What are your favorite Wolf Children headcanons?
Well aside from the previous list, the standout one being that both kids eventually come to reconnect with their other halves later in life, there's a couple more I've thought of since then.
Hana was admired by many young men in the village for her looks and kind nature. A few of them even worked up the courage to ask her out, but she politely declined every time. She never considered remarrying because it would mean exposing her kids' secret, and even after they left home, Hana just can't see herself dating anyone since she's pretty comfortable being independent.
Yuki's best subject in school is biology and she eventually does regain her love of exploring nature and finding little oddities like snake skins, bones, and weirdly shaped rocks. I've headcannoned her as a wildlife photographer before but I could also see her becoming a biologist or maybe even a science teacher since she's also good with kids.
Ame took over protecting Hana's crops from wild boars after Yuki started going to school. It's part of the reason why he was mad at her for not wanting to turn into a wolf anymore because he saw it as shirking her responsibilities to help with their family's livelihood.
Souhei has a particularly good sense of smell that's only surpassed by Yuki and Ame's. He jokes that maybe he's got a secret wolf ancestor somewhere in his family tree.
The family's house is the same one where the wolfman grew up. Hana actually saw his name carved into the pole she used to mark her kids' growth. Ame was filled with quiet pride ever time he reached or surpassed his dad's old heights.
Ame's Sensei is some sort of kitsune or forest spirit. Ame himself thought it was strange that a regular fox would go out of its way to help a wolf, especially since foxes are solitary by nature. He doesn't seem to be able to transform, but he's got some spiritual connection with the mountain and was alive when it was populated by other wolf people.
While not as strong as Ame, Yuki is still much stronger than other kids her age. It's mostly comes in handy for helping Hana lifting bags of soil and firewood. One time she saw a freshman getting bullied in the hall on her way to class and Yuki almost crushed the bully's wrist when she yanked them away. Another time, Ame was injured in a similar accident that killed his Sensei and Yuki had to lift up the log he was trapped under, then strip off a slab of bark with her claws for a makeshift gurney to carry Ame home on.
As soon as Hana gets a somewhat decent router set up in her house, she starts taking online classes. After so many years spent raising her kids and farming, she decided that now was as good a time as any to go back to school.
Ame has his own flock of ravens that follows him around for scraps. At first he regarded them as a nuisance, but he's since grown accustomed to their presence. They enjoy tossing sticks at him in a teasing fashion and will hop on his back while he sleeps. They also recognize Hana as someone trustworthy and visit her when Ame can't, bringing her gifts of bottlecaps, coins, acorns, seeds, and various little doo-dads.
Yuki keeps her ear to the ground for stories about werewolf sightings and lurks in a couple of werewolf forums. She doesn't know how much truth a lot of them hold, but a part of her is hoping that she and Ame really aren't alone in the world.
