Post Alice in Borderland season 3 ramble under the cut about Niragi and something that made me really, really mad
Okay, strap up for a really long ramble because I saw somethings that made me really, really mad: people complaining about Niragi getting a “happy ending” in season 3
1st of all this is not a: Niragi did nothing wrong ramble, of course he did. But I need people to understand something that lot of time gets ignored: The Borderlands and the Real World are two separate places.
We need to understand that, every character we meet except for Arisu (and maybe Usagi) are subjected to the Borderlands. We know their Borderlands versions what is a way different versions of the one from real world. Last Boss is the clearest example but let me explain it as I see it okay? Bear with me.
Starting with The Borderlands it’s important taking into account that irl moral codes and laws, as obvious as it seems, don’t apply in there. The Borderlands are free real state to do whatever you want. Moral code doesn’t exist, because there’s no legal or social consequences for your actions. People may die, but again, this is not a real world.
Allow me to give you a clear example: vampires.
When we consume vampire media, do we get mad at a vampire for being evil? For biting someone? No. Because vampires work with vampire morale, not human one. You can’t apply human rules to something that is not human.
Same thing happens in the Borderlands.
You can’t apply real world rules in there.
What brings me to my next points: are Niragi actions correct? Of course no.
When you look it through REAL WORLD LENSES.
When you use Borderlands one? It’s """""""valid"""""""
Not because it’s a good action, but because there’s no existent moral code in there, you can do whatever you want because you’re subjected to no laws or society rules.
Okay so, what I’m trying to say?
That Borderlands! Niragi is just someone who took advantage of this moral code free world. Of course he did wrong, of course he was terrible and most of his actions are inexcusable, but they make NARRATIVE SENSE WITHIN THE BORDERLANDS.
Let me point someone: no one says “Aguni didn’t deserve a happy ending”, when, actually, Aguni is the first character referred to use his range in the Beach to abuse people.
“Our boss wants the girl”, was said ABOUT AGUNI. They tried to get Usagi for him to use, but people always ignores that right? Because it never got “fulfilled”
Again: this is not about excusing Niragi’s actions or saying who is a worse person, I’m trying to explain how we don’t really know Niragi.
Remember that when speaking about Real World Niragi all we have is: his past and the hospital scene. In the second one he admits to be an asshole, but as far as we know he was just that: a rude idiot.
AIB is not scared about showing as people being terrible, if Real World Niragi was as bad as Borderlands Niragi, we would see it.
We would get a second flashback about Niragi being the way he is in the Borderlands in real life. But that doesn’t happen, you know why?
Because Niragi is smart. He knows and is conscious of the laws, moral codes and society rules that come with living in the real world. Intrusive thoughts? Sure. I’m so sure he had lots of them, and lots of terrible ones btw.
But well, he didn’t execute them.
Now: throw him into a world where laws, moral codes and society rules are nonexistent? Those intrusive thoughts can become actions, because THE WORLD ALLOWS IT.
This is what happens in the Borderlands.
And, to this Borderlads lack of rules you need to add a lack of hierarchy. Everyone starts from the bottom.
And there you have Niragi, someone who was a lot of pentup rage, intrusive thoughts and always has been at the bottom step of society. Give him a world that is not subtined to moral codes or rules, ground zero to climb up the ladder of social rankings and what do you get? Borderlands Niragi.
I don't know if I'm making any sense in here, but I just wanted to say that "Niragi doesn't deserve a happy ending" is a stupid thing to say about IN REAL WORLD NIRAGI. Because he is not the same guy we know and I think that's the whole point.
