Jamil character Analysis

VICTIM COMPLEX

Jamil has a major victim complex as he fails to take control of his fate. As noted by Leona in book 6, he looks down upon others while being in this state of delusion of "i'm better than them but ill never get a chance to shine." Jamil finds it easier to blame it on other people than to acknowledge that he himself is at fault (a very human thing)

A lot of the issues in his life is self inflicted. Kalim is helpless because he refuses to let Kalim do things on his own and treats him like an overgrown child. (As seen in Glorious masquerade)

He is a control freak. He is can not let people do things on his own if he does not approve of it.

THE PERSONA? THE PERSONALITY?

Jamil pretends to be a polite quiet yet reliable boy (as seen in book 2, start of 4). He holds his tongue (sometimes) yet knows how to flash a smile and when to talk.

But he is not suave he is a massive chud. Remember the fireworks? Yea. He says whoopeeee unironically. He is a chud. He is a teenage boy, even if he doesnt really know how to act his age. He gets giddy over food and has playful streaks when he feels somewhat safe enough to. Yet he is deeply nihilistic about his future, it wouldnt surprise me if he never ends up with someone because he doesnt want to doom them.

He cares for family. Before he overblots he states "I do not care what happens to me or my family anymore." In JP he brings up how he has to please the Asims or else his family could be in danger. He nags at his sister like a mother hen, but he clearly still cares for her via his actions.

CODEPENDENCY

Jamil and Kalim are codependent. One would argue textbook definition. Jamil needs Kalim so his family isnt doomed, so he feels useful and smart and has someone to feel superior over.

Kalim needs Jamil to do all of the tasks that his family refuses to teach him. Kalim doesnt know how to do basic tasks because no one, not even Jamil, taught him.

They are stuck in this cycle of Jamil further enabling Kalim's learned helplessness while Kalim puts more and more of his wellbeing onto Jamil. Its to the point where Kalim doesnt even feel safe to eat food if Jamil isnt right there. (Beadbrawl)

Estelle’s impressions of the house wardens +Jamil (up to book 6) LESSGOOOOOO

Riddle: “Riddle’s a bit intense, and scary at times, but i actually like spending time with him. He recommends great books from the library, invites me to tea often, and shares the treats Trey makes him with me and Grimie! I admire how hard he’s working to be a better housewarden, and friend, and I can’t help but cheer him on and offer advice whenever I can. Riddle is also kind enough to tutor me along with Ace and Deuce, which I will Forever be grateful for! Without him, I don’t think I’d ever be able to catch up with the rest of my class!”

Leona: “despite the fact he acts indifferent, and rude, and reserved, I value his advice and opinions a lot. He’s much wiser than he wants you to believe, and very honest too. He’s called me out on my own hypocrisy many times, and while frustrating in the moment, it truly did help me correct those behaviors and pushed me to become a better person.”

Azul: “once a schemer, always a schemer, I guess. Though, I have to admit that his persistence is admirable. I never thought I’d ever talk to him after his Overblot incident, but he bribes me with free meals and drinks to sing at the monstro lounge, and how can I pass up on a deal like that?? It’s not the worst arrangement in the world, all things considered. I love singing and performing anyway, and people actually leave tips sometimes! I guess it goes to show that I really am a celebrity in the works, eh?~”

Kalim: “oh— I LOVE his parties!! He lets me pick the music sometimes and he’s a GREAT dance partner! He’s such a riot at the music club too! We write such amazing songs together, and hearing him play the drums gets me pumped every time! He truly is an amazing friend, and I’m forever grateful to have met him!”

Vil: “I think Vil is the person I look up to the most in NRC. He’s everything I dreamed of being when I was small. He was the first person I opened up to about my past, and all of my fears and concerns with pursuing a music career and possibly loosing myself to it all. He’s been very supportive of me, and I’m very thankful for all his advice and encouragement. It’s also thanks to him that I’ve been able to keep a solid curly hair routine. I will never be able to repay him for that.”

Idia: “Idia? Well… he’s a dork, and a bit of an asshole. But then again, who isn’t an asshole at NRC? I’m still upset about the whole Styx thing, but at least he’s making an effort to apologize and make up for everything he’s done. He’s surprisingly kind of funny when he isn’t mumbling and bumbling around like a coward. He recommends some really good manga and Anime too. I just wish he’d stop mumbling so much and actually speak his mind. Maybe that way, I’d actually respect him more and get along with him better”

Malleus: “Horton is kind, and respectful, if not a little cryptic. I’d like to get to know him more, but I can never seem to find him during the day. I think we could have some rather meaningful conversations if he didn’t just come and go whenever he pleases. I don’t get why people are scared of him. He’s not threatening, or openly antagonistic. So what if he’s strong, or has some political influence? He’s a student here just like everyone else.”

Jamil: “Jamil? Well uh, what can I say? He’s patient, caring, kind, funny, extremely talented, but also hardworking, handsome… gah!! Im sorry, I don’t mean to gush! Jamil’s just very admirable in my eyes. Yes, I was mad at him for a while after winter break, but… We’ve talked, he apologized, and has been finding ways to make it up to me since then. Weither it be making me and Grimie lunch, helping me with my studies, taking walks around campus whenever we’re free… ever since the Styx incident, I think its safe to say that he cares for me just as much as I care for him. I was hoping to not make a big deal out of it… but, i did kiss him in front of everyone when we found our friends so, it might be a bit too late for that, aha…”

…book 6 got me fucked up. It was so long and at time annoying as hell to get through… but Grim… Grimie… my babeh… I cried real life tears whenever he cried… i started out with this game being his #1 hater… the character interactions were great… Idia and Ortho’d story broke mah heart…. I hate rook less now, but he’s still at the bottom of my list… and now I’m absolutely terrified for book 7. Also I now know the exact moment where Estelle and Jamil have their first kiss so yippe—

Fr tho— great writing… took too daym long. Almost lost interest but I got through the tedious part today and experienced the true heartbreak. Again, I’m not excited for book 7 as I have already been told multiple times that the pacing there is even WORSE… pray for my lil adhd ass plsss

Sometimes I gaslight myself into believing I’m neurotypical, but then I spend a while in the blazing heat getting sweaty and dirty and then all i wanna do is rip off everything from my skin, including my hair, and then drown myself in an ice bath before i sit in from of a fan or AC unit for an hour.

Anyway, God Bless the lineages of those whose ancestors made plumbing, cold showers, AC, and fans. I really don’t think I’d make it this far without these inventions

Fairy Ortho didn't come home, but I finally got my first-ever Scarabia SSR (after three years of playing this game). Of COURSE it'd be Kalim, too (ever the extrovert).

Jamil stans, how do ya'll do it? That snake of a man canonically plays hard-to-get (rip my keys and gems from all of the times I've tried pulling for his SSR banners).

You devote the entire game to obsessing over him and then painfully skip all banners that don’t have his name attached to it and save up for when he DOES show and spend all your gems on him in an act of sacrifice regardless on if you get him on the 1st or 20th 10-pull.
