Instead of going on a sushi date, Scully and Mulder went on a staycation together to a smart house they booked through AirBnB. When they arrive there’s no human host to be found. They are equally amazed and confused by all the technology. Mulder does something to piss off the AI running the house (because of course he does). It attacks them and they have to be quiet and work together to get out. You could still play with all the same themes, and Scully’s vibrator could still be included - and perhaps is how they get out.
