Just in case anybody here didn’t know, I LOVE BIRDS. I love birds more than anything on the planet, almost. All birds. Even the mean ones, like geese or seagulls. Or pigeons, which get a bad rap for no reason. 

I volunteer once a week at a wildlife rehab place specializing in birds. I’ve been spending the last few weeks working in Orphan Care, as it is Baby Season. We get lots of people who bring in baby birdies they’ve found. We take them in and patch them up if they’re hurt - I’m convinced our med team are actually a bunch of wizards. Then we feed them until they can feed themselves, put them out in the flight cages until they can fly, and then let ‘em go! I love every minute of it, and I think I’ll dedicate this blog more to birds and my various exploits volunteering there.

I’m so fucking tired, someone just told me institutionalized racism doesn’t exsist. Yes it does actually and it’s ludicrous to think that a country that rose to independance and power using slavery wouldn’t be institutionally structured against the groups it oppressed. They asked me for PROOF as if we aren’t surrounded by it daily. Racial profiling, prisons being essentially slave labor, and african americans being the most incarcerated group? The protests that were, oh I don’t know, all over the news? What about neighborhood segregation and how that contributes to an endless cycle of poverty in black communities? If your parents cannot afford for you to go to college because they themselves never got to go then how will you get a good enough job to pay for your own kids? Like listen, i’m white and I recognize how good my lot in life is but that only makes me want the same for others as I constantly check myself to become better and work against the bias our society ingrains in us all. However when other people ignore or deny the exsistence of our current state it invalidates the problem. The fight for equality and equity on all fronts is an uphill battle but in recent decades it has been getting better for oppressed groups at a rapid rate. So much so that people are claiming for instance that african americans and queer people are actually MORE privileged than the average citizen when that isn’t the truth at all. What is truly being said in those moments is “Be quiet, don’t you have enough yet?” No, we don’t actually. So no matter how “annoying” I seem I will never quiet down until the fight for change is complete. I know I will have to scream my whole life because I will not live to see it’s completion but we have to keep moving forward nonethless.

‘I Can’t Breathe’: Video shows white policeman laying on top of crying black girl

“A video posted yesterday evening on Instagram shows a white police officer laying on top of a crying Black girl as she vomits and says, "I can't breathe," through labored breaths. Someone contacted the Kaufman County, Texas sheriff's department to report that 18-year-old Nekia Trigg was jumping in front of cars in traffic. Trigg is a resident of Forney, Texas. When the seven-minute video begins, an officer, identified as Kaufman County Deputy Conner Martin, is laying on top of Trigg as women around them scream.”

I haven't seen anyone talk about this yet on here and I'm not sure what else to do. The Instagram post was taken down but the video has spread to Twitter. Officers arrested her mother for asking to loosen her daughter's handcuffs, and Martin was reportedly not wearing his bodycam properly as well.

Please PLEASE fucking share. This monster has used his badge to abuse this girl and borderline sexually assault her and was only placed on leave.
