw. Its definitely either the second or third option.

Just made the worst thing known to man because I was bored in college and I saw a comic thing like this and it gave me an idea. Its supposed to be Guillaume and Martin and definitely what really happened during 'Where's the child' or what should have happened I guess.

I LUV MY WIFE, I LUV MY WIFE, I LUV MY WIFEZ I LUV HER SM. Anyway I was too scared to use acrylics and ruin the drawing so I did it digitally✌️. Here's some sketches because I NEED to stress how much practice it took be to draw her hair until it resembled the hairstyle of the character and looked how I wanted it to look.

There's so MANY more awful attempts but these are just examples but I was worth it cus I'm content with the last style I got to.

Another factor for why I want them to be together is becuase I HATE unrequited love so much, it seriously affects me so bad and makes me empathise with the character which I did with Guillaume. Only if they don't decide to physically hurt the person for rejecting them or were toxic beforehand but I understand that him beating up Martin is sort of a red flag and this may not be true to the intentions of the character but I believe he did it because he was angry and upset that he lost a woman he loved so deeply to someone who DIDN'T even love her. I don't really think he gave a shit about Martin not wanting to knock her up bc why would he want that to happen. But I'm not saying that Bertrande owes him anything and she shouldnt feel guilt or regret for rejecting him because she was a married woman at the time and she valued her vows as a wife so I'm not sure why Guillaume thought that she'd accept him.

Dude...the hyperfixation(if that's the proper term for it) is SOOO BAD and SOO STRONG I seriously think I need to distance myself from it for a while but I CAN'T. It's taken over me and I fear I'll NEVER be the same again.

I CANT TAKE THIS ANYMORE

FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS IVE BEEN SO DAMN OBSESSED W MARTIN GUERRE AND IVE KEPT IT TO MYSELF CUS I'M SORT OF EMBARRASSED TO LIKE A MUSICAL THAT ALMOST NO ONE HAS HEARD OF UNLESS THEY WERE AROUND WHEN IT WAS RELEVANT(I'M SO SORRY THIS MUSICAL DOES DESERVE MORE IF IT WASN'T SUCH A DISASTER AT FIRST) AS WELL AS OTHER REASONS BUT THATS NOT THE POINT.

Its strange that I find it hard to confess this to a fanbase that doesn't really exist aside from posts that were made a YEARS ago but I really want Bertrande and Guillaume to be together.

BUT HERE'S THE THING, at the time I only really listened to the original cast album for Jérôme Pradon ofccc so I was already rooting for his character. I knew he was already controversial with the song, 'Where's the child' (and that whole weird sexual thing with humiliating Martin) and making the village turn against each other and killing Arnaud and all that stuff. I did watch some clips from the documentary but not the full thing, I really couldn't because this stuff makes me tweak so bad (and bc I picture Bertrande and Guillaume to be together) but I decided to watch the whole documentary to get it out the way and only now I find out that Guillaume is MORE OF AN ASSHOLE than I thought. This guy just made it worse for himself by beating up Martin while pushing Bertrande away THEN making some threatening gesture to her after she rejects him. BUT you do see, for a split second, the look of anguish on his face so I have the idea that he suppresses his heartbreak and sorrow and thats why he's so bitter.

then circling her like a predator (which is one of the worst things a man can do, it's so fucking creepy) when he finally got the arrangement to marry her. (Atleast he gave her a little kiss on the forehead I guess and nothing thats seriously non consensual)

This just makes it so worse for me since I had high hopes that Guillaume wouldn't be a predatory character and that he really does feel love for Bertrande not power, I think what hes trying to do there is getting back at her for rejecting him or getting his way in general. I just really want to ignore this stuff, before then I've imagined so much scenarios of Guillaume reflecting on his actions and acknowledging that he's ruined his chance with Bertrande so he's really apologetic to her and cares about her feelings (instead of being so damn cocky and smug for finally getting to marry her THATS NOT HOW YOUR SUPPOSED TO DO IT) especially since its brought up during most of the parts Guillaume sings throughout the play.

But after this its not as if I can suddenly stop thinking about wanting them to be together, I've been obsessing with it so much until I knew how arrogant he thinks he is.

I'm honestly just going to ignore it and write fanfiction of how I view Guillaume because deep down I know this guy is just insecure and heartbroken over Bertrande and he chooses to deal with it in the worst way possible. However, I'm not going to erase all the bad things Guillaume does )but I'm not going to really include Arnaud at all) and I'm not going to erase how Bertrande hates him and her unwillingness to be with him but write it so that Guillaume is apologetic and she might have a change of heart towards him. I dont know, I think about this sooo much but Im never able to imagine Bertrande reciprocating his feelings because she is a really headstrong character. Either way it's not like anyone will disagree, I know for a FACT there's people out there who ship WAY WAY worse than this. Also for the fic or scenario I exclude the idea of Guillaume being the aggressive one, and replace it with what happens in the 1999 version where he tells on Martin for not doing his manly duty which leads to him getting whipped ritualistically since Its the priests that do the violence not Guillaume so it makes him less of an antagonist, even tho he did the fibbing.
