Back Again || Open
The only thing that would have made Joanna feel as if she was truly coming to BATS again for the first time was if she was hungover and was trying to get a light for her cigarette. But now, she was clean of all drugs save the ones that her therapist had given her, and she was not as angry or unwilling to be here this time. It was tough knowing that she had to come here, to be social and interact with her own kind to keep at least some shred of sanity in her. But it beat the crippling depression that had been haunting her in New Orleans. Though she wasn’t going to admit this to anyone but the voices in her head, she was actually glad to be back.
She drug her things out beside her in the large suit case and threw it near the fire pit. Ah yes, the summer camp. She remembered this place. Much better than being locked up in the castle. Warmer, but New Orleans had trained her to be ready for the heat and humidity. She hopped up on her suitcase and sat on it, lifting up her sunglasses to look down at her phone. She wondered what cabin she’d be in this year, not really caring, as she browsed through her phone, trying to remember her cabin.

Been Away Too Long || Alec & Jo
Alec’s attention was drawn from the tiny cat and sharply back up to Jo as her tone changed. Eyebrows raised slightly he watched her quietly, hand stilling on the demanding kitten as he listened to her. Confrontation wasn’t something Alec had ever been very good at, not unless it involved an actual physical fight, but he found himself relieved at the obvious change in her voice. If she wanted to get this out, perhaps with less punching this time, then maybe it would mean less awkward future interactions. Or more. It was kind of a toss up at this point.
Jo’s speech started strong, but quickly derailed in a choppy fashion that reminded Alec far too much of his own attempts at breaching sensitive subjects and he looked back at the kitten to distract himself. The cat seemed unconcerned with the uncomfortableness of the two almost-humans, bumping its head repeatedly against Alec’s fist as he eventually unfurled it and stroked behind its tiny black ears. As Jo’s speech came to a hesitant end, Alec looked back up at her, his expression carefully blank as he considered her for a few silent seconds.
"Well, I guess that depends." He shifted in his seat, straightening his back as if that would help him find the words easier. "I don’t-" He stopped as soon as he started, wincing as he heard his own words in his head and stopped himself from saying them. Feelings were the worst really. "It doesn’t matter," he shook his head. "The point is, I’ve been away for three months, I’m tired, and I don’t feel like starting this up again." He looked back at her, eyes hard in a glare. "But if I find out you’re doing the same shit you were, I will kick your ass, again, and I will kick you off the combat team.”
Anger was good. If he had been apathetic toward her, it would have hurt far more. But anger -- or any emotion, really -- meant that somewhere, Alec cared. Or at least that’s what Jo thought. In fact, the anger didn’t hurt her at all. His anger made her relax, her stance easing and shoulders dropping, her own anger, which was none existent anyway, became so far removed she actually felt at ease. She hoped it showed how she really really really wasn’t looking for a fight. Especially about this.
“You really don’t need to worry about that,” she said calmly, quietly. “I don’t want to start anything either. And ever since our fight I haven’t so much as raised Bane to kill a fly. I’ve still been training, but...” She sighed, looking down at the kitten purring happily in Alec’s lap. And before she knew it, she was just... running at the mouth and talking way too much getting it all off her chest.
“Honestly... I think I was due for an ass kicking anyway. Looking back, I think I was out of control. I sort of regret my actions, even. Being like that... it doesn’t do anyone a lick of good, including me.” Her hand came out and she rubbed her cat behind the ears, getting a very loud purr in return. “And if I ever get that way again, I hope you do kick my ass again. I mean, I think I even knew it the first time around. I didn’t fight back much, didn’t have it in me. No excuses for it all, of course. I’m just glad that there’s someone here who’s bigger and badder than me and isn’t afraid to remind me of that.”
