“no one and nothing is worth shrinking for.”
- indigo williams
“for something so significant, it seems difficult to compartmentalise. i will rise above the noise. i’ll ignore the applause, and keep my eyes on the stage. confidence is such a healthy word in a smart man’s vocabulary. keep your eyes on me like your future happiness depended on it. i’m not going to stutter, i’m not going to trip over my words - i am something significant. you should know that by now. so look upon me, ye mighty and despair. i’m a fucking hurricane disguised as a human. i will be better. and i will not chase your goddamn validation.”
- adam t.
Philippe Tanneur, Shipwreck (detail), 1850, oil on canvas, Museum of Fine Arts, Brest, France.
I get jealous really easily but not like an angry vengeful jealous more like a really sad lonely jealous because everybody likes everybody more than they like me and I really really don’t blame them.
when someone loves you - really loves you - treat them gently. text your best friend back when you can. tell your mother you noticed her haircut and that she was right about that recipe. tell your grandfather that the boats in his bottles are the best things you’ve ever seen. be good to the people who are good to you. it’s the least you can do.
“happiness is a compilation of minute fractions from our daily experiences. a kiss, a smile, a heartfelt compliment in the disguise of a playful raillery, and the countless other infinitesimals of pleasurable thought and genial feeling.” - samuel taylor coleridge
“i’m a moonless charcoal. a sour lover. hidden teeth beneath the velvet. i’m here and your eyes lucky. i’m here and your future lucky. ha. god told me to tell you i’m pretty. ha. my skin midas-touch the buildings i walk by. ha. every day i’m alive the weather report say: gold.” - angel nafis, gravity
“do i contradict myself? very well, then, i contradict myself; i am large — i contain multitudes.” - walt whitman, leaves of grass
“imperfections are attractive when their owners are happy with them.” - augusten burroughs, this is how: surviving what you think you can’t
“i know my fate. one day my name will be associated with the memory of something tremendous - a crisis without equal on earth, the most profound collision of conscience, a decision that was conjured up against everything that had been believed, demanded, hallowed so far. i am no man; i am dynamite.” - friedrich nietzsche
“it’s all about not getting your own way. that’s what we try to instill each other in ourselves with, you know? how to become less encumbered so you can be of service to this fantastic medium that we get a chance of doing. there’s people throughout time who have become notorious and i get to be one of them. to say it got in the way would be to say that what i was expressing didn’t have validity for the suffering that i chose to put myself through. if it’s all for nothing, then it’s a tragedy. and if you put it down and move on, then it’s a way to demonstrate that that’s just something that occurs, and there’s really really really nothing that anybody can’t survive. as long as they survive.” - robert downey jr.
“how glad i am that you exist.” - vita sackville-west
“damaged people are dangerous. they know they can survive.” - louis malle
“half gods are worshipped in wine and flowers. reals gods require blood.” - zora neale hurston, their eyes were watching god
“if i cannot bend heaven, i will raise hell.” - vergil, aeneid vii.312
“to hell with luck. i’ll bring the luck with me.” - ernest hemingway
