Hello I am trying to get into linocut and i have never been able to figure this out. Howwww are people scanning and uploading work? Your uploads are so so clean (and i love your work!) but when i take a photo it definitely does not give the same result.
Would love any tips you can give :)
Hi and thank you for the compliment! ☺️ I can’t always scan my prints right away as I sometimes use oil-based ink (which takes longer to dry). So I usually resort to taking pictures from my phone. I then edit the picture by cropping it, then putting a black and white filter on it and turning the contrast way up. I then email it to myself where I download the image on my iPad and import it into Procreate where I make a few more adjustments (sometimes fixing minor mistakes like unwanted ink splotches, etc). If I wanna change the ink colour, I utilize the trick where I separate the black ink from the white background and then add colour to make a rainbow roll effect! I then overlay a paper texture over it to enhance that traditional art feel!
The best option is probably to be patient and wait until ink dries / when you have access to a scanner, but that’s just how I do it. If you scan your work, you can utilize similar adjustments on your computer. I usually just use the default Preview app on my Mac which comes with basic editing tools (so I don’t need to spend a penny on fancy image editing software!) The paper texture is just a stylistic choice and your prints can look great without it!
And thank you once again! 😁
