6 years ago, I started a blog.
Oh, I’d been on tumblr for years before that, finding likeminded people who loved the same things I did, but just over six years ago I messaged one such friend and said, “I want to make a network for the Christian themes in Narnia.” And so six years ago today — January 1st — I made this little blog to host it.
Between the two of us, we collected a few more members: five more, to be exact. We became the Seven Friends of Narnia, and, more importantly, we became TNOA.
I didn’t know what I was creating when I started this blog. I didn’t know that these six random girls who just happened to love Narnia and Jesus would become what they are to me. I didn’t know that I’d be sitting here six years later reminiscing on our most recent trip to see each other and daydreaming about our next one.
See, there was a time shortly after the seven of us first started chatting as a group where one of our members added a “prayer requests” channel to our groupchat, and my heart’s response was, “Even if this blog goes absolutely nowhere, it’s already done what it needs to.” Because in that moment I realized that God had thrown Christian friends into my life: people to pray with and for: people I desperately needed.
I’ve celebrated with these girls. I’ve mourned with them. I’ve stayed up late laughing with them.
And, you know, I hope this blog does do more. I hope it does shine a light on the beautiful truths hidden within The Chronicles of Narnia, and I hope it reminds our followers of the powers of hope and faith and love, and I hope that at least for one person we might be a glimmer of light in the darkness. I do. I still like to believe TNOA can do good that is bigger than and outside of ourselves.
But if it doesn’t, then I still believe that one thing: it has done what it needs to. It gave me my best friends. God has worked through it already.
All of that to say the following to both my fellow members and all our followers who have watched us grow and loved the things we sometimes sporadically take time to create: I love you, and happy new year. I pray you all feel God’s presence abundantly this next year, and that you walk forward with all the courage you might need.
