Haruhi raised an eyebrow, she recognized that look on his face, she’d seen it before. Still, it had been the first time that she’d actually seen him so….Down. Usually by now he’d be playfully harassing her or making Tamaki lose his mind.
“I know that look, Kaoru….I used to look like that before I came here. What’s really going on?”
“If…I say anything….then we’ll be different.” Him and Hikaru. That space between them would only multiply. He already felt like he was fumbling to keep up with it. He wouldn’t be able to do anything if it was visible to everyone.
If it was visible to Hikaru…everything would be over.
“I don’t…I don’t want….” His eyes widened and a brief madness flashed in them, before he shook his head and buried his face in his palm.
“I’m not asking you to. But you can talk to me, I won’t say anything unless I have your permission. I know better than to just let you keep destroying yourself like this.”
Reaching up to place a soft hand upon his shoulder, she looked at him with a gentle sigh. As much as she would have loved to smack some sense into him in the past, he really seemed to be going through something right now.
“If it weren’t for you, Hikaru, Tamaki and the others, I probably wouldn’t still be here. So let me repay the favor.”

Haruhi raised an eyebrow, she recognized that look on his face, she’d seen it before. Still, it had been the first time that she’d actually seen him so….Down. Usually by now he’d be playfully harassing her or making Tamaki lose his mind.
“I know that look, Kaoru….I used to look like that before I came here. What’s really going on?”
Leave it to her to be so perceptive. He hated that about her. His initial instinct was to curl in on himself, try to hide his face so he turned away.
He was quiet for several moments. He shouldn’t say anything. She would just go tell Hikaru and then he would never be left alone about it, but..
“….I feel empty…but everything hurts.” The strangest combination he’d ever come across.
“....I know how that feels. It’s not an easy thing to go through, but bottling everything up will only make things worse. Trust me, I found that one out the hard way.”
She didn’t try to ask what had caused it, after all sometimes it was hard to know. Still, she would do her best to try and help him feel a bit better, if possible.
“Do you want to talk about it? Do you need a hug or anything?”

“Fuck.....” Haruhi ran a hand over her face in irritation, club activities were supposed to start in just a few minutes and yet there she was, trying to figure out how in the hell she was going to be able to deal with the current situation she was in.
Dropping her head to rest upon the table for a moment, she groaned softly and sighed, trying her best to find a way to shake the stress off before the guests of the club would arrive for the day.

“Don’t worry about it, just come and talk to me next time so this kind of misunderstanding doesn’t happen, yeah? Hikaru already knew, and I’m surprised he never told you about any of this. If you want, you could always come with us next time, it’s actually pretty fun.”
She wasn’t upset with him, in fact quite the opposite, giving him a gentle nudge with her shoulder to show some small amount of affection. There were no hard feelings involved.
“Besides, Hikaru’s always telling me how badly he wants to be romantically involved with you, not just in the club’s usual acting scene…Maybe that’s a conversation the two of you need to talk about at some point.”
It made him feel a little bummed out that Hikaru hadn’t bothered to tell him any of this, but…then she said–
He froze. He lost his breath.
“Really?” He breathed out quietly, tentatively, as if it would break him if it turned out to be a joke. “…I thought…he liked…”
“I’m being completely serious, he’s been ranting about it to me for months. Honey, you two are so obviously in love the whole club’s been making bets on whether or not you’re truly together, and not just in your acting during club hours.”
Haruhi smiled warmly, looking at him with an honest expression. She knew the twins well enough to be open and honest with them, and she had no issue speaking with Kaoru openly since it seemed they both shared similar feelings that neither twin had realized.
“If you two decide to start dating, you’ll have my full support, no questions asked.”
“I had a feeling that was the issue.” Haruhi offered a smile and chuckled softly.
After giving a soft hum and thinking about the best way to word it, she quickly figured out an answer.
“I’ll make this very clear from the start. I do enjoy spending time with your brother, and with you too, but I have no interest at all in dating him. I don’t actually find any of the men in the Host Club attractive to begin with. Now this was probably my fault for not coming out to everyone sooner, but I’m one hundred percent gay. I like girls, so even though your brother is a sweetheart and I enjoy his company, you don’t have to worry about me taking him away from you. I view all of you here at the club as family, kind of like the brothers I never had.”
Shifting slightly, she pulled out her phone and pulled up a few pictures of what she and Hikaru had actually been up to. Many of them were of Hikaru trying to cook or learning how to fix a sink, which she found rather amusing, and she handed said phone to Kaoru to show him the proof of it all.
“Your brother loves you, Kaoru. He asked me pretty early on to help him learn how he could do more in terms of being able to support you and take care of you when it comes time that you’re on your own. No offence, but he’s pretty useless in the kitchen….He’s learning pretty quickly though. I’m pretty good at fending for myself and fixing things, and he took interest in it. He’s actually pretty handy with a wrench once he gets the hang of it.”
She was gay? He hadn’t known that. That would certainly make Tamaki upset, but Kaoru…he didn’t particularly care right now. All he felt…was relief.
Complete and utter relief.
“…” He looked down. Hearing those things, seeing the photos, he felt like a horrible person. “Sorry.” He shifted his eyes away. He didn’t know how to handle all of this…

“I’m very glad you requested me today. It’s very nice to meet you, may I ask your name?” Haruhi greeted warmly, offering a smile as she spoke. It was always nice to meet someone new, and she was more than happy to talk to anyone, no matter who they were.
“Oh trust me, this school is always full of weird things going on. If you want though, I’d be happy to show you where the computer lab is. They kinda have it tucked away so it can be kind of hard to find if you don’t know where you’re going.”
Haruhi gave a soft chuckle, luckily enough she was completely used to the weird happenings around the school and as a result knew how to navigate her way through no matter what all was going on.
“I don’t buy that for a second. Come with me, we’re going for a walk and you and I are going to have a conversation about this. I have a feeling this has to do with Hikaru and I hanging out together, and if that’s the case then this talk needs to happen sooner rather than later.”
Haruhi wasn’t having it, she knew that jealous look all too well and it was about time they had a serious conversation about this. She knew all too well how dependent the twins were upon one another and how much they loved each other, however she also knew how it looked for Hikaru to be spending all of his free time with her, even after school a few times.
Turning, she motioned for him to follow.
“Come on, let’s go.”
Irritation welled up inside him and he was once again tempted to snap at her. But he didn’t. He held it in and followed her, hands in his pockets and trying not to glare. He did not want to have this conversation. Not at all.
He knew he was being stupid. He should be happy about Hikaru and Haruhi spending time together…he should be happy…
He should be happy…
