the Odd.inary Band

Largely funk, jazz and pop influenced, Odd.inary is a project band that aims to bring back the soulful sounds of the organ paired with brushes and percussion. The front lady is Singapore's singing sensation Tay Kewei's sister, Tay Kexin, who is dubbed as the petite jazz powerhouse. Like them on their facebook "the odd.inary band". Odd.inary is Tay Kexin on vocals/ukulele James Yeo on keys/bass Shawn Kok on drums/guitar

Behind the Scenes of our Album Cover Shoot!

Hey guys, 

This is kexin and my first ever tumblr blog since i'm back from my 1.5 mths Europe Trip! What else to kick start with but a behind the scenes coverage of our album shoot?

Many of you might have seen our album cover already on our facebook page, cdbaby etc. (if not, there's more reasons why you should read till the end of this blog entry!)

i know right, it's awesome. And who could have done it any better than my dearest friend Ms Chloe Cheng?! 

Chloe is a great photographer i met years ago and by some stroke of luck we got into contact after a long period of absence from each others' lives. Just in time for the shoot! Check out her awesome works @ http://www.facebook.com/chloechengphotography !

The shoot took place at a designer studio owned by Chloe's friend. A comfy white sofa, red rugs on the floor, just the correct feel for our photo direction. 

It was also my first time seeing James' and Shawn's pretty faces caked in layers of makeup hahaha. and i swear Shawn's hair has never been more voluminous. it was so high and thick it could trap a colony of bees inside hahha (joking turbo no offence lol!) This was us feeling claustrophobic. It might not seem so but we were sitting a little too close for comfort on that tiny sofa. And all we could hear was Chloe shouting "Look Natural!! Now LAUGH!" 

Posing au naturel was never easy for boys and James had to resort to fake huge laughter with each Chloe-command. Now that seriously cracked me up!

the story of busy girl

30th June 2011 "you're busy busy, busy busy...i'm missing you because..."

this song happened because of fatherhood. this stage has soooo much change i started thinking and embracing things i never did...like family (what a dud!), values and heritage. started dedicating myself to different things. the more i did it the more they change (wth!)...schedule, habits, temperament, mentality, paradigm... you know it's like when you're pregnant you realise all the ladies around you are pregnant. like when you finally own a benz suddenly every other car in the carpark is a benz. same colour somemore.

so. story right.

it's a sad one, unfortunately.

all happened in bukit timah. half of you reading this might know that bt timah is an atas area (the residency of the rich and educated) and so the schema of these families are unconventional. there i watched three pairs of mother-daughters disappoint each other. 1. a young mother reprimanding her girl for not understanding the math solution 2. a middle aged mother trying profusely to connect with her teenage daughter 3. a learned corporate lady hurrying her elderly mother to finish her dinner but of course, the title is also for the sake of paraphrasing and pun. heh. enjoy the song! 29th June 2011 Busy Girl From Bukit Timah is something you don't hear at all today: AN ORIGINAL JAZZ TUNE. Although it started out as paraphrasing a familiar bossa tune, after taking the song apart and putting in our own influences and original content, there is almost - apart from the few notes - nothing left of the original. click on audio icon to audition the song.
